********************** * Super DMS Doc v1.2 * ********************** * By * * Russell Lewis * ********************** Introduction ------------ You`ve switch on your computer, flung the disk into the drive, a click click clung clung later workbench appears. In the middle you see the nice super DMS icon, Hmmmm, I think I`ll click on that and then you double click on the Super DMS icon. Then ARRRRGGGGH!!!!, you are presented with a screen full of buttons but what do they do, well those buttons are the thing that will enable you to crunch whole disks into one file. We`ll, you decided to quit and read the docs, well here you are.... What is DMS ----------- Dms is a program written by SDS software and then re written by ParCon software that allows you to crunch a entire disk, Dos or Non Dos into one file using a range of crunching modes. It also allows you to put a password onto a DMS file so that no one you don`t want to can get into can. Also included is FMS that allows you to crunch single files into one file. If you are using a unregistered version of DMS files over 60k cannot be crunched using this option. For more info read the DMS docs included on the disk. Note to PD librarys ------------------- This disk and its contents may not be sold for more than £3 pound including P&P. If you do sell it for more than this we will stop supplying software to you, and legal action may be taken. This program took months to make so respect my wishes. The buttons ----------- DMS --- PACK - Packs a disk to a file using the options chosen UNPACK - Unpacks a file onto disk using the options chosen PACK POWER 0,1,2,3 - Allows you choose the strengh of the compresion. 0 - Weakes, 4 - Strongest CHOOSE TRACKS - (Not for beginners) Allows you to choose the tracks of a disk for crunching, 0 & 40 for example. Tracks must be between 0 and 79 though. PASSWORD - Specifys a password of your choice for encrypting and decrypting files. FROM DEVICE - Allows a device like DF0:, Df1: or RAD: that will be crunched or a file will be crunched onto. Defult = DF0: ADD TEXT FILE - Allows you to put a text file onto the DMS that can be seen when file is being de-crunched through WB or CLI LOAD TRACKER MODULE - Allows you to load a tracker module to be played when a disk is being packed or unpacked. No Med modules!! MAKE DMS SELF EXTRACT - Allows you to make the DMS file self extracting so you don`t need DMS to extract just double click on the file icon. FMS --- MAKE EXEC FMS - Makes a FMS file auto executing, like SFX. CHOOSE OUTPUT FILE - Choose a path for files to be crunched to. E.G. df0:dir/rrr.fms ADD FILE TO FMS - Crunches a file to the Path chosen above. EXRACT PATH - Path to use when extracting file out of a FMS file EXTRACT FILE - Choose a file to extract out to the above. MOUSE MENU OPTIONS ------------------ All the menu options have keybourd shortcuts exept for the help menu which only has a couple which means that all you have to do is press a key to do something, like the [ ESC ] key to quit the program. There is also a help menu that gives you a brief description of all the options. There are also a couple of options the allow you to copy & delete file and to create dirs without having to go into WB. DMS EXAMPLE ----------- How to Pack a disk in DF0: using a Password ( 5556 ) and only packing tracks 0 - 56, also playing a music module and puting a text file on the DMS. PASSWORD Type 5556 Retype 5556 FOR DEVICE Type DF0: CHOOSE TRACKS Type 0 Type 56 LOAD TRACKER MODULE Select module LOAD TEXT FILE Choose module Type N PACK FMS EXAMPLE ----------- Pack two file called Carp and Shell that are place on DF0:Fish/ into a file called FISHY in RAM:Fishes/ and make it executable I would do this..... CHOOSE OUTPUT FILE Type Ram:fishes/fishy ADD FILE TO FMS Choose Carp ADD FILE TO FMS Choose Shell MAKE EXEC FMS Choose Ram:fishes/FISHY Its that simple PLEASE NOTE ----------- If you only have two disk drives put the SDMS Disk into df1: and use df0: to pack and unpack disks but if you only have one drive remove the SDMS disk and do not use it at all. When requesters come up asking for the disk just press cancel. And remember to keep the disk write protected. So that there is a hole over the top left corner of the disk. PLAGUE and SUPER DMS HISTORY (Just incase your interested) ---------------------------------------------------------- Plague all started back in 1991 when Lee Pedder wrote a remix of SONIC the Hedgehog Music. I thought Hmmm, that soungs good. I went and bought some music disks from a PD library and was gobsmaked by it and then thought, I`m going to do that. I formed a group called Genasalmp were we made a few crappy products like Sample disks, I then recieved AMOS on a coverdisk of a magazine and decided to learn it. I did so and then upgraded to AMOS Pro and finally Assembler. It was then That we changed our name to Plague Prods so that we could start a new. We got some contacts and I set up PAUG, the Plague amiga users group (An advert can be seen in AMIGA SHOPPER every month). After writting a few demos I set about on a major project. Operation Easy DMS, a button operated DMS with only a few commands. I then started work in January 1995 on Easy DMS 2 that was finnished but never relesed because I got bored. In March 1st I set about on Super DMS (Easy DMS 2.1), a compleatly re written user interface for DMS and it was finnaly released on 13th April. 1 month and 12 days later. Thats why is is Shareware. SDMS 1.3 was then written and now SDMS v1.4 is now finnished. REGISTERING ----------- If you use SUPER DMS why not register your DMS (address in DMS doc) and your copy of Super DMS. Registering costs £5 pounds for Super DMS and in return you will recieve future updates of Super DMS and other utilitys by Plague. You will also recieve tecnical support on Plague`s products. Also don`t forget to register DMS with Parcon Software. Address can be found in the DMS Doc.
