JE.Interview With MR. PET / SANITY? INTERVIEW WITH MR. PET/SANITY ɠby Friendly & Ace / Damian If everything would have gone normal, you could read the following lines a nice little interview with Mr.Pet of Sanity. BUT... Things did not go the same way like we wanted them to...The post seems to have eaten our interviews with some guys and due to this fact we had to make a kind of emergency interview. o we did and the last day before deadline we phoned up Mr.Pet who lives near to our city. Everything was okay and we recorded his voice on tape. But too bad...his voice was so silent on the tape that we did not manage it to save a complete interview on disk... We decided to cancel the interview. In the next issue there will be a complete and more professional interview with him. Hopefully the others will be delivered by the post in time for issue #5! To Peter 'Mr.Pet': Thanks a lot for making that strange interview! We love you!! end. JE8A.S.S. by Essence - Reviewy Invitation ʤšATENDILUVIAN SLOPPY SPECTACLE by ESSENCE ɠreviewed by BliTTeR ǠEssence has really choosen a monster of text as the title of their first trackmo (I have had to load it several times to figure out the correct name!), but luckily it`s called A.S.S. At the beginning you get to know a nice logo done by Groo & Rufferto and a big Vectorscroll. The next effect is certainly the weakest point in the whole demo! The A1200 gurus when it should come up and even when you turn off the CPU-caches and switch to the original chipset emulation, it doesn`t run correctly. It should be a vector consisting of many dots with three RGB balls as light sources. After this the whole demos runs correctly on the new AGA machines. A lightsourced vector with mapped vectors on the side witch also has other vectors mapped onto the sides is really fast, even on an A500! The next effects have to be a 180 lightfaces vector wobbling around and an ordinary pixel tunnel (just a little bit faster than the other). After an ice-starwars scroller you see some lightsourced circles twisting around and a glenz-cube with stars on the sides (this effect runs too fast on an advanced Amiga!). A text writer rotating around three axis, a cube of little pixel-rings and a very elastic greetings part are the end of this nice demo followed by a long scroller, mainly held in german language. The nice effects are everytime decorated by nice logos by Groo & Rufferto, the three parted music sounds a little bit passive, but nice; WOTW told me that he wasn`t very happy with it, but it sounds good. The first trackmo from Essence is certainly not bad and of a good quality, but a big minus for the on the A1200 not working part! Coding: Touchstone, Roman GFX: Groo & Rufferto Music: WOTW, Dascon Coding: 7.5/10 Design: 8.5/10 Grafix: 8.5/10 Sound: 8/10 Impression: 8/10 end. JE9Extension by Pygmy Projects - Reviewon ơ EXTENSION by PYGMY PROJECTS Ȥ ɠreviewed by BliTTeR ǠThis trackmo is the winner of the Assembly `93 and presents itself as a real hardcore-demo. The success of this trackmo is the fact that most of the effects are new and really cool and has really nothing in common with the new designer demos. It could have been programmed one, two or three years ago, you can`t detect it (I mean that there is no design at all, it`s totally smashing! Or like Chaos says: Design suxx!) Beside a little woman while loading there are no drawn logos or pictures in it at all! After loading you can watch a nice pixel tunnel like in many new demos. Then a big vector EXTENSION popus up and a vectorcube deforms it everytime it touches the big logo. After this you can watch a scrolling through a pixel valley and a very nice elastic vector in vector in vector in... and then a little transformation like seen in State of the Art pops up followed by the second part of this demo. You can see a town of skyscrapers moving around and additionally there is a morphing vector over it - really cool! Further you can enjoy some nice polygones with a shadow on another vector and the third part shows a cameraview over a city consisting of vectorcubes with pixels mapped onto the sides. The last part shows pixels falling on a rotating cube, which will be splitted up in different directions. Instead of a nerving scroller you can read some nice texts at the end. The music called "Cyberride" by Jester really fits the demo and is as amazing as his "My glamourous life" full of disco extasy. All in all I would say that this demo will certainly make its way into the upper half of the charts, because it`s in no situation boring and you can watch it several times, without loosing the fun. Congratulations, Pygmy! Code: Flame, Coconut GFX: Cenobit Music: Jester Code: 9/10 Design: 5/10 GFX: 0/10 Music: 9/10 Impression: 9/10 end. JE:Jesters Minimal Art Tape Review of the Minimal Art Tape by Jester of Sanity by Mindblast of Damian I have had good luck that I was able to get the last copy of this tape (Nr.105) on the Sanity conference in Hamburg. So lets start with some facts : The tape contains 7 Tracks called: * Minimal Intro * Infectious Ignorance * Kids Of Prosperity * Got To Be Grey * Against