Chryseis cruncher ================= THIS IS A PRE-RELEASE VERSION. I DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO CHECK OUT THE LEGAL ENVIRONNEMENT.... This means : I didn't have the time to look if the crunching algorithms were pattented or not. If so, please let me know. A new version using another algorithm is on its way, but I've been urged to release a beta version in order to suit the scene's needs. So DON'T BLAME ME if I'm against copyrights. And if you think you're not concerned, be aware that if it's copyrighted, you cannot use this package. The final (not beta) version will be released with an user interface and copyrights checked ... ====================== CHRYSEIS CRUNCHER V0.9 ====================== pre-release 1. January 1994. Well, we (and many other groups on the scene) had problems with their one file demos for the A1200. Where does this problem come from ? A1200 demos can work with 2Mb chip RAM, the disk drive is still 880 Kb, so you need to crunch. No problem just here, but if your demo is almost 2Mb and reduce to about 1Mb when crunched, you need, with most packers : 1 + 2 = 3Mb memory. There's just one old cruncher around wich allows you to decrunch while loading : titanic cruncher. TITANIC is OLD, TITANIC is SLOOOOOOW (almost 30 ' to crunch a 1.7 Mb demo on my A3000), TITANIC is INEFFICIENT. So here is the CHRYSEIS cruncher : CHRYSEIS is NEW, CHRYSEIS is DAMN FAST, CHRYSEIS is THE MOST EFFICIENT, CHRYSEIS DECRUNCHS WHILE LOADING ! The idea was to take the titanic's approach to load module, and the crunching algorithms from powerpacker. The result is there ! Technical info : The one file produced with Chryseis cruncher is an overlay supervisor with one hunk of data wich it is decompressing hunk by hunk. The crunching algorithm is a lempel-ziv like (size-offset encoding) with variable sized size-and-offset information, but instead of coding string repetitions, it's coding byte repetitions (it's just like byterun-1 but with extra offset information). -------======== THIS PRODUCT IS *NOT* FREEWARE ========------- WHY ? Because it costed me lots of money to attend "the party '93" in Denmark Because it costs me lots of time debugging such a product Because I do not have enough money to be that active on the scene WHY YOU ? If you win a big prize at a big party because your product was crunched just in time before the deadline, then, without me, you couldn't have won, so ... just give me a little part of this price ... If you're coding a huge game for a commercial company, you'll gain lots of time with this cruncher ... "time is money", so give me this money. HOW MUCH ? Wathever you like, but don't send coins ;-) and don't send non-european money (except US$ and CAN$) as I wouldn't be able to change this ! Especially, don't send national bank's checks, use EuroChecks instead. ___________________ _________----------------- -----------------_________ The adresses : contact: LazyCoder on IRC (channel #Amiga) or: BP 7 1080 GANSHOREN BRUSSELS BELGIUM Who am I : The Lazy Coder is, with Mad Martigan, member of CHRYSEIS in the 'tools coders' section. His job in the group, as CHRYSEIS is mostly a demo group, is to ensure that code is compatible with almost the whole range of Amiga computers. He soon will be graduated as bachelor in computer science. And so, he is looking for a job in the industry (as expert in compression methods, for instance)
