|A4000 Speedup Hack!



                 **** PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER ****  

This is a MODULE for AIBB (Amiga Intuition Based Benchmarks) version 6.1
generated by my Amiga 4000/030 with a slight modification...  8^)

The  Amiga A4000 has a daughter board on which sits the CPU.  The CPU is
clocked  independantly  from  the rest of the mother board (custom chips
still  run  slow!).   The  crystal  oscillators  on the mother board are
socketed  (in "through-the-board" single pin sockets) making changing of
the  CPU  oscillator very easy.  The CPU oscillator runs at 50Mhz and is
halved  to  feed  the  CPU  which  runs  at  25Mhz.  I CHANGED THE 50Mhz
OSCILLATOR  FOR  A  64Mhz  ONE - making my A4000 run at 32Mhz (AIBB sees
this as 32Mhz, SYSInfo sees it as 33Mhz, not a lot in it tho').

Impressive  huh;  don't  beleive  me  though, look at the benchmarks and
compare them with your A4000.

                    ---------- HOW TO USE ----------

Start  up  AIBB and select Load Module Prefs from the 'General' menu.  -
Click  on  FR  beside  the  location for the module, the first slot will
replace  the  A600-NF  results,  the  second  replaces  A1200-NF etc.  -
Select,  using  the  file  requester,  the module to load.  [You need to
select  A4K.32Mhz.PAL.UK] - Select Save Configuration from the 'General'
menu.  - Select Quit from the 'General' menu, and restart AIBB.

Now any tests you perform on your machine can be compared to mine.

NOTE:

1.Testing was carried out by booting with no startup-sequence, switching
on  the  caches  with  SETCPU,  loading  AIBB  from  the  CLI,  and with
MULTI-TASKING DISABLED (from within AIBB), TASK PRIORITY set to +15.  2.
My  amiga  is  PAL (50Hz) this may produce different results to yours if
you have an NTSC machine.

THIS  MODIFICATION  WAS CARRIED OUT AT MY RISK, I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT
YOU  DO  THE  SAME  THING TO YOUR AMIGA, OR THAT IF YOU DID DECIDE TO DO
THIS THAT IT WOULD WORK FOR YOU.

THE SUPPLIED CPU IS DESIGNED AND TESTED AT 25MHZ, THIS IS THE SPEED THAT
IT SHOULD BE RUN AT.  SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE SPEED OF THE CLOCK SUPPLYING
THE  CPU,  YOU  COULD RENDER YOUR MACHINE INOPPERATIVE BY FRYING THE CPU
(FASTER CLOCK = MORE HEAT = FRIED CPU!).

AT THE VERY LEAST THE OPERATING LIFE OF THE CPU IS LIKELY TO BE REDUCED.

WATCH OUT FOR THE FPU, YOU'LL NEED ONE THAT OPERATES AT 33MHZ TO BE SAFE
(AS SAFE AS CAN BE EXPECTED ANYWAY!)

IN SHORT:- DON'T TRY THIS IF YOU YOU CAN NOT AFFORD HEFTY REPAIR BILLS!
           IT'S YOUR FAULT IF YOU BLOW UP YOUR MACHINE, NOT MINE.
