[SK2K][SC1S][SF5S] SELECTION OF GROUPS [SF3S] (31.05.95) [SK1S][SC0S][SC0S][SF2S] The whole scene agrees that actually there is too many polish groups. It's true. Some time ago I didn't bother but actually I don't like it (I sometimes change my opinions about various topics very quickly). At the beginning I suggest to check adverts section in the worst (in my opinion) polish paper magazine about Amiga - "C&A". Every smart guy notices adverts of many groups. Of course they're looking for super coders, productive graphicians and so on but contents of adverts isn't important here. The most important are groups themselves. This is short extract from this magazine: [SK3S]S-Large, Masacra Design, Commodore Maniacs, Children Contact, 3 Little Piggs[SK1K] etc. Isn't it irritating? Everybody tries to enter the scene, even this one who only bought Amos and tasted it a bit! And when they create their own group they do nothing but THEY HAVE THEIR OWN GROUP! Sometimes such maniacs manage to catch a guy who is quite good and productive and he also has nothing to do in this group because of lazyness of others. After some time this guy of course changes group. But it's pity that such people often waste time in unproductive groups. Time to tell you about my proposition: we should look through all groups and select only these worth being on our beloved scene. Of course we should look at all released productions of the group and things like for example fame. If a group consists of 5 super coders, the same number of cool graphicians and musicians and except swapping they do nothing then we should strike this group out of the scene. Besides we can create a kind of "[SK2K]black list[SK1S]" where this group should be mentioned. Maybe this would push its members to harder work or joining other, more productive groups. Of course we can't forget that some of those amateurs won't give up thinking that "the scene is for everybody and everybody should have their chance". But they have already had their chance, haven't they? And new and beginning group should ask more known groups about membership. Group which was struck out shouldn't be mentioned in any magazine, pack, greetings and so on. Editors of various disk magazines should pay attention at "black list" and don't let any group from this list be mentioned in their disk magazine. Such activity should work properly against all amateurs/beginners/lamers. Of course cooperation of the whole scene is needed, which should abide by rules of this "game" - so boycott these amateur groups everywhere (also in productions). Selection of groups can bring many advantages. Active, talented guys will appear who in the shadow of their lame-groups weren't noticed so far. Besides our Polish scene will be clearer not only for us but also for foreigners. How can guys from abroad estimate Polish scene if we have several hundred groups [SK3S](The Knight: He exaggerates as usual...)[SK1S]? And it there were only 30 groups everything would be clear and easy to analize. Of course guys from cancelled groups wouldn't be thrown from the scene away. They will just become independents and the number of independents will grow but it doesn't matter. These guys could publish their adverts in disk magazines under one condition - they'll be independent. In other case they will join "[SK2K]black list[SK1S]" and they will be finished. In the end rules of selection if this will be ever done. We shouldn't tolerate groups which released for instance one intro or three issues of any disk magazine. Such groups should be struck out or joined to better groups as divisions. Only the best, the strongest, the most productive and the most famous should remain. And even if any group which is productive by mistake won't pass selection its members will easy find good group to join. Summing up - only those groups should left which are on proper quality level and which could represent us on the world scene. Who cares if a group released 8 issues of disk magazine if this zine is only in Polish? In this case the only solution is to strike this group out and move editors of this magazine to another group (beside the main editor can be independent). Of course this article can be put between fairy tales [SK3S](The Knight: Yeah, you're right!)[SK1S] because such idea never will be used and if so - it'll be done chaotically and with fights as usually among us. Before such selection we would have to decide how to do it and who should take part in selection. If there will be such selection of group the scene will become stronger and nicer. I don't know if there is flood of groups in other countries like Germany or Denmark but here, in Poland, it becomes quite serious problem, which grows every day. This selection should be made as soon as possible. Don't think that I'm conceited - I'm not against those groups I mentioned above. My group also belongs to this kind of groups - we released nothing and we are very lazy. But it doesn't mean that we don't have talented members. We have but we aren't able to use them properly. But who cares - we can quickly become independents and quickly forget name [SK2K]Inquisition[SK1S]. Only by this we can reach something and only by this we can raise level of quality of the scene.
