MindGames Doc by Rick Hughes I. SETTING UP II. ABOUT THE COLLECTION III. THE MIND GAMES INTERFACE - Short Cuts and Such IV. For 512k Users V. For 3000 owners I. SETTING UP This disk has been tested under 1.2, 1.3, and 2.0. The MindGames interface needs a 1 meg Amiga, but NO libraries not included on standard WorkBench disks are needed for any of the included games. The interface forces the default font to be size 8, Pearl font if the user has that font, or Topaz if Pearl is not available. I have included the preal font on this disk if you'd like to copy it to your fonts: directory. That should take care of any default font problems 3000 owners should have, but if 3000 folks still have font size problems, please reset default font to size 8. Hard Drive Owners: To install the Mindgames programs on your hard drive, just drag the MindGames drawer to wherever you want it on your hard drive, even inside other drawers. The MindGames interface will find its files with no assignments needed on your part. WARNING TO ALL: Do NOT rename ANYTHING inside the MindGames drawer, INCLUDING the MindGames interface itself. If you do, the interface will not be able to find itself or the other files. This disk has been Beta tested on several types of Amigas. But if you have deleted some of the standard Amiga libraries, such as ANY of the math libraries from your WorkBench disk, the MindGames interface and some of the games will not work. An easy solution is to boot with a copy of your original WorkBench disk. II. ABOUT THE COLLECTION First: THIS IS NOT PD NOR SHAREWARE. It is a registered disk. NO money for copying disks or anything else may exchange hands. NO financial transactions except by the following REGISTERED PD houses: Premier Software, JumpDisk, DevWare, and CranWare. This includes networks who charge a download fee and/or membership and Amiga user groups who charge copying fees or membership fees before a user can gain access to the PD library. ALL the programs belong to their individual programmers. This disk as a collection and the Mind Games Interface as a program is copyright 1991 by Rick Hughes. All right reserved. After several months of wading through a few hundred PD and shareware disks, I think I've come up with a fine selection of Amiga mind games. None of these games use a joy stick. The use of one wouldn't knock a game from my list, but the idea of this collection is MIND skill rather than reflex action. A few games require you to not only think fast, but also to move fast as well. That's fine with me. It's also saved my neck a few times. Some may be a bit shocked at my collection-- what are some arcade-like games doing here? What's a graphic-text adventure doing on the same disk with Tiles? The beauty of all the games is that they force us to think. But since we are all wonderfully unique, we like to learn in a variety of ways. So choose the type of games you prefer....and when you aren't looking, try a completely different game. Just don't tell yourself that you did! I did NOT break these games down by grade level. My niece beats the life out of me in AMastermind, so there goes grade level ratings. I teach English and drama in the PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Yes, I AM a PUBLICan! My educational philosophy: Thinking can be fun, even when you hate it. One should experience the pleasure of frustration. III. THE MIND GAMES INTERFACE Requires at least a 1 meg Amiga running 1.2, 1.3, or 2.0. Two drives or hard drive preferred. The interface was designed using CanDo by Inovatronics. I did my best to make it easy to use. Click on the left mouse button to run a game, click on the right mouse to read that game's docs. OR you can type the letter for that game to run it or hold the SHIFT key and that game's letter for the game's docs. The HELP key works, too. All the main buttons-- quit, iconify, sound on/off, Fast Help, and About can be accessed by the right Amiga key and the first letter in the button command, such as right Amiga/Q to quit. The main buttons are explained below: Quit - quits the Mind Games interface and returns memory. Iconify - shrinks the screen onto WorkBench. From the iconified window, you can quit the interface or return to the games screen. About - tells you how to reach me: Rick Hughes RR 1 Box 153B Monroe, VA 24574 Fast Help- tells you how to use the interface. Sounds on/off - The buttons make a clanging noise unless you click on this toggle. The SOUND light will go out and the buttons will be silent. You can toggle it back on by clicking on the Sound button again. Those of you who play Pipe may find the sound somewhat familiar (HEHE). IV. For 512k Users Don't even TRY to use the Mind Games interface. It will blow up all life forms, crash your Amiga, or just plain not work. You can still play most if not all the games by running the games from their icons. You really SHOULD buy a 512k cartridge for your machine as soon as possible, though. Right now you have a sports car with a few spark plugs missing. V. For 3000 owners One game, Pipe, will crash if you choose the ABOUT menu item first. Solution: don't choose it first. ;) I set the font to Pearl 8 or Topaz 8, so I hope that takes care of default font problems.
