Directory Opus 4 Manifest==================================================== 2.1.2000 "Oh", I hear you groan. "Someone else has decided to change everything." Yes thats true I have changed a lot and added some things. But the best part about the GPL is that *you* have the right to change any or all of it too. First I'd like to say a huge thanks to Jacek because he has implemented things I never would have even thought of, in a source tree that is far from easy to navigate in. The most significant things I've done are (and they arent that much in light of what Jacek has done): 1. Changed back to SAS/C The reason for this is twofold. First I own SAS/C and am very familiar with it. Secondly, I already have vbcc installed and I dont want to install yet another compiler. On the list to do is to make the sources compilable on any compiler. That is already being worked on, so dont panic about suddenly not being able to compile these sources. Vbcc also supports PowerPC and I do intend to make a PowerPC version of Directory Opus 4 (although not right now!). 2. Added large integer (64 bit) maths support. 64 bit integers are not supported directly in SAS/C, but with a small linker library they can be used (albeit not as simply as typing 'long long' in GCC). This version of Directory Opus 4 is working fine on my machine (A4000/060, 40Megs RAM, OS 3.9) and on another machine (A3000/040, 12Megs RAM, OS3.5). And when I say fine, I mean no crashes, blemishes whatever (IN THE FUNCTIONS THAT I USE. AND I DONT USE THEM ALL). So before you start saying "Oh changing compilers has just busted the whole thing, or that guys an idiot", remember that I never would have released anything that didnt at least work on my own machine. Maybe there is a problem, also maybe its in some area of Directory Opus 4 that I dont use, or maybe its an obscure problem that only shows up under certain conditions. For example, I run Directory Opus 4 on its own true colour screen, even though I see some people have reported graphics being trashed when returning from Workbench - that has just never happened to me. Others report that the icon module crashes the second time its used - its never happened to me. Im not saying there arent problems with this version, just that I havent got any problems and I use Directory Opus 4 a fair bit. Please report any and all problems with good descriptions. Its no use saying "it crashes". We need to know under what conditions is it crashing, whats running in the background?, what other patches are running? and are there any other conflicts that might give trouble. Bugs are best reported to the mailing list at http://www.egroups.com/lists/opus4 and not emailed to me directly. You may also find someone else has found out the reason for your problem or be able to get some assitance there. I also havent had any enforcer hits with this version (since Ive fixed a few minor things). But there still may be some (most likely). The major intention of this release is to ensure that I have translated everything thats need be correctly into its modified form as well as fixing a few enforcer hits not to add any new features. If this one is ok, features will follow. I sincerely hope everyone can make use of this version of Directory Opus 4.
