  In the past period of time, there has
been   a   continuous   discussion   in 
diskmags and elsewhere, whether we need
all  those  diskmags floating around in
the scene,  and  now I'm so fed up with 
it,  that  I'm  going  to  write   even 
another  article about that topic.  But
this time it's not going to be a ' fuck
the lamer mags ' article,  this article
will  hopefully make you think a little
about things.
  First of all, the diskmags. Everybody
has surely heard all the talk about "we
only  need  Zine ", and " fuck all mags 
exept Zine ".  This  has  got  to stop. 
Compare the scene  today  with the real 
live  you live when you're not in front
of the machine (YES, there really is an
outside life!!! ),  when  you go into a 
store, there is papers, magazines a.s.o 
lying everywhere.  But do you read them
all?   NO! - the same thing is possible
to  do  in  the  scene,  just read your
favorites.
  Another thing that magazines are good
for in the scene,  is that you are able
to spread news around fast. If you lose
some  adresses  and don't know where to
get   them   again,  you  can  use  the
addsection in the mags.  Some mags even
have a corner for messages.  This could
might come in handy one day to YOU! You
can  also  use  the  mags to share some
ideas  with  other  people  like how to
fake stamps real good, how to keep some
sort of order in your diskboxes, how to
learn to code a.s.o.
   But notice...  this  is  only  scene 
related stuff,  and thats good, FOR THE
SCENE  RELATED  SECTION.  In  the  mags 
nowadays, there is coming more and more
articles  from  what  we call 'the life
away from the computer'.  I  think that
is  a  cool  thing. Imagine, you are so 
lucky  to  get  a  ticket  to the major 
concert event of the year, and you know
other  freaks  love  the music too, and 
perhaps   want   to   go   the  concert
themselves.  They  read their  mag some
day,  and  there  is  a report from the
concert.  There  could  be  pages about
sport in the mags, there could be pages
about politics in the mags. Actually it
is  only  your  imagination that puts a 
limit  to  what  you  can  write  about
( ofcourse it's pointless to write a 10
pages  article  in Zine about your trip 
to the supermarket!).
   I think  that right now,  the  scene
needs  a  really  good  swappermagazine
(add-mag) the size  of  Zine. OK, there
is the Addonic messagecenter, it's cool
but unfortunately for Addonic, not that
much people uses this opportunity  (OK,
25-30 guys!! ).   Imagine  a swappermag 
with  tips  on how  to fake everything.
   Another  thing  in  this  debate  is
whether we need the new mags popping up
in the scene. Well, look at these three
newcomers  -  R.A.W  from   Pure  Metal
Coders and New wave (N),  Deadlock from
Dimension X (UK),  and Free & Easy from
Paragon ( N).   These  mags   has  only 
released one or two issues so far,  but
look  at  them.  The  designs  are  all
really cool ( OK,  they look a bit like
Zine  some  of  them,  but what's wrong
about  that,  it's  a C.O.O.L. design!)
and the articles are good too.  This is
what it takes to make a mag  which will
gain  some  success  in  the scene, but
then again -  this is just my oppinion.
   As you  can  see  from this article,
I'm pretty  happy  about  the diskmags,
and I don't think that  there will ever
be  too  many  mags  in the scene. It's
always nice to read a magazine.  So  to
all  you  editors  out  there... you're
doing  a great job, don't listen to the
negative guys,  listen  to the positive
ones.
