[SC1S][SK2S][SF5S] THEY WROTE ABOUT US! [SC0S][SF3S][SK1S] The title sounds a bit strange but what can we do - this is the first review of GEDAN. Well, in PMM #6 (PMM = Poczytaj Mi Mamo; this is one of Polish magazines) a review of GEDAN #1 appeared. It was written by Hudinsky. Review like review - in a cruel way shows all disadvantages and avariciously gives praises. The same situation is in this case. I decided to publish this review because by the way I will explain some things connected with GEDAN. So now the review follows: [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] A new disk magazine run by OBSESSION appeared on the scene. It's called GEDANA, it's in English and (as people who make GEDAN say) it's an original magazine or rather different one comparing to those which appear nowadays. So what is under this "difference"? Well, the subject of GEDAN is only one - the scene. We can see that OBSSESSION is consequent in looking for its own style. First POLISH NEWSWEEK, now.... It's good - individuality is a rare commodity. Unfortunately I don't agree with motivation of authors. I can't see anything wrong in reading "something more". The Knight is wrong saying that writing only about the scene will decrease a number of readers. The scene is the part of each disk agazine which is "an eye in head" of editors' team. The more articles about the scene the better. [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] The Knight: Sure, that the most important for every editor of disk magazine is section about the scene. But who is in each such editors' team? Who makes disk magazines? In 90% there are people from the scene or connected with the scene. This section is the most interesting for them because it talks about subjects which are well known for them, often it talks about those people and the effects of their work. However I still think that a magazine like GEDAN won't have so many readers like let's say SILESIA. Think how many people who completly aren't connected with the scene read disk magazines. In mostly cases they just give up when they see an article about the scene or read it only superficially, because they can't find in the scene articles anything interesting. But they are interested in reading articles about various subjects like humour, news, stories, about new soft and hardware. I can remember that when I wasn't interested in the scene I didn't like to read about it. We know that by publishing only the scene articles we made our life more difficult but nowadays there is so many magazines that we just have to create something new to catch attention. But let's read more: [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] We can find about 40 articles in the firsrt issue of GEDAN. Many of them are published just to fill this issue, like in many other mags. Several interviews of quite good quality but interviewed people wasn't enough interesting to catch my attention. It would be better to publish an interview with any well known person from the scene. There is also small Polish Corner and charts. Ooops, here I must stop for a moment! Poland became second Denmark! We are everywhere - hurrah! Guys, let's say briefly: Your charts are not objective - you look at the whole sceny by prism of Pole. The most strange are charts of disk magazines. I don't say that our (Polish) mags are worse, often our design is much, much better than in foreign mags but when I can see on the same charts RAW and our ZASMASHKA which appeared and disappeared like a comet, I feel that there is something wrong. I don't know how something with local range can be more popular than magazine in English (so with much wider range). Summing up - if you want to make charts in this way you have to get charts from people from whole Europe (recently about 90-95% of voters were Polish). [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] The Knight: Ooops, so we got some bad words about our charts. I only glad that GEDAN isn't the first magazine which was criticized about its charts. The public secret is the fact that part of vote- sheets was a bit old. That was primo. Secundo - in fact Poland looked very strongly in those charts. It's because we just didn't get any reply from abroad. And Polish voters always were patriots. Anyway there is nothing to worry about - since this issue there are only polish charts. If we'll find a proper guy the world charts will be run too. What else Hudinsky writes: [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] Design is on good level of quality. Nice graphics, music is O.K - fits to the magazine and doesn't interrupt while reading. But code destroys all. GEDAN is the best example how to badly make a good idea. Panele works badly, articles appear and disappear like ghosts... The only advantage of code is that it never crashes (Tested on A500 1MB Chip, A500 0.5 Chip + 0.5 Fast, A1200). [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] The Knight: Music and graphic depends on everybody's taste. Somebody hates panels, other is delighted by them, somebody cries when he is hearing music, other makes it lauder. What everybody prefers... And the code? In fact - some bugs from issue 1 should be fixed. As the main editor I'm pushing on our coder (Kors). He says he's working on improving code and I hope he is REALLY doing it! [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] If editors will get interesting articles for the next issue, if several bugs in code will be fixed and (what is the most important) if they divide charts or get votes from the whole Europe (it will be much more interesting for foreigners and GEDAN if mostly for them) - under these conditions readers will get quite good disk magazine and what's more important - a magazine for everybody in the whole world. [SC1S][SK3S] * * * [SC0S][SK1S][SF0S] The Knight: Well, I think that GEDAN follows the proper way - charts are already divided (actually only Polish charts are available), bugs fixed (aren't they Kors?), and there is possibility to select English or Polish version of magazine. But GEDAN isn't created only for foreigners. It is just in English but our main aim is to promote Polish scene. We are waiting
