Brief Idea Of The Game
----------------------

The idea of the game is to buy, rent or sell properties profitably so
that players increase their wealth. The game is computer controlled
and all, accounting adding and deducting money is done by the
computer. Starting from 'GO' the player counters are moved around the
board, the number of places moved depend on the number shown on the
dice. When a player's counter lands on a space that is not already
owned, he/she may buy if from the bank, otherwise it is auctioned off
where every player has a chance to buy it. The advantage of owning
property is to collect rent from opponents stopping there. The rent
of a property can be greatly increase by buying houses and hotels on
the property. If you are short of cash you can mortgage some of your
properties to raise money. On the board there are "Community Chest"
and "Chance" card squares, landing on one of these squares will
bring up a card on the screen displaying wether to collect money, pay
money or move to somewhere else on the board.

Starting the Game
-----------------

When the game begins you will be asked how many players are
playing, and after entering the number of players playing you will be
asked their names and then which counters they will be using.
After entering this information the main screen should appear, on
which you will see the amount of money in the account of the players
who's turn it currently is. On starting the game, every player
 playing begins with £1500.
By pressing the space bar the player who's turn it currently is can
take his/her turn. After pressing the space bar you will see two
numbers appear in the box marked "DICE", the players counter will be
moved the number of squares shown on the two dice. After he/she has
completed his/her play, the next player will have his/her turn.
According to the space which his/her counter reaches, a player may
be entitled to buy Building Sites or other properties, or may be
obliged to pay rent (if another player owns the property), pay taxes,
draw a "Chance" or "Community Chest" card, "Go to Jail", ect.
Players can not buy any properties, collect money, and do not have
to pay any money until they have been round the board once. If a
player throws doubles (both dice have the same number) he/she moves
his/her counter as usual, pays any penalties on the space he/she
reaches or can buy the property if it is not already bought and then
takes another go. If the player gets three doubles in succession,
he/she will then be transported straight to jail and his/her turn
 will end.
Every time a players counter passes over 'GO' he/she will receive
 £200 from the bank.

Landing On Unowned Property
---------------------------

When a player lands on an unowned property (ie. on a property
that no other player owns) a card displaying information about that
property (ie. rent, mortgage, prices of houses, hotels) will be shown
on the screen and he/she will be given the choice of buying the
property. The cost of the property will be displayed and the player
will be asked if he/she would want to buy the property or not.
If the player chooses to buy the property, the property will be added
to his/her property list and the price of the property will be
 deducted from his/her account.
If the player does not want the property, the property will then be
auctioned off to the highest bidder. The screen will change and the
auction screen will be displayed. Under the title you will see the
name of the property being auctioned, underneath which there is a
rectangular box, in which is displayed how much money each player is
bidding. Each player is allocated two keys, one to raise the amount
of money the player is bidding and one to decrease the amount of
money the player is bidding. The keys each player will use are
displayed under the money each player is bidding and to identify
which players keys are which, the player counters will be displayed
 next to the keys.
When the bidding starts you will notice bars begin to rise as you bid
higher and higher. These bars show how much of his/her total amonut
of money each player is bidding (if the bar if is fully up then the
player is bidding all of his/her money, if the bar if only half up
then the player is only bidding half of his/her money, ect.). The
auction is timed and the player who has bid the highest when the time
runs out, will buy the auctioned property for the amount they bid.
The amount of time remaining is displayed on the top right corner of
 the screen.

Landing On Owned Property
-------------------------

When a player lands on owned property either by throw of dice or by a
move forced by a "Community Chest" or "Chance" card, the owner of the
property can then take rent from him/her in accordance with the rent
list printed on the Title Deed card which can be seen when you buy
the property or by selecting the property from "view" in the
"property" menu. A message will come on the screen reminding the
player that you have landed on someone's property and the rent due
will be displayed, which then will be deducted from his/her account
and put in the owners account. Note, if the property is mortgaged no
rent will have to be paid. Double rent can also be collect if the
player owns all the properties in that colour-group and if any of the
properties are not mortgaged. Rent can only be collect from stations
and utilities that are not mortagaed (ie. a player holding four
stations but with one mortgaged can only collect £100 not £200).

Advantages For Owners
---------------------

It is an advantage to buy properties for all the sites of a complete
Colour-Group because the owner can then charge double rent for
unimproved sites of that property. Houses can only built on sites of
a complete Colour-Group owned. The advantages of owning Houses and
Hotels rather than unimproved property (property on which you have
not bought houses or hotels on) is that rentals are very much
higher than for unimproved sites and profit the owner immensely. It
is also advisable to buy the stations because the more stations you
own, the higher the rent is and also the utilities (Water Works and
Electricity Company) are quite profitable too.

