INTERFERON PROFESSIONAL BOOT UTILITY/COPIER Typed by ??? Edited by PARASITE. Coding & Design - Lexicon Of Magnetic Fields Completion Date - 12/3/91 712 Bytes of Pure Machine Code 300 Bytes of Pure ASCII Code 12 Bytes of Pure Shit This is one of the most useful bootblock utilities around for the Amiga. It has many options including a copier and virus killer. It can be installed on any normal AmigaDOS disk without any problems. The text that follows gives a simple overview of each option, for any bug reports or update ideas, write to the address at the end of this text file. This is really an update from the ARCHAOS (Hi Coax!) Bootblock util 3.13 which I coded a few months ago. The main update being the copier, also many optimisations have been made from that code. GENERAL HINTS To continue with normal booting press the Left mouse button, or wait around 20 seconds and interferon will automatically boot. The bootblock also beeps to tell you that your left monitor speaker is working fine, this was added because mine's a bit dodgy. If no beep is heard your left speaker is also dodgy. Its nice to be welcomed by a beep anyway! The bootblock also shows the current status of Fastmem and Drives. MENU OPTIONS F1-FASTMEM OFF Turns fast memory off. It places the execbase into chipmem so utilities like DefJampacker's Megacrunch can be used as the fastmemory is completely clear, as opposed to some methods of allocating all fastmemory so it cannot be used at all. Current status is shown on screen F2-FASTMEM ON Need I say more? F3-TOGGLE DRIVES This turns on and off your external drives, thus saving that extra bit of memory that is always useful especially for ˝meg users. The current status is shown on screen at all times. F4-HARD RESET Performs a reset the equivalent of turning you machine off Also wipes everything in memory, restores memory/drives to normal state etc. F5-ECS60HZ ON For those of us lucky enough to own a Fat Agnus chip (not me!) and a monitor you can take advantage of the 60 Hertz mode included with this chip. NTSC sized screen will be magically stretched to full size PAL (Wow!). Known problems with this is the interrupts also speed up e.g. sometimes soundtracker tunes go 20% faster! Dont bother writing to me with bug reports on this option write to Commodore! F6-ECS60HZ OFF Goes back to boring 50Hz. F7-TOGGLE LED This toggles the Low Pass Filter the quality of sound produced. F8-MOVE ˝CHIP This moves the memory from 0-$3f000 to address $40000-$7f000. Why? This is handy for ripping music and pictures that reside in this low memory area and are written over by the operating system with windows etc. F9-INSTALL DF0 This installs Interferon V3.0 onto any bootblock. BEWARE only use DOS disks, I take no responsibility for you overwriting bootblock loaders on games, demos etc. F0-DISKCOPY 0 This is a very simple, but effective One Drive Copier, It takes two disk swaps to copy one disk. It loads 40 tracks off the source disk into memory then the screen flashes at this point the blank (destination disk) must be placed into df0 then the left mouse button must be pressed, and the copy carries on, when the screen flashes again the source must be placed into df0 and so on, it takes two passes to copy a disk. Be careful to keep the original write protected and the blank write enabled, so no disks are accidentally overwritten. Again, I take no responsiblity for any loss of data when using this. There are no error handling routines on the copier (what do you expect in 1K) so make sure that disks are O.K. If a write protected disk is inserted as the destination it skips a pass and your are gumphed (???). This means you need to start again!. Although this may seem a bit of a pain it is quite easy to use providing you keep to the above rules. I use it on all my disks it is really handy for disks which need back-ups a lot (i.e. source code disks), and if you cant be bothered to get X-Copy out of your disk box. After copying has finished the computer will perform a hard reset. VIRUS KILLER! As well as the features above the utility also kills all viri that use the reset vectors. If a suspicious program is found in memory then a seperate menu screen will appear. Pressing Left Mouse Button will reset the machine thus killing any possible virus. If the Right Mouse Button is pressed then the the program will go to the normal options menu leaving the possible virus in memory! A message stating a possible virus is in memory will stay on screen. Please note it is not advisable to install any disks if there is a possible virus in memory. This is because most viri will write to the disk instead of interferon. Interferon will go back to the virus menu if this happens. I would advise you to reset all the time unless you know the program is supposed to be there e.g. Pseudo Ops Virus Killer, Romcrack, Resmon etc (Any memory resident utilities) I hope you will find this utility useful, I have spent quite a while developing it on and off under various groups, the list of released versions is as follows: InnerCity Boot Util 3.4 InnerCity Boot Util 4.0 Technix Bootkiller 1.0 (shortlived group!) Archaos Virus-Slayer 2.46 Archaos Virus-Slayer 3.06 Archaos Virus-Slayer 3.12 Archaos Virus-Slayer 3.13 If you use any of these, I suggest you overwrite them with this utility as it is much improved. If, Any bugs are found (Aaaaaaargh!), You are an experienced coder (i.e. not a beginner) Update Ideas spring to mind, You want the latest version, You know if the plural of virus is viri or virum?, You have an endless supply of money, Then write to: Peter 7 Newman St Latchford Warrington Cheshire WA4 1TR ENGLAND End.
