INCOMPATIBLE PRODS -------------------------------------- Luckily, since the release of Kickstart 2.0, more and more people have become aware of the need to make their productions compatible with newer versions of the Kickstart, more RAM or faster processors. UNfortunately, there are STILL productions that aren't that compatible. We have considered whether we should try to increase the compatibility, simply by allowing only 100% forward-compatible productions in the Eurocharts. This would of course only apply to newer productions, e.g. from The Party II and onwards. So what is a 'future-compatible'- production? It's perfectly OK, if a production requires 68040, 10 Mb RAM and Kick 3.0, but then it should run on 68060, 20 Mb RAM and Kick 4.0 as well! What we refer to as incompatible productions are productions, that e.g. run with fake-fast, but not real-fast, like Seeing is Believing and Guardian Dragon I & II. We think that many owners of A500+, A600, A1200, A2000, A4000 etc., in short: everyone that doesn't have an A500 1.2/1.3 with 0.5 Mb chip and 0.5 Mb fake-fast, will agree with us, that instead of trying to get 20 more dots or 2 more faces in their routines, coders should make sure that their productions run on all machines. Commodore has given the guidelines to this ALL THE TIME, so everyone knows where the 'traps' are. Anyway, we won't actually remove all new, incompatible productions, simply because it is impossible for us to check everything with all configurations. We will just encourage everyone NOT to vote for these lame, lazy-coded, incompatible productions in the future, thus simply FORCING the coders to think about compatibility. Not the most greedy wish for the new year, is it? «Brush/LexNova1»
