            ±12A Movie Review

Who  would  have  thought  millions of
years  after extinction that dinosaurs
would be the craze of 1993?

That's   because   ±12JURASSIC  PARK×--the
latest   movie   by   director  ±13Steven
Spielberg×--has brought an entirely new
concept to the phrase "true to life".

The  story:   An idea for a theme park
becomes reality for a gentleman.  How,
you  ask?   A  fossilized mosquito was
found,  and  from its blood scientists
were  able to extract the DNA from the
terrible   lizards  of  Earth's  past.
This  blood  is used to create various
types  of  dinosaurs,  including T.Rex
and       the      now-popular-on-Sega
Velociraptor.

Now   everyone  is  assured  that  the
dinosaurs  are  safe (which is why one
of the keepers gets eaten by a 'raptor
early  in  the  movie).  Everything is
under control...sort of.

Enter  a  guy  named  Nedry  who  is a
capitalist  to the highest degree.  He
is offered a large sum of money to get
the embryos of several dinosaurs.  The
trick:    the   embryos   are  heavily
protected   by   top   security.    No
problem,  since  he  works at the Park
anyway.
Through  a  clever  diversion  (and an
approaching storm) he manages to elude
the  security  traps  and  get what he
needs.   But  what  he didn't know was
that  the  storm  had managed to knock
out  power  to  the 10,000 volt fences
surrounding the exhibits.

The dinosaurs are roaming freely!

If  you  feel  I am giving too much of
the   story  away,  don't  worry,  I'm
nearly finished.


This   movie  is  a  rollercoaster  of
suspense,  more so than THE SILENCE OF
THE  LAMBS,  and  it gets to the point
where  there is so much intensity that
the ending seems like an ±13anticlimax×.
The scenes are very ±12realistic×-looking,
with  graphics  better than TERMINATOR
2.    I   even   hear   an  ±13Amiga×  was
responsible  for  some  of the special
effects...  :-)

±12As  far as taking children to see this
movie,  I would advise against it.  My
fiancee  disagrees  with me; she feels
that  if  a child knows that dinosaurs
are not real that he/she would have no
problem  with  the movie.  My argument
stems  mainly  from the scene with the
T.Rex and some children trapped inside
a  car.   It  is  VERY  realistic...of
course the sounds have a great deal to
do with it.× 

I  WOULD advise seeing this movie on a
large   screen  (like  at  a  drive-in
movie).  It captures the images of the
dinosaurs   being   lifelike  so  much
better than on a home TV.

On   a   "scale"  (get  it?   lizards?
scale?) of 1 to 10 I give it a 12.  Go
see    it    now,   because   as   the
advertisements here in the States say,
it  won't  be  on home video this year
(1993). ç
