Text FAQ: --------- Q: WHY the heck do I sit here and type something about music? A: Because there was a "nice" discussion on #amielite today [7/7/97]. Q: Why should it be of interest for other readers? A: Dunno. Maybe some others think like you. Or not. Or both. Or blblbl. :D They should read it, when they are interested in music, otherwise NOT! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, where shall i start? Hm... Lets start at the beginning (the reason, why i'm writing this.) It all started on IRC, channel #amielite. I've met some german pals of mine and we have discussed about music. Then about the new PRODIGY ALBUM (The fat from the Land). The discussion was completely in GERMAN language (thats the 2nd reason, why im typin this, for others, that were on IRC too but couldn't understand the discussion). Well, then one guy said (no names will be spoken out here), lets call him [1] "Prodigy is commercial" and "Prodigy WAS good years before the new album was released". I have to say that i've said before the new album is 100% cool and that it kicks butt. That was the main "starter" of the Discussion. And that was not ok to me, because i've heard the whole Album and MY opinion was (and is), that the Album is 100% Prodigy and not 100% commercial. Then i've said some- thing like this "Prodigy has managed it, NOT to get commercial for all the years, when they started to have sucess with their song "charly"". Then [1] said "They are commercial or don't you listen to the radio or don't you watch TV ??" Then i've said "Man, your horizon isn't such big, when you let yourself manipulate from the MASS-MEDIA". Then another guy, we call him [2], said "Yeah, thats my opinion too" and "There are hundreds of GOOD musicans all over the globe and they all getn't great with their music like other stars do" and "Commerical for me is, when DJ BOBO sings about happiness and peace on the globe with standard fuck-up beats and music and so on" and "these are the fat commercials, who only want to make the FAT money with their music" and "If this is ok to them, they should make money with their music" and then he said to [1] "Wouldn't you make money with your music if you have the possibility to?". And at this point, i've said "EXACT, thats the point. there are SO MUCH GOOD MUSICANS OUT THERE and they haven't released anything yet (like a record or so). Coz the most of them don't have the possibility to do so. (And trust me, its not easy to get in contact with record-companies, even little ones, i'm musican. I know what i'm talking about. The fact is: The record companys has big chests, where they throw in all tapes and they're only listening to 10 out of 1000 tapes). [...] The discussion continued and [2] and myself have tried to make it clear to [1] that PDY isn't commercial and beeing commercial isnt a fault coz any one who has the possibilty to earn money with his music would do so, even if his music is COMMERCIAL. And this statement is OUR opinion, i'll say it twice: "ITS OUR OPINION". This guy ([1]) has answered with BOLD and UNDERLINED TEXT and said "PRODIGY IS COMMERCIAL AND THEY WERE GOOD YEARS AGO AND NOW THEY ARE SHIT AND ONLY COMMERCIAL". PIFF! At this time (several other guys have followed the discussion so far and said something to it, but that isn't important yet) i got REAL pissed. Okay, everyone has HIS own opinion, but F**k, is it too heavy to say "THIS IS MY F***ING OPINION" ??? Thats why i'm so pissed. Trust me, i'm NOT the guy who says that MY opinion is the right one or the only one, which is correct. But i hate guys who say "THIS IS SO" and without <-- "thats MY opinion". Before that i've said to [2] " EVERYONE IS AN ORIGINAL " and [2] understood me. But [1] not.... Well... What i wanted to say with this is "EVERYONE HAS HIS OWN OPINION AND MANY MORE" ( "Everyone is an original" says more, but at this point it was the main-reason for me to say it and i thought that the other ones understood me.... well then... some did not...) The discussion ended, because [1] said "lets stop it". And i was so angry that i've said "well, no! lets discuss it!" Music - in my opinion - THE ONLY DRUG. Music is component of our daily life, it is with us all the time (most of the time) and even if we are in nature there is music (like singing birds and stuff...) I'm not stupid, many muscians may think of music like i do. 2. There are thousand, 100 thousands of musicans all over the globe. Good ones, not so good ones, and REAL worse ones. But all of them have one thing together - THE MUSIC - This guys are doing good music, and its equal what a style it is, they're doing THEIR music. It can be Heavy-metal, Techno, Rap, Industrial, Classics, Dancefloor or whatever. And this guys are doing not so good or worse music, but again its equal what a style - THEY DO THEIR MUSIC. And most of them love doing music - some more - some less - some not. 3. There are the FANS, a big community that holds music alive and to- gether. Equal to what the fans like or how many fans an artist has, they exist and they love their bands, acts etc.... 4. The most important point - YOU CANT PUT MUSIC IN ONE BOX AND SAY " THIS IS CRAP or THIS IS GOOD or F**K THIS or WHATEVER " Its just YOUR OPINION and you have to say that its your opinion. If you dont do so, you have to learn how to get a-life. Really. Thats my FU****G --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enuff of spoken words.....
