‡ The SCENE is splitting !! ------------------------- by Lithium/THE SILENTS Some months ago I read an article called "The scene is wonderful" by MERCURE of EOC1999. I think that this is a great way of watching the scene activities. It's not all bussiness out there, there are lots of guys who are only looking for fun and some new friends. I can't think of any hobby which makes the world as small as this one. It's pretty normal to have penpals in more than 1 country... After some time you'll get bored with most of them but you'll keep some of them and they'll become some real friends of yours. I think parties are the most important thing to keep the scene going, you meet all your friends and contacts there and you will meet their friends too. After some parties you'll know lots of cool guys if you are not too shy to talk a bit with a guy you don't know. Shyness is a main problem of all scene-guys. But I also think that this was the main reason why you are interested in computers. I am not one of those prophets who tell you to quit computers and start to become Johny-normal (means booze your ass off, drive an old car with lots of stickers and fuck with every girl you can get). No I don't think that you would enjoy this kind of life since you are too smart to live such a lousy "normal" life. But you can have lots of friends inside the scene, I mean real friends who you can thrust and meet on parties. Your stay in the scene might not be very long (5 years is nothing in a man's life). But let it be an enjoyable time. Lot's of those so called "famous" guys are leaving lately. I think that they are sooo bored by the scene because they refused to meet some guys who were not as famous as they were themselves. Great guys, go on like that. You should look to the 64 scene, after at least 10 years of computer-scene this computer is still alive and kicking. Sometimes I ask myself how long this will last and I think this might be for a very long time (maybe 50 years?) why???? Well first of all these computers are allmost undestructable in normal use. Secondly they have become very cheap and the most important thing--> when a freak gets bored and he quites the scene he'll probable sell his compy and a new user is born. So the 64 scene might be going on for a very long time. I hope the same will happen to the Amiga scene because it's fun to know some other guys who do more than playing the games that are released. The longer a computer exists, the less gamers there will be left because on the 64 the amount of games decreased a lot since 1986. And still the scene is very big, nowadays the demoscene rules the 64 breadbox. On the Amiga a terrible phenomenon is happening right now. The scene is splitting up into 2 different scenes - The crackerscene and the demoscene - The first being based on speed, the second on quality and famous names. This is not good, we should combine them again because otherwise the whole stuff might end sooner or later. Nowadays if you like both scenes it almost lookes like you have to join 2 groups. A demofreak in a crackergroup is soon called a lamer and the same counts for the crack-freak in a demogroup. Drop this attitude guys, make some groups where both things are united like PARADOX in the old days. Great demos means also great Crackintros and thats not common anymore for some groups. Most of them trow one of their standard DOS screens in front of the release and thats it. Remember that the demoscene was born out of crackintros, so please guys get together again before we loose contact. What about putting up some boards where you can only upload demos and utils. Or at least allowing demos on all boards. This would mean that swapping would die a bit more but you can't expect crackers to use the mail anymore. The modem is there and it won't disappear anymore unless very bad things start happening. But I really hope that some crack-demo groups will be set up soon. Lithium/TSL…