Landing on "Community Chest" Or "Chance"
----------------------------------------

On the board there are "Community Chest" and "Chance" card squares,
landing on one of these squares will bring up a card on the screen
displaying wether to collect money, pay money or move to somewhere
else on the board. If you get a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card you can
keep this and get out of jail free the next time you go to jail.

Landing On Tax Spaces
---------------------

When you land on a pay tax space a message will appear on the screen
indicating that you have to pay tax, the amount shown will be taken
from your account and put in the tax bank.

Landing On "Free Parking"
------------------------

When you land on "Free Parking" you will receive all the money if
there is any in the tax bank.

Jail
----

A player lands in jail :-

(1). If his/her counter lands on the space marked "GO TO JAIL"
(2). If he/she gets a "Community Chest" or "Chance" card marked "GO
 TO JAIL"
(3). If he/she throws doubles three times in succession.

When a player is sent to jail his/her turn ends there. He/she cannot
collect £200 in that move, regardless of where his/her counter is or
of the path of the board, his/her counter will be moved directed to
 jail.
If a player is not sent to jail but in the ordinary course of play
lands on that space then he/she is just "visiting jail", and does not
 have to pay any penalty.

A player gets out of jail :-

(1). By throwing doubles on any of his/her next three turns after
landing in jail. If he/she succeeds in doing this he/she immediately
will be moved forward the number of spaces shown on the dice and then
 will get another go.
(2). By using one of his/her "Get Out Of Jail Free" cards if got any.
(3). By paying £50 fine after going to jail.
If a player chooses to (1) from above and does not get doubles within
three turn of the dice then £50 will automatically taken from his/her
account. Then he/she will be free to go.

The "choose property screen"
----------------------------

This screen comes up when you choose something from the property and
build menu and it allows you to choose which one of you properties
you want to sell, build on, mortgage, ect. On this screen you will
see a list of your properties displayed at the top of the screen. To
choose which property you want to sell, build on, mortgage, ect. move
the brown bar by pressing the space bar until you come to the
property you require and then press enter. You will only be able to
choose properties which are in a black background. You can quit from
 this screen by pressing Escape.

When you want to build, sell houses or hotels the properties which
are behind a red bar are the ones which you can not build houses or
hotels on, ie. the stations and utilities.
The properties which are in a blue background :-

When you want to build houses are the properties for which you
have not bought the complete colour group or the ones on which you
have already bought four houses, or a hotel on.

When you want to build hotels are the properties for which you
have not bought the complete colour group, the ones on which you have
not bought four houses or the ones on which you have already bought
 hotels on.

When you want to sell houses these are the properties for which you
have not bought houses on, or the ones on which you have bought
hotels on any one of the colour group.

When you want to sell hotels these are the properties for which you
 have not bought hotels on.

When wanting to sell a property to the bank or another player, swap
properties with another player or buy a property off another player
are the one's on which you have built houses or hotels on, or on a
 property in their colour gorup.

When wanting to mortgage these are the properties which you have
already mortgaged or the ones where you have built houses or hotels
 on.

When wanting to take the mortgage off these are the properties which
 have not been mortgaged.

Building Houses And Hotels
--------------------------

You may only build houses on properties which you own the complete
colour group (ie Mayfair and Park Lane or The Strand, Fleet Street
and Trafalgar Square). To build houses choose "houses" from the
"build" menu then the player's name who wants to build houses from
the sub-menu. You then will be confronted by the usual "choose
property screen" from which you can choose which property you want
 to build houses on.
After you have chosen the property you wish to build on you will be
asked how many houses you want to build. If you require one house
then one house will be built on the chosen property and the cost of
the house will be deducted from you account. If you want more than
one house, then the amount of houses you want will be equally divided
amongst the colour group and the cost of the houses will be deducted
from your account. You can only buy upto four houses on a property
and they must be maintained evenly, ie you can not build three houses
on one property if you only have one house on another property of the
 same colour group.
You may only build hotels on property that you have got four houses
on. To build hotels on four house properties, choose hotels from
the build menu then the player who wants to build hotels from the
sub-menu. You then will be confronted by the usual "choose property
screen" from which you can choose which property you want to build a
hotel on. After you have chosen the property you wish to build on you
will be asked how many hotels you want to build. If you require one
hotel then one hotel will be built on the chosen property and the
cost of the hotel will be deducted from your account. If you want
more than one hotel, then the amount of hotels you want will be
equally divided amongst the colour group and the cost of the hotels
will be deducted from your account.

