PPrefs - The Preferable Preferences Program written by Jonathon Potter <(C) 1989> Documents written by Kevin Fairhurst PPrefs is a replacement for the standard preferences on the Workbench disk. It is over three timaes as small as the 1.3 preferences, and it can do almost everything the original preferences can do (and more besides). The only feature that is missing in PPrefs is TIME/DATE gadget. This is not all that necessary, and by missing out on this, there is a lot more disk space to be filled. 8^ป If you make any alterations in PPrefs, you will have to update the menus. This is done by double clicking on the BenchWork disk icon, and then double clicking on the Menu Refresh icon. THE GADGETS There are about six different screens altogether. These will be listed below, along with the gadgets in that screen, and what they do. MAIN SCREEN This is the screen you see after loading PPrefs Use - Accept the current preferences settings, but do NOT save them Cancel - Quit PPrefs using the old preferences Save - Accept the current preferences and save them Default Settings - Use the default preferences settings Last Saved - Load the last saved preferences from disk Colour - The four large squares are the colours in use. Move the R,G and B sliders to change each of these colours Reset Colours - Resets the colours to those in use before PPrefs was run Delay - The farther left the slider is, the shorter the time before keyboard repeat begins Speed - The farther right the slider, the faster keys repeat Text Size - Selects either 60 or 80 column text Interlace - Selects workbench interlace on or off (NB To use workbench interlace, click on the gadget once so it is highlighted. Save the preferences, then reset the computer) Mouse Speed - Selects the speed at which the mouse pointer moves Double Click - Selects the time needed between the two clicks of a double click. The further right the slider, the longer the time between the two clicks can be. Screen Position - By clicking on the square in the middle of the box, moving around the square will move the workbench screen about. Screen Width - The farther right the slider is, the wider the screen gets (only effective when preferences are saved and computer reset). Screen Height - The farther right the slider is, the higher the screen gets (only effective when preferences are saved and computer reset). Serial - Takes you to the SERIAL preferences screen Printer - Takes you to the PRINTER preferences screen Pointer - Takes you to the POINTER preferences screen SERIAL Baud Rate - Selects the serials port default baud rate Buffer Size - Selects the default buffer size for the serial port Parity - Selects the default parity of the serial prot Handshake - Selects the type of handshake to use Read Bits - Selects the number of read bits Write Bits - Selects the number of write bits Stop Bits - Selects the number of stop bits Use - Return to main menu, using the altered settings Cancel - Return to main menu, using the unaltered settings PRINTER Printer Type - Selects either parallel or serial printer Paper Type - Selects either fanfold or single sheet paper Pitch - Selects either pica, elite or fine pitch Left Margin - Selects size of left margin Right Margin - Selects size of right margin (No of characters from the leftmost side of the paper to start the right margin) Paper Size - Selects the size of paper to be used Quality - Selects either draft or NLQ Spacing - Selects either 6 or 8 lines per inch spacing Paper length - Selects the length of paper, in lines Select Printer - Selects which printer driver to use Custom Printer Name - If Custom is the selected printer driver, enter the name of the printer driver Graphic 1 - Takes you to the Graphic 1 window Graphic 2 - Takes you to the Graphic 2 window Use - Same as on SERIAL screen Cancel - Same as on SERIAL screen GRAPHIC 1 Threshold - Determines the threshold for black and white printing Aspect - Switches between horizontal and vertical printing Image - Switches between a positive and a negative image Shade - Selects black and white, grey scale or colour printing Use - Same as on SERIAL screen Cancel - Same as on SERIAL screen GRAPHIC 2 Smoothing - Toggles between smoothing of diaganol lines on and off. Mutually exclusive with Floyd Steinberg dithering Left Offset - Selects the horizontal offset for a printed picture in inches Density - Slider determines the graphic print density Colour Correction - Selects Red, Green and Blue colour correction on or off Center - Switches horizontal centering on and off Dithering - Selects which dithering to use Scaling - Toggles between fraction and interger scaling Limits - Selects type of printer limits Width Limit - Selects the width limit Height Limit - Selects the height limit Use - Same as on SERIAL screen Cancel - Same as on SERIAL screen POINTER Pointer Colour - Click on one of the three coloured squares to choose which colour to draw in. Use the R, G and B sliders to change the colours Reset Colour - Resets the colours to those originally in use Drawing - To draw in the current colour, click with the left mouse button inside the square containing the magnified image. Clicking with the right mouse button draws in the background colour Restore - Restores the pointer to its original settings Clear - Clears the pointer area Hot Spot - Selects the point of the pointer.
