Well two guys I know did and they decided to investigate. Their first step was to find a deserted fone.... After driving around for {eabsolutely hours{a, they found just such a phone in a {fremote(ish) country lane{a. It was a {epyramid-style fone {awith no door. They walked in and wondered where to start. At this point they decided they would look a {cbit {fsuspicious {ataking the guts out of a phone on the middle of nowhere. {eSo they decided to steal the phone.{a {aAfter scanning the back of their car they discovered various {euseful tools{a. A {fjack{a, a {fsocket set {aa {fhammer {aand some {fscrewdrivers{a.... They set to work trying to {cprise {athe thing off the {ewall without much luck. {aOne of the {cphreaks {adecided to try a different strategy. {a"{mHitting the fuck out of it with a brick{a" !! {fIt seemed to work as it loosened it quite a lot and they could now see inside as the top right hand corner was totally bent forward. {aNext they stuck various tools in the hole and prised the front forward. {cBaboing{a..... Suddenly, One of the phreaks was holding the front of a pay phone in his arms. {a"{mFuck{a," he said and threw it into the back of the car. {aThen they came to find me {f(Terminator) {ain work but we had to wait as I couldn't just dissappear {m(Without losing any pay {a(grin){m ) {aAnyway, after work, I went out to the car of the {ephreaks {aand they showed me a bag on the back seat. {eI got into the car and looked in the bag. {a"{mOH MY GOD{a" I thought. I couldn't believe I was looking at these {ccircuit boards {aand other types of {fshit {afrom a payphone. {fExcellent. {aWe then started driving back to the {cphonebox {afrom {fwhence it came{a! {aEventually, We got there. {f It was miles from nowhere.{a {aI couldn't {ebelieve {cBT {awould {mdare {ato put a fone in such a remote place without worrying about {fphreaks{a. {aI then set about {cnosing inside {athe {fremnants {aof the phone to make sure that Nothing handy was left inside. There was nothing of interest except a {cbracket on a spring {a(a sort of pull down thing). {aIt had a {fsticker {aon either side containing information on various {mtest calls {aand {mreturn codes{a. Ever wondered what that flashing number meant when you've just stuck your foot through the phone ? {cHere's a replication of the two stickers....{a {e[Ed: I bet {fBT {edidn't colour it as nicely as {mSatanic Rites {ehas!] {fSide1: {a 999 SERVICE. Fancy thinking this kind of shit will stop us! {d(HEHE!){a {cA week later... {aThe phone was stashed in one of the phreaks houses. His dad was {fslightly perplexed {as to why a pay phone was in his son's room. The phone had to go {e(Or the phreak had to go so to speak! grin. :-){a {cThe phone was dumped.... {aThat text was written several months ago. Now, the two phreaks have become much wiser and have found a sure fire way of ripping off the box. {d(However not the cashbox - WHY!!!!) {aApparently, a jack between the cashbox and the phone prises it off the wall. {eExcellent ! {aThe phreaks have asked to remain nameless. So be it dudes! You know who you are, and respect to you two! {cThey now also have a collection of phones stashed away including an {fRAC motorway phone.{a {eDid you know that you can set the number it dials in the {cback {eof the phone? {aOne of the {cphreaks {aset one to dial his mobile phone and he had about six calls a day! {fYou could also set it to call a {mfonebox{a. Do you actually think I give a fuck? {eLamer!:{a What? {fFuckin' hell {aI ain't never gonna use you lot again! {eThat's all for now.. {mC ya! {eTerminator. {aGreat article, Termy. I reckon that the {c`Test disk' {ais a fake coin for testing the coin rails, but you're the expert! How about a sequel to this article next issue? The same sort of thing, just this time steal a {cphonecard {abox! {fAmmendment: {aI'm considering it... (Grin). {c-Terminator {fFurther ammendment: {c- from one of the anonymous phreaks {a The `done' method to get the {fcash box {aoff the {ewall {ais to put a car jack on a pile of bricks and prise it off with that. {eYou could also try hitting the fuck out of it with a sledgehammer{a, although I'd suggest that this is considerably noiser. {aHowever, {mBE QUICK{a. {eBT are replacing their silly square boxes for differently shaped boxes that are harder to get into. {aThis hasn't deterred phreaks in some areas and now BT are {finstalling alarms {ain the most {mfrequently robbed {aphones. {eGood places to try: {fLittle Chef Resturants: {a Most motorway {eLittle Chefs {ahave a {fBT payphone {ainstalled outside. The beauty is that they take a lot of money during the day and that the sites are deserted after {cmidnight. {fTown Centres: {a Could be difficult as the police are usually based in town. The advantage is that these phones take a {mLOT {aof money, and that at 4am they'll not be anyone about anyway. {fStations: {a Take money like fuck {cBUT {abe careful! There are trains coming in all the time! It may be worthwhile to study a timetable to judge the best time for yourself! This time would be {fEARLY IN THE MORNING {a(3am) AND when few trains are running. {eYou'll find that very few BR stations are manned at this time of night and thus you're {mpretty safe{e. {cBT {fclaim {athat the {ecash boxes {acontain about {m15 {cquid{a. This is {cbullshit{a. Some, {erarely used {aphones do contain such `{fsmall{a' amounts (15 quid is worth stealing). Most, {eespecially {aon the day before they're due to be emptied, contain around {c80 pounds{a. The cashbox's {fcapacity {ais around {e200 pounds{a, and this sort of figure is obtained at {eLondon trainstations {aand {eairports {aalmost {fDAILY{a. {fFinish. {aPlease beware that the practises described in this article are {fillegal{a and that the team are publishing it for {minformational {ause only! -Ed!