The Tide * Fatal * Minimal Art The most titles on this tape are pop styled and should remind you of some Petshop Boys songs. (especially the most vocals which sound very similar to the original Petshop Boys singer). The song structure is mostly very professional and contains many passages you will remember in a positive way. The variety of sound is very good because the atmosphere reaches from happy (Kids Of Prosperity) to very depressive (Against The Tide). The recording quality could have been a little bit better. In my opinion there are not enough trebles in the sound so you could not hear the hihats and crashes very brilliantly. But who cares.... The songs mostly have a good melody and groove and the text often fit perfectly to the tunes. Overall I think the tape is worth the money I payed for it. Get it! I think it is a positive development that the scene is able to produce creative things besides the productions on the Amiga. By the way ... I am waiting for Jesterday II!? Τend. JEGMotorola Private MOTOROLA PRIVATE ɠby BliTTeR THE MC68060 ǠThe MC68060 (better XC68060 - the MC follows 1994) is a full 32-bit processor with a superscalar, pipelined architecture. It has more than 2 million transitors, using a 0.5-micron, triple-layer metal, 3.3 volt process in a static design. Performance will be 3.5 times the 25MHz 68040, or about 46 Specmarks, according to Joe Circello, 68000 advanced microprocessor architect for Motorola. Separated in the 060 are instruction caches and data caches. Instruction fetch pipelines (with four-stage instruction processor, a physically-mapped 8Kbyte instruction cache with four-way self associative, a virtually mapped, 256-entry branch cache and a FIFO instruction buffer), and operand execution pipelines (with four-stage operand processor, a physically mapped 8Kbyte data cache with 4-way interleaving and a 4-entry, 32-bit write buffer). The floating point unit, which is implemented in the execution stage of the operand execution pipeline, is compatible with the 680040 FPU programming model. Floating point execution times range from 1-24 cycles. The 68060 superscalar dispatch algorithm can execute 50 to 60 percent of integer code instructions as pairs with existing compilers. The 68060 will come in 040-style packaging, with a similiar external bus. The first versions are sampled now, the series production will follow around beginning of 1994, and run at 50MHz and 66MHz. THE MOTOROLA RISC-PROCESSOR: MPC601 ǠAfter Intel came up with their long awaited Pentium processor ("586") it was time for Motorola to keep track, because also Digital came with their new Powerprocessor called Alpha. The MPC601 (Motorola PowerPC) is mainly designed to be used in both, the lower and the average class of powercomputers. The MPC620 should hit the market in the beginning of 1994, and will be in competition with the Pentium P6 running at 100 Mhz. This chip features a fully 64 bit architecture, which will be able to speed up to more than six to eight times than it`s little brother. In Austin, Texas they are also working on two new processors, labled MPC603 & MPC604. They will be used in Highspeed-servers & Mainframes. When you look at the price you can see that the new Motorola- processors are very much under the prices of Intel`s P5. But I think they won`t be a too big challange for Intel in the NEAR future, because the PC has to be compatible with the lower ones. Apple would like to change in winter 93/94 from the good old MC68000 to the RISC-ones. All in all: Reserve the Intels for the IBM-PCs, all others should enjoy the new Motorolas! end. JEHUFOs - Imagination Or Truth?nce II] UFOs - IMAGINATION OR TRUTH? Ȥ ɠby Acen/PHASE In issue three there was an article written by Friendly/Damian about UFOs and their, in his eyes, asserted existence. As I do not fully agree with him on this subject, I've written an article with which I want to share my views on this somehow "mysterious" and very interesting topic with all of you. In your article, Friendly, you started by giving a couple of examples of reported UFO-happenings. I will not comment any further on those specific ones, because I have neither read about them, nor do I have any specific knowlegde that deal with those asserted happenings. What could be said about UFO-happenings, though, is that there are up until now reported of more than one million "skirmishes" between humans and UFOs. At this point, it is very important to make clear what those three letters actually mean. UFO quite simply stands for "Unidentified Flying Object". What's not so quite simple, is what actually this definition covers. When speaking of UFOs, the first thing you think of, is probably those "flying plates" with green, slimy figures inside it, right? But the definition covers a lot more than just those little green men. In fact, an unidentified flying object is just an object in airspace which one doesn't seem to be able to identify....:-) That leaves us with every bloody thing in the air, not just "flying plates" or whatever they are called! But as Friendly just wrote about those, and since I guess that "flying