å2 THE GATHERING 94' REPORTå0 This is Darkhawk typing for your pleasure. At the moment I'm sitting at The Gathering writing this. It's Friday and the party stops tomorrow. So, I'll take this from the beginning, and the beginning is the story about how we made our way up here. We started our trip in Vojens DK at about 21.44. By train we travelled to Arhus DK. We arrived at 0.17. Yep, from there we should take a bus together with some dudes from Polka Brothers. Only problem was that the bus started 5.45 in the morning, that means we had to wait 5 hours for the bus!!! At 1.17 we got thrown out of the trainstation and found ourselves a cold and windy place to sit... Cooool! Well, OK, but Adonis thought that we should cut our names in the wood of the bench, so he did. Heheheheh, we learned that they had a good policesurveillance in Arhus, when Adonis had written Adoni, they caught him! He, fun I guess. He says he had a clean policerecord... Well, no more! But some hours later, when there was a fight down the way, there was no police in sight... Soooo unfair, eh? Oki, at 5.45 we was again travelling, and nothing special occured. During the boattrip some of us sat up their computers (not without certain problems, heh). A lot of people were interested and looked on these young "hackers"... Hmm, but at about 19.00 we found a taxi and got driven to the partyplace. 16 people and a lot of computers in a mediumsized taxi... We'll contact Guiness soon... It was a bit narrow. Just to give you a priceexample from Norway... The taxidriver got 489 for driving us, let's say 14 kilometres. Well, then the party could start. The entrancefee was 150 NKr for those who had payed in advvance, and 200 NKr for all others. The press got in for free. Well, since we arrived on the third partyday, I may have missed something, but my contacts say that I haven't missed much, so I guess I have to thrust them. Hmm, by the way, Flower Child did order 2 cheeseburgers and two cokes... Well, the price was... 102 NKr! Yes, a bit expensive I think! But you could order many (expensive) kinds of food. There are two halls here, and one outside tent for sleeping (I'll get back to that one later). The halls are of a good size, and there are screens in both of them. The screens could've been bigger, but I haven't actually seen anything on them yet, it's not like the Party III, were there always was something on the screen. There's also Airhockey and various Arkademachines. The prices for playing on one of them was the normal (5 NKr). About the deadlines: There was deadlines foor the music, grafic, animation, demo and intro. We missed the musicdeadline by 3 hours and now we have exceeded the deadline for the gfx, so I guess we'll soon see something on this big, white screen. If I write that the organizers had a good soundequipment, I actually mean that it could play pretty loud. But noise isn't much of a problem today, it was a lot worser yesterday... I don't like shouting to make myself understandable, you know. Well, OK, the clock is only 8.36, so maybe some of the ones who play loud music are sleeping. And that reminds me... The sleepingtent... Well, yes you could sleep. They had covered the (wet!) asphalt with tree, but the tree absorbed the water and it quickly got wet, and that was not funny. It was also overcrowded, but I slept, so I guess it was OK though. But since there was snow outside, it was cold to sleep there. Flower Child is sneezing all the time, I wonder why? HI! This is Flower Child, I just want to send some fast greetz to: Pixie/Polka Brothers, Chivas, Bluefox/Balance, Antex/Control, Christine De La Queen/Transonic, Easy/Focus Design, and all Iris members, bye. I'm back... from the toilets! Yep, only took 10 minutes to get free of my load, heh! A bit too much I guess. If you want a shower you'll also have to wait for up to 20 minutes. Some of the toilets are not working, so that does only make the situation worse. And I hadn't my new Ultra Pampers on, shit! Nah, it isn't that bad, because there was plenty of toilets on the upper floor, you just had to find them. I would also like to write something about the laserdisc room, but since I haven't seen any movies yet, it'll have to wait. Anyway, I think it's a stupid rules not to allow people to enter during the film. There's also a virtualreality machine here, it looks quite cool, but I don't know how much money they charge of people who want to try it. By the way, the power has gone 5(!) times here where I sit, but I don't think it happened for others than the occupants at this table... OK, now it's 4.47, saturday. All competitions have been shown, and I will evaluate them here: General there was one very big problem, sometimes we had to wait up to 3 hours to get on with the competitions, and I guess that the videosystem the organizers said they would use, fucked up, because they played the demos and intros from disk, causing some trouble... å1The musiccompo... å0 Fairly uninteresting, with one or two quite good mods, but else nothing spectacular. å1The animationcompo...å0 Not many competed, but some were really awesome and some were somewhat funny. å1Amigagfx...å0 Well, 40 pictures, and they were almost all of a good quality, but I guess that it was qute apparent who the best 5 were. å1PC-Intro...å0 5 intros, and really nothing special. å1PC-Demo...å0 5? demos, can't seem to remember them, soooo. Amiga-Intro... I think that the overall expression of these introes were better than at the Party III, and there will be no trouble finding the winning two. Amiga-Demo... Nice, real nice... Well, it was a bit disappointing at the start, but the last were the best. Only 11 demoes competed. The best were after my opinion Andromeda, Cryptoburners and Polka Brothers, so I guess they'll get a high note. Other good demos were the Talent demo (cool beginning!) and the Razor 1911 demo (but too short). To give a short summary and my opinion about this party: There was a lot of people, since the two other parties had been cool, so it couldn't go totally wrong. Anyway, since NOTHING got released before the compos, it was quite boring until then. Hmm, you could ofcourse talk to your contacts or play a game, buuuut. The competitions where a very welcome break in this, and without the cool productions released, this party wouldn't have been that good. On a 1-10 scale, I would give it 7-8... And I think that people think this party isn't as good as the other Gatherings, but I don't know, since I wasn't there. OK, now I will give this article and others to Zerox, and then go to sleep. I guess you can find the results somewhere in this cool mag... Greetz to all partydudes at this party!!! Darkhawk signing off... å1 Darkhawk/Iriså0
