Changes to V4.2 (04/06/94) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- * New jam.library. Corrected problem with not all memory being returned on an expunge. * New sybil.library. Improved real MAC floppy drive handling. * New Converter software with proper support for real MAC floppy drives. * Re-wrote startup completely. We now leave the caches in their last state during the bootup (loading of EXTENTIONS/INITS/etc.). The result is a 3-5 times quicker startup. * Corrected problems with 030 cache control. * Corrected an age old 'quirk'. Many people reported that often times their screen would boot in the default video mode (b&w). This was normal. Anytime the MAC's display information changes, the video mode is reset to the 'default' setup. So, if the memory location where the video driver is loaded was different from the last time the emulation was ran, the driver would come with the default settings (B&W). * Corrected problem with the 'ADD' function of the SOUND control panel. * Corrected problem when selecting MONITORS in Snooper v2.0. * Forced 24/32 bit mode gadgets ghosted/unghosted depending on setup. * Added 24 bit launcher script. * Finally tracked down the audio/video syncronization quirk. Playing exceptionally long quicktime movies (more than 5 minutes long) no longer loses the audio-to-video syncronization! * Corrected interface problem with OPTION-B and BASIC EMPLANT hardware systems. Because neither of these boards have the serial option, the PORT A and PORT B setup options ended up 'stuck' on Amiga Parallel. You can now choose not to use ANY serial or parallel support, so that no serial and parallel device drivers are used. This also frees the EMPLANT's serial port for other functions. * Corrected 'iconify' font problem. The iconify window was not font sensative. It is now. Also, now when you move the window to a new location on WorkBench, it's position is remembered as part of the config file. After positioning the window where you want it, shut down the emulation and SAVE the configuration. The next time you restart the emulation and iconify, the window will be in the last place you put it. * Corrected ADB driver bug. The 'n' and 'm' keys were being passed through when they were not suppose to. * We have ALL new video drivers. We also now have multiple monitor support! You can select up to 6 video drivers (the same driver or different ones...mix and match as you please) for the MAC to use as it's monitors. If you have a 3rd party video board, you can have multiple DIRECT drivers (different sizes even). However, until the programmers of these video boards provide a way to allocate() memory on the video board permanently (so nothing else will ever use the memory), there will be some quirks when multiple monitors are opened. So far, the EGS boards do not seem to have a problem (EGS-Spectrum, Piccolo, and Rainbow II/III) with multiple monitors.. the Merlin and Retina also appear to work properly. So far, just the Picasso II board has problems having more than one MAC screen open at a time. We are looking into this problem (it might be because we are using beta software from VillageTronics). The selection of video drivers has changed. You will now see a list of available drivers. If a driver does not appear in the list, it is because your system is not setup to use it! (ie, no video drivers requiring the MMU will show up if the MMU has not been setup). Select up to 6 drivers (you can select the same driver). * Created -=FAST=- system level video drivers for all video boards and Amiga video. These new video drivers (indicated by having 'QD' in the driver name) are VERY fast, even faster than the drivers using the MMU for video refreshing! The only drawback of using these drivers is the fact that MAC system level drawing routines are used, meaning that game programs (or any application poking the display hardware directly) will likely fail. We still have the standard drivers that will give you 100% video compatibility, but the new drivers are a blessing for those without an MMU! * Re-wrote all refreshed video drivers. Some video boards are now nearly 3 times faster in the higher color modes (16/32 bit color modes). * Changed refresh rate usage. Now, you can only change the refresh rate while the emulation is running, not before. The first time you run the emulation, it will use the normal default of 60 FPS. You can change the refresh to the setting you like and after shutting down, SAVE the configuration. The next time you restart the emulation, the refresh rate will be what you set it to last. * Added auto screen flip to the Retina video driver. There is no longer a 'click me here' screen for activation. Also, you can now use the Retina driver successfully with the RetinaEMU. * Added 16 bit video support for the Merlin video board. * Added OpalVision support. It's slow, but it works! We would recommend using a low refresh rate (20 FPS) and an AmigaVideo driver along with the OpalVision driver. You could use the AmigaVideo driver for the menus, hard drive access, etc. and the OpalVision screen for the higher end screen modes (16/32 bit modes) where speed does not matter (like with PhotoShop). * Added A2410 Video board support. Make sure that your defaults are setup in your ToolType for 1024x768 only... no other resolutions can be used with the emulation. * Added 832x624 direct video drivers for EGS-Spectrum and Piccolo video boards. Please understand that custom screenmodes must be created in order to use these drivers. CREATION OF IMPROPER MODES CAN DESTROY YOUR MONITOR!! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CREATE A CUSTOM SCREEN MODE USING THE EGS-DISPLAY ADJUST PROGRAM, *DON'T* EVEN THINK ABOUT EXPERIMENTING!!!!!! Y O U H A V E B E E N W A R N E D ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! The screenmode name for the EGS-Spectrum must be exactly like this: LEGSa:VGA 832x624 The screenmode name for the Piccolo board must be exactly like this: PICOa:VGA 832x624
