OctaMED Professional Version Five. ======================================= Anyone who read CU Amiga's piece on OctaMED Pro V5 will be very disappointed to find out that it shouldn't really have been published. OCTAMED PRO V5 WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL WAY INTO THE LATTER STAGES OF 1993. A FIXED RELEASE DATE HAS NOT YET BEEN SET. The code for V5 has been completely rewritten and many 1.3 Amiga owners will be very disappointed to find out that it will only work on operating systems of 2 and above (i.e. A5OO+, A6OO, A12OO, A4OOO/3O, A4OOO etc.) Ray Burt-Frost has assured me that as soon as a definate price and release date has been fixed for OctaMED Pro V5, he'll pass on full details to the club. Anything you hear before this COULD be absolute rubbish. The version which CU Amiga got their hands on was the Alpha version of OctaMED Pro 5. This is a sort of " Preview " to show interested parties the ideas for the new version and give them a general idea what it is going to look like. It's distribution is strictly monitered and each copy has the owner's name written into the programmes code, so if copies are spread about, the guilty parties can be reprimanded!!!! In the meantime, here are my PERSONAL opinions on the alpha version. PLEASE bear in mind that these are only my opinions and as these are such early days, anything could change between now and the release date. The main screen of OctaMED has been compleatly redesigned. Options like Play Song and Stop are on screen at all times and the inclusion of project menus (such as those on Deluxe Paint and Workbench) leave more room on screen for other options. When you call up things like the sample editor, they appear as windows over the main screen and can be moved about accordingly with the main screen always visible (and usable) behind them at all times. At the moment, the programme takes the colours of your workbench so if this option stays, it will stop people with the annoying habit of changing the screen colours to horrible greens and purples when they save their mods!!! Obviously (as the programme takes up less than 10% of a disk) most features don't actually work yet but all the old features seem to be there. The main problem will be actually finding them. To allow for the addition of new features, nearly everything has been moved about and I suspect it will take a while for most users to get used to the new system. Apart from that, everything looks extremely promising and as soon as new information becomes available, it's certain you'll find it first through TI!
