Last  year  I  started to run my BBS called the Graveyard BBS.  I started
with  400  files.  Today I now have over 4000 so expansion was needed and
quickly!

My  first  thought  was  to  get a backup drive and thought I'd get a Zip
drive, thats ok I thought, but I can't use the Zip with my Zappo CD-Rom.

Answer: Sell the CD-Romto my Co-Sysop, Spectre.

That done, I looked around for a tower.  Some of them need to rehouse the
Amiga  in  the  tower  as well as the drive etc...  Naaa I thought just a
storage base will do for me.

So  I  rang  HiQ  who  I  knew have been doing towers for tha Amiga for a
while.  Seeing as I already had the Squirril inteface it only cost me 200
quid  this  included a 200w power supply, all the necessary SCSi cabling,
and a two speed CD-Rom (Needed to replace me old Zappo one).  And a cable
to replace your old power supply 'brick' as the 200w power suplly can run
you Amiga as well.  It has space for two 3.5 inch drives and two 5.5 inch
drives.

First  imressions - ITS MASSIVE AND WEIGHS A TON!  A bloody great lump of
metal is sitting on my desk whirlring away under its power fan!!  Its the
normal  biege  colour  or  off  white of the Amiga range.  It has the LED
lights  on  its  left  hand  side of the case and the access door for the
CD-Rom opens from left to right.

At  the  back are the SCSI ports and the connections for the power supply
and CD-Rom audio connections.

The  three  LED  lights are marked POWER, TURBO, and HDD.  The HDD can be
linked to a harddrive so you can tell when its accessed.

There are three buttons on the front top panel of the tower marked, RESET
which  will  reset  the  Amiga,  a TURBO button that as far as I can tell
changes  the LED light on the front to another number, Mine are 16 and 20
for  some  reason.   And  the  last is the POWER button.  (The on and off
swith)

I have and old hard drive from the GVP drive that my old Amiga 500+ used.
I've  never  fitted  a  drive before let alone take apart an old one!  So
with  screw  driver  in hand I un did the three screws at the back of the
tower  and slide off the outer case.  Looking inside everythig was a mass
of  wires  but  it  was  easy  to pick out the SCSI connections and power
wires.   The  mounting  brackets didn't fit my hard drive properly so its
now stuck down tih blue-tack and sellotape.

With  the case and lid back on, I swithed on and run the SCSI software to
recognise the disk.  It worked first time!  Nice one!

One  thing  I  didn't like though was that the SCSI ports were mounted at
the  top of the case and the squirrel wasnt long enough for my desk.  The
SCSI  ports  are  anchored  to the case by screwed down clips so I had to
reopen  the  case and pull the SCSI cable forward a bit to give me enough
slack  so that my Amiga can now be put at the front of my desk and not at
the back.

With  out  the CD-Rom this unit costs only 99 quid so for the powersuplly
and  the SCSI capacity it worth its money.  I'm now on the look out for a
cheap 1.2gig drive!