plates" is the first thing that almost everyone thinks of when hearing about UFOs, I will concentrate on them. There are several issues that make me doubt that we ever have had visitors from another planet. First of all, human being can not celebrate that we have discovered everything between heaven and hell yet. What I am trying to say, is that I don't think we have discovered every natural phenomenon that belongs to our dear earth up until now, and I do not think we ever will. Now I hear all of you crying out that natural phenomenons can't simply be held responsible for every happening that has got the definition "UFO" linked to it, don't I? Well, you might very well have a good point there. I am not trying to convince anybody into believing such a thing either. I am just telling you that drawing the conclusion "there has to be an outer intelligence" is quite a fast and dramatic conclusion. Now let's continue with some other issues. The old Greeks, famous for their revolutionary philosophy, also wrote about "white and spaceship-like"-flying objects. If you now reply "Fine, another proof on the existence of UFOs", "flying plates", that is, you have forgotten something. If there were such crafts "flying around" in those days, and if they are doing so today, too, that must mean these non-human beings have been checking us up for a good many hundred years, perhaps even thousands. In my opinion, there are reason to question this. If other civilizations were interested in "keeping an eye" on us in the first place, I think most of you will agree with me when I say it sure must be a lot easier for them to first check out another civilization than their own, and then come back after, say a thousand years, to check how far we have developed over that period, contrary to the belief of them staying "on earth" all the time. That would surely be much to expensive and risky! When thinking of the astronomical distances in the universe between the Earth/our Solar System and other stars, it is for me fairly difficult to imagine visitors from other planets. The closest star to us, except for the sun itself, is more than four lightyears away. Even so, the star must consist of some special substances and matters which make it possible for it to have planets in orbit which there might be other life on, all different from ours. But let's hypothetically imagine life on a planet in the distance of four-five lightyears away from us. Let's also imagine that they have reached a tech-level far ahead of ours, so that they are able to build and make use of spaceships which can cruise at the speed of light (Beginning to look a lot like Star Trek, isn't it??). Now let's imagine that they settled out for a reconnaissance on our Earth. And at this point one of my strongest points faces daylight: Wouldn't it be much too risky for both men and machinery to travel all the way to Earth just to check if there was intelligent life there, when they surely must have invented the radiotechnology by the time they invented spaceships. (Keep in mind that the journey would at least have lasted four years, perhaps even more....) A couple of "pling-plings" on the radio:-) and they would have had the answer: Intelligent life on Earth or not! Another point in which to site, is the fact that up until now, not a single PROOF on the existence of an outerspace intelligence has turned up, neither in the form of left materials from UFOs, nor actual meetings between non-human beings/human beings which have scientifically been approved. Friendly explains this with stating that since none of these things apparently have happened, the UFOs, i. e. the flying plates, seem to just be observing us, and that they seem not too eager on starting a "panic" of some kind or another. Well, it is not my intention to be sarcastic, but I really do have to ask: If their intention was to not start some panic, wouldn't they be so smart that they then saw to that not 1 million reportings of them saw daylight?? Even if only ONE percent of the reports, that leaves us with 10000 "credible" skirmishes, was to be believed, that would still be an enormous amount, wouldn't it? And those reportings certainly have attracted attention! Friendly writes in his article about the Belgian UFO-happenings that "all the scientists agree that these objects have to be spaceships of an outerspace intelligence". Well, I, for one, would very much have liked to see the report that concluded with that. Send me a copy of it, would ya? :-) Well, I guess that's my views! Now, if YOU have other opinions on this very interesting topic, I strongly encourage you to write an article about it, for publication in The Jungle etc. You can always contact me for supporting Back-Pack with your latest own productions etc. If the Damian-guys have done their magnificent work once more (NO, I am not being ironic, HONEST!), there should be an add in the advertisement-section..... [Hmm. How should I interpret this? -ed] To Friendly/Damian: A little question for you: Have you ever thought about the fact that it is always "normal" people who report about UFOs, and never