kickstart/ram ram-handler will now use pools for most memory allocations. This should fix many fragmentation complaints. ExNext/ExAll should never again die if a delete for the examined object happens. Integrated olsen's fix for file size handling. lock handling should be much safer now and even protected against (broken) manual lock copies. Notification should hopefully happen wherever it is supposed to happen. Froze 44.4. I broke makelink for hardlinks. This should be fixed again now. A few notification issues should also be resolved now. Notification on hardlinks will not work as it should. I won't touch this right now as the link code is pretty messy to deal with. Trying to delete an empty root dir should no longer behave in unexpected ways. Froze 44.5. I broke relabel of the ram disk along the way. Should be fixed now. Froze 44.6. fl_Key should once again point to a unique object descriptor to fix software that wants a unique *and* persistent fl_Key value. Froze 44.7. Some cleanup work on memory allocations. Also, the handler should be less restrictive about filename lengths now. Froze 44.9. I broke ExNext(). It should now work again as it is supposed to work, meaning it should also be a lot more robust against people fiddling with the "current" file. Froze 44.10. After some work to kill enforcer hits etc, I have turned on experimental support for soft links. Why? because someone nagged. Not that I personally think that softlinks work well right now. Note that some important CLI commands and dos.library itself do not support soft links in a reasonably usable way. If this doesn't do the trick for you, bad luck. At this point of time, this is really untested. It doesn't generate hits and seems to behave relatively normal. But it has not been and most likely will not be tested well. Soft links are fairly broken in general and simply turning them on in some subsystem won't fix the whole issue. So don't anyone ever complain. To really get working soft links, a heck of a lot of work needs to be done. BTW, the Guru-Book is right in that soft links are pretty messy, but the description does not really match the implementation. Soft links are not supported. Have fun and don't complain. Froze 44.11. Due to the way pools work, freeing files was very slow. It is now fast again. I basically reworked most of the handler to use Exec lists internally, which allowed me to rewrite the core delete loop in a very simple way. I also retired some assembly code which was hard to maintain and went back to the corresponding C versions. Obviously, this is *A*MAJOR*CHANGE*. Everything has changed. So please retest directory handling, links, files, dirs and their behaviour on rename, delete, etc. TEST THIS! Froze 44.12. I had broken ACTION_SET_FILE_SIZE in a very bad way. Froze 44.13. I had broken ExNext. In a high load enironment, a NULL pointer was used, causing a hit. The handler also no longer messes up its own DOS device node now. Froze 44.15. If you tried to create a file with a name referring to an existing soft link, bad things happened. Froze 44.16. Trying to access a softlink could result in a hit. Froze 44.17. The handler should now handle the R/W/A protection bits better. R/W wasn't really handled at all. Froze 44.18. ACTION_RENAME didn't handle notification well. Notification should also work better for some parent directories. Froze 44.19. Notification for parent directories and hardlinks should work as expected now. Froze 44.21. The memory pool size is now 64KB. Together with the new improved pools that are *not* integrated into the ram-handler, this should give you a good mileage on both fragmentation and speed. Froze 44.22. Relabeling RAM could seriously crash the machine. Froze 44.23.
