What the 4F**K is this one about? by 2RokDaZone/INFECT1 3(slightly loosing his thin red line here)1 Have you ever looked upon titles inside a menu in various diskmags? Have you ever imagined what people like us, editors get through to catch your - oh, humble reader! - eyes? Sometimes it might turn out to be quite weird to find an name for the particular article. A name, fitting into 21 letters (or slightly more), whilst telling the content of the article perfectly. I must admit that nowadays, every diskmag is easy and fast to be read due to the excellent attitude towards titles. Just let us take an average diskmag and - no, not criticism from a R.A.W. co-editor again! - have a look on the way 2a reader treats the mag...1 First of all the editorial or tutorial or whatever we might call it. The first words, obligatory following after the titlepic, are clicked away after two seconds in which one decides if 2the color and the font1 of the mag are suitable. @IPpanicC Then some seconds of consideration about the music - which mostly is regarded at as 2daft1 and therefore most people soon get their amplifiers roar to create a fitting mood for the attraction of light entertaiment whilst reading (preferably any kind of metal or dancefloor). The first real highlight is yet to come; 3The menu!1 One starts to scroll through it without much regard to see how many articles are in there. If the number is 2lower than 100 = A+A+CTRL1 is the sure reaction (might this be a reason for the "Editorial + Credits" part of nowadys diskmags have the same amount of articles than the whole advertising-sections?). After the first overview, news ("Old and false!") and advertisements ("Lamers!") get overflown. Nothing special since now. Now over to the other, minor contents: The articles... The titles - as said before - are well chosen, since one knows from the first moment what will await one in there. To be more exact, one REALLY knows what will be in there... another essay about the normal undelightful topics. @IPlogofejC For the conclusion is mostly drawn in the title, however, there is no use to read through all of those 10 articles about parties, 8 articles about diskmags, 5 articles about charts, 3 articles about "lamers vs. elite" (getting boring, dudes, eh?), 2 articles about swappers and thirty articles about all those topics mixed up plus fuzzes about design, packs, etc. So, after no one really reads this kind of thing, what is left? 2Shortstories?1 Man alive! There is only one diskmag with highquality shortstories and poems and that's 3ABNORMALIA1 so forget about almost anything else. 2Musicreviews?1 Oh, dear! Who the heck is interested in the fact that someone really loves 3METALLICA1 and thinks that their latest record is best one ever? Same for videos... Reviews of sceneproductions are much better, but not as long as they are handled like the reviews mentioned above and those are standard, so another hope wiped off. Partyreports are only interesting for the 2organizers1 and some dudies who hope to find their name somewhere in there (since they've attended too) - a leech that of course isn't being fulfilled. 3Humour?1 Naaaw... So, what makes the reading of a diskmag enjoyable? When most articles are smashed and no one likes the news nor the adverts - what remains? How can mags get votes if no one reads them? I'm sure it's the 2titles1 that decide over a mags worth... 3nooot!1 The competition is growing, air at the top gets thinner. The top mags kill eachother, R.A.W. doesn't care at all (at the moment) and the smaller mags copy like hell. Hereby a warm thanks from me to the editors of 2THE JUNGLE1 who fill their issues by commenting most articles in R.A.W. - therefore stressing its position at the top. Now what are editors out to look for? Right. Sarcastic remarks about other writings and seldomly found pearls like the one of 2WOLFMAN/BALANCE1 in 3UPSTREAM#6.1 If I was the one to give away the 3SPANDIMERDA AWARDS1 of ABNORMALIA, Mr.WOLFMAN would get the one for the most overratingly early article, published in issue 6. I don't want to state that the article was bad or that his points were not right, but... 2a REVIEW ON 1993 published in a mag relased 30th JULY 1993?!?1 I refuse futher commentary.
