So all in all, there has been a lot of action and a lot of deaths, but very
little change. Indeed the Pylene 50 programme so closely resembled the
drug-induced state of the inhabitants of Earth shown at the start of the
series, that one could be excused for thinking that nothing had happened.

If the Federation was able to withstand the destruction of 80% of its fleet
and its most important computer base and still go on expanding, then
whatever it was that was needed to make major changes would have to be
either incredibly big and strong, or so radical and unusual that the main
force at the disposal of the Federation (its sheer size and single-minded
brutality) could not resist it. The plan, after Blake's death, would have
to be something previously unthought-of, if it was to change the Federation
at all. Something unique .....

Outer Darkness - The matter/energy converter would prove useful to the
(Sardos)         Federation as an aid to rebuilding its fleets as it was
                 stated that, already, many Cruisers had been replicated.

Darkling Zone  - The civilisation which wants Earth people to remain on Earth
(Cygni 61)       

System         - The computer system was destroyed in Sector 12 but some of
                 the advanced technology may still exist.

Thaarn         - Escaped from Sector 12 but present location unknown.
