DTP ON AMIGA çedf,888,0f0,aaf,f8f,ff0,fff ¾DTP ON AMIGA!!!! ¹Becouse I'm studying layout and that kind of things, I often work with DTP, both on Mac and PC. And at home I've my incredible Amiga 500. I have got the chanse to test Page Maker on Mac, PC and ofcoz Amiga (PageStream). And here's my review. ¢First of all some configurations. ¹Mac : Quadra with 20 meg (!) mem, plus a big HD. PC : 486/33. 6 meg mem plus a big HD. Amiga : 500 and 1200. Two drives. 1 meg in 500, and 2 in 1200. Let's take a look at the diffrent programs: ¾MAC PAGEMAKER 4.0 ²¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹Worked well. Rather like the Amiga. Loads of diffrent fonts and styles. More than one document open at same time. And it's rather fast. You can't rotate a picture (You can do this in Quark Express, but this program is boring...). ¾PC PAGEMAKER ?.? WINDOWS ²¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹Well... There was some ugly fonts, but I think there will be better fonts on the market. The program could only have one document open. There were no ¶çedf,888,0f0,aaf,f8f,ff0,fff¹cool styles, just bold, italic, underlined and the usually stuff. It was slow when I used the HD, and when I used the diskdrive... Shit! It took ages to load a little ASCII text! The program has a built-in converter, but the converter couldn't even convert a Write document to pure ASCII - my text was destroyed and characters were swapped, changed and deleted.BAD! When you rotate a text, you can't change it. You have to rotate it back first. ¾AMIGA PAGESTREAM 2.2 ²¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹I will be honest. It was rather slow on the A500 with 1 meg, but I'll understand that. But on the A1200 it was fast. You can open loads of documents (if you have the memory, witch my A500 didn't have), rotate pictures, texts (and you can even edit them after rotating!). Loads of diffrens styles, like shadow, outline, the usaully stuff (bold, italic etc), mirror and more. PageStream is running in interlace, so it will flick if you don't got a multisync monitor and flicker-fixer. I have succed to crash all of these program, so none of them is bugfree. What I mean is, that Amiga is as good as Mac at DTP, maybe even better. PC suxx (as usually... hehe...), and it's not becoz I think PC is crap, it's just suxx. ¾by: Groggy/242
