This manual, covers all you will ever need to know, plus alot more! So, what is Match? Well, Match is a simple little mind game, if you don't mind, neither do I! A little joke there! Anyway, Match IS a mind game. The idea is simple. All you do, is to match, hence the name, the different picture cards, to each other. You get, two of each picture card, and you have to match a card with another one the same! It is basically, like 'snap'. Sort of?! You'll see what I mean! So then, what else? Well, this text file covers some important points, and also covers complete instructions for using Match. So read on... ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° ¼ ° ¼ ° FIRST STEPS °°° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°°³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° Before running this game, make sure you read this! First of all, you should make a back-up copy of both Match disks. This is to ensure, you do not lose this game, due a disk failure, or something. If you do get a corrupt disk, then contact us, at the address at the bottom, for a re-copy from our master disks. The next VERY important point, is the Match saves files to the data disk, these being the 'hi-scores' and the 'user deck'. >> The MATCH DATA disk (disk 2) - MUST be left 'WRITE-ENABLED' << If you do not leave the disk write-enabled, then a prompt will pop-up and request you write-enable the disk. To sum-up, follow these points before running the game... <1> Back-up these disks and keep the masters safe <2> Make sure the second disk (DATA) is 'WRITE-ENABLED' ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° ¼ ° ¼ ° SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS °°° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°°³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° This game, has been designed for the Amiga A1200. If you have picked the option 'SHOW CARDS' then a timer will count down the seconds of the show cards. When game has started, proper, you will see all of the 36 cards, to the left of the screen, face-down, or back-up depending upon your point of view! A new button is on the screen, during a game, this is 'STOP'. Click on this button if you want to stop the game or stop a show cards count, it will take you back to the main menu screen. In the top-right-ish area, is your 'SCORE'. Initially, set to zero! Below it, is the amount of TRYS you have taken, intially also zero. Finally, just above the STOP button and below the TRYS display, is another card. This is the card you select and try to match to. Initally, you see the back of this card. But if you then select a card from the main screen, a copy of the card will be displayed here. This is in case you changed the option of removing cards, to NO. In which case, every match you get, will NOT be taken off the screen. This can make if difficult to remember which card you selected, so there is a copy of the card to help you out! Playing? Well, all you have to do, is to match cards on the screen, to other cards that are identical. To do this, simply click on the back of the card you want to select, it will then be shown and then click on the second card you want and it will also be shown, though, breifly if you do not make a match. Every 2 clicks, ie every time you try to make a match, the amount of TRYS will be increased by one. If you match a pair of cards, then you will also get a SCORE (See SCORING). At the end of a game, that is, when ALL pairs of cards have been matched, then the amount of TRYS you took, will be deducted from your SCORE. This then gives you, your final SCORE. Which, may (or may not!) be enough to get onto the 'HISCORE' table. If your score is enough to get onto the hiscore table, then the hiscore table editor will be displayed. See HISCORE EDITOR for more details. If you don't have a big enough score, and you have the speech option on 'YES', then you will get a sarcastic comment!! ±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° ¼ ° ¼ ° SCORING °°° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±°°³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° Every time you 'match' a pair of cards, you get a score! For the first match, you get 100 points, if you can then get another match > IMMEDIATELY AFTER < the first one, you get 150 points, if you can then get another match > IMMEDIATELY AFTER < the second one, you get 200 points and so on. Going up and up by 50 points, every time you get successive 'matches', I am not talking about those sticks that start fires! If you get a match, you get 100 points, if you do not then get another match, immediately after it, you get nothing more, and the next match you get starts at 100 points. If this is not too clear, here is an example of a game scoring... ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° µ µ µ ° GO µ Action µ Score µ ³±±±±±±±±·±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±·±±±±±±±±±±±±±· ° µ µ µ ° Go 1 µ A Match µ 100 points µ ° Go 2 µ Another Match µ 150 points µ ° Go 3 µ Incorrect Match µ No Score µ ° Go 4 µ A Match µ 100 points µ ° Go 5 µ Another Match µ 150 points µ ° Go 6 µ Another Match µ 200 points µ ° Go 7 µ Another Match µ 250 points µ ° Go 8 µ Incorrect Match µ No Score µ ° Go 9 µ Incorrect Match µ No Score µ ° Go 10 µ A Match µ 100 points µ ³±±±±±±±±·±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±·±±±±±±±±±±±±±· After these 10 goes, you would have a 'TOTAL' score of... 100+150+0+100+150+200+250+0+0+100 = 1050 points By the way, the number of TRYS would be, er, well, 10!!! I hope this makes the scoring system clearer. Playing the game, you will start to see what I am saying! I hope!? At the end of a game, when you have correctly matched ALL cards, your score will have the number of TRYS deducted from it, to give you your final, grand total. This may or may not be enough to get onto the 'hiscore' table. If it is not, then the game goes back to the main menu, if your score is enough to get on the hiscore table, the hiscore name editor will be displayed, see 'HISCORE EDITOR' below. Due to the 'sliding' score scale, and of course 'bad play', it is very easy to score a really SMALL score!! Played correctly, you can score in excess of 5000 points! In fact the maximum score you can get, after deducting the minmum number of TRYS possible (18) is around 9400!! This is of course, by matching every pair in turn, hence only 18 goes as there are 18 pairs!! ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° ¼ ° ¼ ° HISCORE EDITOR °°° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°°³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° If you get a high enough score, you will get onto the 'HISCORE' table. In this case the 'HISCORE NAME EDITOR' will be displayed. Here you can edit the name for the new score, amazingly! This section covers a brief guide to using the editor. To begin with, you will have to have score more than 1000 points to get onto the hiscore table. So then, using the editor... When the editor is displayed, you will see at the top of the screen, the old hiscores, these are in green (like that makes any difference?!) Below them is a red area, with a position number at the far left and your hiscore you got to the far right, in the middle is where you enter your type in your name or whatever you want to! You will notice a red back facing arrow, this indicates the position of the cursor for the name. Below all of that stuff above (eh?) you will seen a whole load of little buttons! For starters, theres the alphabet, then theres the numbers 0 to 9 and then theres the special buttons. The first of these is a 'SPACE' button. This has two lines at each edge of the button, with an arrow pointing to the right. This puts a space. The 'SPACE' button looks like this... ³±±¢° ° ¥° Then theres the 'DELETE' button. This simple has an arrow pointing to the left. This deletes the last character of the name. The 'DELETE' button looks like this... ¡±±± ¦ Finally, theres the 'ENTER' button. This is the same design as a keyboard enter/return key, an arrow going round a corner to the left. The 'ENTER' button looks like this... µ ¡±±· ¦ So, when you are happy with the name you have put, click on the 'ENTER' button, this will then save the 'new' hiscore table to the disk 2 (DATA). After the hiscore is saved, the 'MAIN' menu will be displayed. ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° ¼ ° ¼ ° USER DECK EDITOR °°° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°°³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° This version of Match has 23 defined decks and 1 user definable. So you can design your own set of 18 cards, in case you find the others boring! So, by selecting 'EDIT USER DECK' from the 'OPTIONS' menu, the editor screen will be displayed. The left-side of the screen has the 18 user defined cards displayed. Just select the card you want to edit, by clicking on the card. To the right of the screen, there are the controls. At the top-right-ish area, is the actual card designer display. This is where you edit the card you have select, by drawing, point by point. To the top right of this display, is a long bar, that shows the currently selected pen colour. Below this bar, is a button, called 'RESET' which will clear the current card using the current colour of the pen. Finally, below all of this, is 20 colours you can pick for the pen colour, simply select the colour required and it will be displayed on the bar at the top-right. Finally, there 3 option buttons in the bottom right of the screen. The first one, is called 'DEFAULT' this 'resets' the whole user defined deck to the default, BEWARE! Once clicked, that's it! Though if you don't save the deck, the old user deck will still be loaded next time you load the game in. The second button, is 'SAVE'. This, strangely, 'saves' the current user deck, that you can see on the screen. The final button is 'OKAY', this takes you back to the 'OPTIONS' screen, but before doing so, stores the user deck in memory for use in the game. A few pointers about the editor... ¿ If you edit a deck and do not save the deck, but simply go 'okay', the deck is stored into memory for use in the game, but if you do not save the deck from the editor, then it will not be perminant stored. So, make sure if you want the deck, to store it 'perminantly' by 'saving' it to disk via the 'SAVE' option. You have been told! ¿ The designer display, is really for point by point work and not for drawing! It acts like an airbrush and is not continuous line draw. ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±± ° µ¦ ° ¼ ° CONTACTING VISION X (THAT's US!!) µ °° °° ³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±· °³±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±°° ¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢°¦±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±±¢° If you would like to contact us, for any reason, then please feel free to write to us, at this address...