Selling Property
----------------

Undeveloped properties, Railway Stations and Utilities (but not
properties on which there are houses or hotels built) can be sold to
another player as a private transaction for any amount or to the
bank for half the price of the property. No property, however can be
sold to another player or to the bank if houses/hotels are standing
on any sites of that colour group. Any building so situated must be
sold back to the bank before the owner can sell any property on that
colour group. Mortgaged property can only be sold to other players
not to the bank. Houses and hotels may be sold by players to the bank
only, this may be done at any time and the bank will half of the
price paid for them. Selling property to another player can only be
done only when it's the turn of the player who wants to sell his/her
property. After choosing "sell to" from the "property" menu and the
players name who you want to sell the property to from the sub-menu,
you will be confronted by a list of the players properties from which
can be selected the property the player wants to sell and then all
that is left to do is to follow the screen instructions. Selling
property can also be done by selecting "buy off" and the players name
you wish to buy the property off from the "property" menu, which
allows you to buy property from another player. Also you can swap
properties with another player by choosing "swap with" and the
players name from the sub-menu who you wish to swap your property
with from the "property" menu. After choosing "swap with", two
property select screens will come up one after the other, on which
you must select the property you want to swap and the property the
other player wants to swap with you. Then you will be asked how much
money each player will be paying on top, if you are paying nothing
just enter in 0 and then follow the screen instructions.

Selling Houses
--------------

Houses can be sold to the bank by choosing "sell houses" from the
"property" menu. A choose property screen should come up and display
a property list of the chosen player. Then just follow the screen
instructions after choosing the property on which you want to sell
 houses.

Selling Hotels
--------------

Same as selling houses but select "sell hotel" instead of "sell
 houses"

Mortgages
---------

Mortgaging properties can be done through the bank only. The mortgage
value of property is printed on each Title Deed card (shown when you
buy the property or when you select view from the "property" menu).
The rate of interest is 10 per cent, payable when the mortgage is
lifted. If any property is transferred which is mortgaged, the new
owner still has to pay 10 per cent interest to lift the mortgage.
Properties which contain houses/hotels, or houses/hotels on any of
it's colour-group cannot be mortgaged. In order to build houses or
collect rent on mortgaged property the owner must lift the mortgage
first (pay the bank the amount of mortgaged, plus 10 per cent
 interest).
To mortgage property choose "mortgage" from the "property menu" and
the player's name who wants to mortgage property from the sub-menu.
The usual "choose property screen" should come up and display a list
of the chosen players properties. After choosing the required
property the amount the bank will pay the player will be shown and
the amount the player will have to pay back will be shown, then just
 follow the screen instructions.
To take the mortgage off a mortgaged property choose "Unmortgage"
from the "property" menu and the player's name who wants to take the
mortgage off his/her mortgaged property, from the sub-menu. The usual
"choose property screen" should come up and display a list of the
chosen players properties. After choosing the required property the
amount the player will have to pay will be shown, then just follow
 the screen instructions.

Bankruptcy
----------

The bankruptcy screen will come up when any player is bankrupt, that
is, one who owes more than he can pay. The amount the player owes
will be shown and also his option's. The player has a choice then of
selling or mortgaging his/her property. He/she will also have the
choice of selling his/her houses or hotels and also the choice of
quitting the game. The amount the player owes can be reduced by
selling his/her assets (houses, hotels, properties ect.). The
bankruptcy screen will stay on until the player raises enough money
to clear his/her dept. If the player cannot clear his/her dept. then
he/she will have to quit the game.

The Winner
----------

The winner of the game is the player left playing after everyone
else is out of the game.

Loading And Saving Games
-------------------------

You can save the games when you are in the middle of them, so you can
finish them off later by choosing "save" from the disk menu. You then
will be shown the AMOS Monopoly file selecter where you can choose
what file name you want to save the game under. On the left you
should see a list of the current games saved on the disk. To select a
name from the list click the mouse on the Up and Down arrows and the
list should begin to scroll up/down. The selected file is
 highlighted.
To select this file you then will have to click on the "OK" icon
which will then save the game under your chosen name. If you wish to
choose your own name then click on the "Save As" icon and type in the
name you wish to save the game under, then press enter and then click
on the "OK" icon. You can quit from the file selector by clicking on
