***** KWIKCOPY 2.5 ***** Brought to you by Phil!94 / LSD ------------------------------- Public Ðomain Released 29/07/94 ------------------------------- DESCRIPTION: ------------ Its another disk copier! But! The difference with Kwikcopy is that you're not bogged down with near-useless options and you dont have to mess about with loads of tedious mouse clicks on tiny boxes every time you just want to copy and check a disk! NEW STUFF IN V2.5: ------------------ 1. Find disk name. Click on the "GET NAME" box to show the name of the disk in the source drive. You'll be told that the name is invalid if the disk is non-dos/has errors etc. 2. Track Counter. Yes, for your entertainment (and very little else!) there is now a track meter which tells you where the heads are positioned and what side of the disk is being accessed. 3. Exit to back to DOS. By popular demand, you can now exit the program and return to whatever was happening before. No mean feat, considering the amount of hardware registers etc that have been fiddled with behind the O/S's back! Remember that you will almost definately have swapped disks whilst the program was in action so dont expect the Amiga to immediately recognize the disks remaining in the drives after you exit the program! (Unless you havent changed em). Also remember that Amiga Dos gets horribly confused if you have 2 disks inserted that have the same name. Best bet is to eject any disks that werent origianlly in the drives before you exit the program. 4. The positioning of the Track Range Markers has been improved as it was a bit hit and miss in 2.1.. All you do is click LMB on the number over/ under the red/green arrows and the pointer will disappear. The marker will now move with the mouse. Just click again to drop the marker in its new position. 5. The "Check Disk System Type" and "Recopy Errors" boxes have been amalgamated into one box. This looks neater and makes more sense. 6. Terminate any operation by pressing the ESCAPE key. 7. Format improvements: You now have access to the full character set when giving the name of a disk. You're allowed the correct maximum number of characters (30) and you can abort the FORMAT option during the name entry by pressing ESCAPE. Disks are automatically installed with WB 3's bootblock. 8. Removed a bug that sometimes meant that whole disks were read as having checksum (6) or NSAG (3) errors. Even though they were perfect working dos disks. These disks were mainly from cover mags and other commercial sources.. (It was caused by the gap being shorter that I expected it ever to be.) 9. This version is even shorter in file length than Kwikcopy 2.1! Only 9K! 10.New coat of paint and slightly different sounds! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >>>> FULL INSTRUCTIONS <<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** TASK BOXES *** ------------------ Select: COPY ---- To copy a disk from the source drive to the destination drive (indicated in the boxes to the right). FORMAT: ------- To format a disk in the destination drive (indicated to the right). You'll be asked for a name - type it and press return to start. Note: If you select one of the above options with the check system set at "off", the green block marks on the track guage just imply that the track has been 'done' and NOT that it is error free. TEST: ----- To check a disk in the destination drive (indicated right) for errors. NAME: ----- To return the name of the disk in the source drive (indicated left). DEFAULT ------- Returns all settings to the way they were when the program was first loaded. STOP: ----- To Terminate any disk operation. EXIT: ----- To return to the Amiga Operating system. *** SETTINGS BOXES *** ---------------------- Click: SOURCE ------ To change between df0 and df1 as the source drive (the opposite is the destination) DEST ---- To change between df0 and df1 as the destination drive (the opposite is the source) SIDES ----- To select between UPPER,LOWER and BOTH sides to include in disk operations. CHECK ----- To select the automatic disk checking facility. The options are OFF, DURING and AFTER TASK. If you select "DURING" the destination disk will be checked for errors (verified) before moving on to the next track - an error on the destination disk will show up as a BLUE digit. The figure after the word "DURING" shows the number of attempts the program will make to copy that track. *** The Track Guage *** ----------------------- Shows the progress of any disk operation. A green block shows that a track has been 'done' / has no errors if a check system is being used (including the CHECK DISK option). Red/Blue Error numbers have the following meanings: 2 - No sync time out. 3 - No sync after gap. 4 - Header checksum error. 5 - Header error. 6 - Data checksum error. TRACK RANGE: ------------ To change the track at which a disk operation starts/ends, click on the number above/below the red/green arrows, you'll now be able to move that marker with the mouse. Just click again to drop the arrow its new postion. The pointer will re-appear. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ POTTED KWIKCOPY HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.0 - Bog basic copier.. Basic options, basic GUI.. Basically bugged! 1.1 - 24Hrs later - A bug fix, crap head positioning. 1.2 - Another bug Fix. 1.3 - Yet Another bug Fix. 1.4 - You guessed it..
