|2-Pooter News Gathered By A `Budd(a)'ing News Suck COMPAQ has teamed up with Matsushita and 3M to develop a 120Mb 3.5" floppy disk. They claim the current 1.44Mb industry standard can be improved by upto 80 times the capacity!! The new drive will be compatable with all existing 3.5" floppy disk storage sizes. The cost of such a drive and the disks required to store the huge amount of data on will be set at an attractive price hopefully enabling a vast amount of computer users to obtain the new drive and hopefully make it the NEW standard. It'll be available later this year and should be also adapted to work on the Amiga probably by Power Computing as they've done the other HD disk drives in the past. ---------------------------------- The SEGA Saturn `Super-Console' has had it's release date brought forward from September '95 to July 8th 1995!!! At release it will be bundled with the "Virtual Fighter" game. It's price will be just under £400 although may change. To go with the release three games will be available for immediate purchase, they will look something like these - Daytona £49 International Victory Gold £44 Clockwork Knight £39 Notice how all those games retail for under £50; what a good thing if your a sad console-type buyer. ---------------------------------- Panasonic are to release a new drive which will enable everyday Joe-Bloggs type people to write to CD's !!! The drive however is a mix of a quad speed CD-ROM and an optical read/write drive. The special Gold `WORM' CD's will be able to have data written onto them like a standard disk drive and then read as many times as you want. These Gold CD's can be picked up for as little as £7 if bought in bulk and usually sell for about £15. The advent of this new product means that the CD's honeymoon from piracy is over and new methods will have to be developed. You see it is already common to see thousands of pounds worth of software packed on to single CD's. These have been selling for around £60. But remember if you see any then you know who to call... the fat bloke J.L. The price for such a kewl drive? Well expect a tag of about £550 when it's release late this summer.
