Mondaymorning, da 5th of April 1999 dear friends, I am very happy to inform you that I've finally managed to get my beloved A1200 into da Infinitiv Tower that has been waiting since October last year. Da internal discdrive is not yet connected bcoz da original A1200 cable is far too short. Appearantly it also means that none of da external drives want to work, but I'm positive about it. It seems that a normal IDE cable is da same as an Amiga floppy cable. An Infinitiv Tower is standard only equipped with a bay for one floppy and one harddrive, but I had no problems getting my seccond hd a safe place into da system. But there's one annoying problem. At da back of da tower there's a connector for a PC keyboard, and at da same fair where I got da tower I also got a very cool PC windows-keyboard with little loudspeakers on each end, and da coolest about it is da one and only original C= Commodore name on it !!! Very cool, but da problem is that dis keyboard turned out to be french-style and therefor AZERTY and not da QWERTY that I was used to. Now I have to learn a lot of keys again, bcow typing blind is now very hard to do, but ofcoz not impossible. About da tower again, it's not easy to fit da turboboard when it also has a scsi controller on with additional memorymodule, like my 64 Mb single sided EDO module. I had to use a bit of force to convince da tower of my intentions, but now it fits. When I think a bit about da scsi controller, it's easy to remove it and put a kind of IDE Catweasel-like controller on da motherboard and connect yar IDE cdroms or cdwriter to it. But that's just an idea ... And I still need to get a new cdwriter ... And da stuff that was going to be burned on my new cd (that never came) is also still waiting on my harddisc ... Friday da 23rd of da same month. I'm trying to get used to a windows keyboard, but it sounds easier than it really is !! But besides that little detail I have got very great news to tell : I've got a new cd-writer !!!! Actually it's not new but in fact two years old, but if it works then I'm happy enuff !!! It's a Philips CD2600, again a Philips. First I wanted to buy a brandnew Plextor that would cost me 750 DM, but then da salesman told me that his friend wanted to sell his older writer bcow he already got a newer and much faster one. But speed is not sumthing that I care for. It's not that I'm burning 50 cd's each day !!! At da moment I still need to test it, but in case it works then dis note is already on it !! Okay, that's it for now. Sorry that it has been more than four months since my last cd, so I shall try to burn two new ones that I had already ready waiting on my harddisc. See ya dudes !!! Effy / Guardian Angels. PS : it's Sundaymorning now, and I am not exactly happy to announce that my so called 'new' writer didn't work. I paid 250 DM for it, but lucky for me I got my money back and used it to order a brandnew un-used Plextor writer that will cost me 750 DM, but then at least I don't have to worry about da quality of dis product, at least I hope not ... Dis CD2600 gave da same error as my older CD2000, a so called 'Power Calibration Error' that would be caused by 'Wrong WO medium, Laser Failure, Drive Failure'. Da WO (Write Only) is not da problem here, bcoz I've tried 3 brandnew empty cd's. So da problem has to be in da writer. Da salesman suggested that da problem might also be in my hardware system but wouldn't that be too hard to believe ? I have used da demo version of MakeCD without using an illegal registration code, and MakeCD has got special drivers for both da Philips CD2000 and CD2600, so it's not that my amiga tries to burn sumthing on a so called unknown writer ... I've also noticed that MakeCD has got a driver for da Plextor, so hopefully no problem there. I also question if da problem might be in MakeCD but that would be weird, considering da fact that all my other cd's have been burned using da same program ... PS2 : Sundayevening. At da moment my amiga is creating mpeg2 modules from my double cd of 'New Wave - Club Classics', older tunes but very cool ! Tuesday very early morning at 4 am. Just got up for da morning shift and I first need to check my new mpeg2 files bfor I go downstairs for my hot breakfast. It will be da leftovers from yesterday's dinner with sum orange juice and sangria, yeah, early in da morning ... PS3 : Thursdayevening with loads of sunshine outside, and maybe for a change in my room too. Dis afternoon I got my new Plextor, a re-writer 4/2/20. Four times write, two times rewrite, and twenty times read. Da one that I ordered was an older model, but da dude from da computershop could lay his hands on a newer model at a even cheaper price, about 700 DM. Now I only need to test dis baby and hope that it'll work ... see ya dudes !!!! PS4 : Last PS ! It's Fridayafternoon, last day of April. Da writer works for sure, but at da moment I can only write at single speed bcoz MakeCD doesn't have a specific driver, so I had to use another driver to make it work. But hey, it works !! My first cd will be called EFFY15 and I've got enuff stuff ready to burn EFFY16 and EFFY17. When that is done I can start clearing my harddrives. Then I have to continue exploring da crunched stuff on two illegal cd's, later on three cd's that Almighty God mailed me last year, and then da cd's that I got from him two months ago. Meanwhile I shall have to order da new Aminet Pack (4 cd's) ... And where is my project to print T-shirts ??!! And my project to work on a amiga demo ??!! And da 64 demo ??!! Gosh I hope to have all dis done bfor I die ... yar pal, Effy / Guardian Angels.
