THE AMIGA AMATEUR RADIO USER GROUP March 1991 1. The AARUG was started by G3LMH in May 1988 following the setting up of the original Group in the U.S.A. by Kathy Wehr, WB3KRN. Similar Groups are being set up in Germany, Italy, Australia and elswhere. 2. One of the most important objects of these Groups is to ensure that information related to amateur radio applications for the Amiga is rapidly disseminated. This is achieved by the exchange of newsletters and PD disks and in QSOs on the air, including Amiga Nets on 40m. 3. We aim to promote the use of the Amiga for amateur radio applications and to assist one another to deal with problems. There is a wide spectrum of expertise within the AARUG ranging from beginners to professional programmers. 4. Our Newsletter, Amigan Airwaves, is published about four times per year but there are no specific publication dates; we prefer to wait until there is sufficient worthwhile material rather than to stick to a rigid timetable. Contributions (to G3LMH please) for the U.K. Newsletter are always welcome and need not be confined to amateur radio-related matters; few members use their Amigas exclusively for amateur radio! 5. Charlie Morgan, G0EIW deals with duplication and distribution of newsletters. Members should ensure that they have a minimum of one SAE (preferably 9" x 6") with Charlie at all times. Alternatively, Charlie will send four newsletter packages for one pound. If you prefer this arrangement, please let him know. 6. The U.K. Group has set up its own library of PD software which includes the best of the original disks from the U.S. and compilations of the best utilities and other programs we have collected from all over the world. Andy Hewat G8NTH, deals with PD disk duplication and distribution and maintains the current listing of what is available. Please send him blank disks and return postage if you would like copies. 7. All AARUG members are listed on the database which is regularly updated by G3LMH. Membership now exceeds 200 and is still growing with the continuing popularity of the Amiga. Your co-operation is requested in notifying your details or amendments promptly so as to ensure that the database listing is as comprehensive and useful as possible to all members, both old and new. The database details include name, address, callsign, telephone number, packet mailbox, type of Amiga and TNC and principal interests. Copies of the latest issue of the database can be obtained at any time by sending an SAE to G3LMH. 8. There is no subscription for membership of the AARUG although donations are never refused! We do ask that members always ensure that they send sufficient return postage when corresponding with other members whenever a reply is requested. 9. Members are asked to publicise the existence of our Group whenever and wherever they can. It is surprising how many `Help!' messages still appear on PBBSs from new Amiga owners who seem to think that they may be the first or only ones in the world wanting to use their machine for amateur radio..... 10.