those thousands of astronomers who sit by their equipment all day and night long, looking for UFOs? Isn't that a curiosity?? Τend. JEIAmiga Is Creativity!2 ʡϤAMIGA IS CREATIVITY! ɠby BliTTeR Ǡ"The Amiga is just for playing", "Aaargh, you own an Amiga? What a toy!", "You say you have professional software...let me look...an Amiiiiga - what kind of professional soft? Mickey Mouse professional or what? Haha!" I guess some of you have heard such things from some `cool` PC users. Sure, now you want to prove that this isn`t right and therefore would like to show them some programs the Amiga has to offer. At the beginning you show them the latest Demo from Kefrens, but they only laugh at it, because you can`t play with it! "...and for what is this usefull?" they ask. Ok, that wasn`t the right thing to convice them, let`s try it with some good games. You show them Turrican II and think they would like it, but wrong. "...baahh, only 32 colors! My PC has 256! What a lame computer!" Since you own a new A1200, you try to explain them, why there aren`t 256 colors on the screen and why there is no need for a 16 channel XY hyper MIDI Soundcard for $ 500. Once again you fail, because they have the opinion that the original Amiga song would sound much better with their PC. Ok, while you are booting you wonder what programs you should show them to make them love the Amiga. Hmm..You boot the Workbench and wait...and wait...and WAIT! "How lame...my PC boots in 5 seconds!" Ok, you say that the Amiga is also as fast as the PC, but you don`t have a harddisc installed. You open some nice tools, different shells and would like to demonstrate the most stunning ability the Amiga has to offer: The multitasking! But what`s this? The PC users are laughing again! "What a fucking lame computer...I`m running on Windows 3.1 with 256 colors at 800x600 and have a picture behind it! This computer looks like if it was monochrome! Ok, you start your preferences and after some diskswaps you choose more colors and a higher resolution. After having done this, you are back in the workbench, but it looks the same as it was before. Hmm... ok, this isn`t the right way to convince them. But what should you do? Show them one of the `best` wordprocessing programs - Beckertext II? Yes, you try it and after waiting for nearly 3 minutes BT2 pops up. You try to write some text in order to show the abilities this program has. But what is this? Oh no! A guru hits your screen and everything goes down. Oh shit, no they are laughing even more, because they say that their super PC never fucks up. Now you try to load Dpaint. They force you to open a 640x480x256 screen, but you only can tell them that this isn`t possible since you own a 1084 monitor only. Shit, you feel angry and just one thing is left - sound. You search the disk where the newest version of the protracker was on, but you can`t find it at once. "I have all my tools on a 500MB HD and never have to wait - Amiga is lame." In the meantime you have found your Protracker and load it. EXPLODE LIBRARY Vxx.x needed. Oh no, you have to start it from your tooldisk, because the Workbench is too full to copy it on the disk. They are getting proud to own a PC and not an Amiga. The music you load sounds nice, but they claim to have a more stereo (???) sound. Now you are running out of ideas. Fine, it seems that you have `lost` your fight against the arrogant PC users and therefore give up. The next day you visit one of them and he shows you on his 486-66 (with big HD, XGA, SBpro, CD-ROM) some big adventures which look grafically really nice, Wingcommander II and X-Wing. He starts windows and clicks around. You are really impressed by the games and also have the chance to have a look at some wordprocessing programs like Word5, Wordperfect, etc. When you come home you look at your Amiga, think of the neverending problems from diskswapping to average adventures and aren`t happy with your Amiga. What do you do? I guess the most of you would buy a PC in the near future!!! Such a story happend to me when I had no HD and an old A500. Things have changed in the last year. Now the situation looks like this: The PC user is itching on my A1200 and would also like to buy an A1200 soon!!! Why? He noticed that not only the Amiga has so called `problems` and that the PC is even worse! Since he is coding in assembler on his 486, he has detected that the Amiga is much more powerfull than his PC! First he thought that 7 / 14 Mhz is really lame, but now he really misses the BliTTeR, [oh! -ed] CoPPeR, hardware-sprites and the fun I have in the Amiga scene. His kind of scene is ruled by unfriendly modem-contacts and old stuff. I think everybody who has sold his Amiga to buy a PC has come to this point and that it`s not important to see everytime only the good things, but to forget on the bad side of the medal. At last I would like to give you a good example he told me some time ago: "Why running the snail-Windows with 256 colors, when you can have an Amiga with 4 planes and speed? The PC-developers must de duds!" Additional comment from me: Where is the creativity on PC?"
