  1. Why do both the original OS 3.5 CD installation and Boing Bag 1 have the same version number (44.2)?

Q: Why do both the original OS 3.5 CD installation and Boing Bag 1 have the same version number (44.2)?
A: The updated version.library (44.4) intended for inclusion in Boing Bag 1 was accidentally ommitted. Boing Bag 2 will have a new version.library number to reflect its changes. [Olaf Barthel]

Q: What do the new C: commands "Group" and "Owner" do? They aren't covered in the manual.
A: Group and Owner let you alter the owner/group flags in filesystems that support this. They used to be part of AS225 and Envoy. Note that the OS 3.5 "List" command now also supports users/groups options. [Kolbjørn Barmen]

There are more new features in other shell commands; List now has a sort option:
List sort N = sort name
List sort S = sort size
List sort D = sort date

Q: What is the new C: command "CAPrefs"?
A: CAPrefs was the "IPrefs add-on" required for the "ClassAct" GUI. As ClassAct has been integrated into the OS (now called "ReAction") and the functionality of CAPrefs is now handled by IPrefs, CAPrefs is replaced by a dummy file.

Q: ClassAct was already installed on my system. What happened to "CAPrefs" and the "ClassAct" prefs editor?
A: They are replaced with dummy files by the OS 3.5 installer and are no longer needed. OS 3.5's "ReAction" is the successor of ClassAct, and the prefs are initialized via the normal "IPrefs" command that is in your S-Sanyway. You can safely remove the "CAPrefs" command from your S-S or U-S and delete the "ClassAct" prefs editor.

Q: After installation of Boing Bag 1, the printing is somehow suddenly disrupted. It prints the entire page in a small block, only prints some garble at the top left edge, etc.--what happened?
A: The Boing Bag 1 printer drivers are broken. Re-install the drivers from the CD, they work fine. These problems have been fixed in Boing Bag 2. [Gregory Donner]

A: This is a bug in OS 3.5. Whenever an icon operation (e.g. the updating of YAM's mailbox status appicon, or when you insert/remove a disk) collides with an input/GUI event (moving/opening/closing/dragging a window etc.) [Xavier Messersmith].

While there is no current workaround, this has been fixed in Boing Bag 2. You can temporarily remove YAM's appicon (depending on your mail lookup interval, this is the main reason for countless freezes).

The only way around it is to carefully handle the Amiga whenever an appicon appears, disappears, or changes, i.e. leave the mouse on its mat for a moment and don't press its buttons.

Q: I've just installed OS 3.5. Do I need just Boing Bag 2, or do I need to download and install Boing Bag 1 & 2 sequentially (i.e. in numerical order) to update my OS 3.5 installation?
A: Although some files are common in both, the official word is that you are required to download and install--separately and in numerical order--both Boing Bags to correctly update your OS 3.5 installation.

Q: Amiga Inc. announced that OS 3.9 is to be released before Christmas this year. Are Boing Bag 2 and OS 3.9 the same thing?
A: No. Boing Bag 2 is a bug-update fix only, whereas OS 3.9 will contain lots of new features.

Q: How do the new printer device selection options work in Printer Prefs, and what is the "unit name"?
A:
  • Select a different unit (via "Printer Device Unit" cycle-gadget).
  • Choose the Printer Type (which is actually the printer driver--don't know why they called it Printer Type) and select "Parallel" from the "Printer Port" cycle-gadget (make sure "Use custom device" is unchecked).

You're done. Note that this does have a drawback in that the Amiga printer.device doesn't know the "Standard printer" like Microsoft Windows does, so you'll only be able to print to the first printer unit (#0) as long as the program that sends the print-job doesn't support the new printer.device. You can give each printer.device unit (0 to 9) a name. Programs that support the printer.device v44 will show you this name (unit name) in their "print document" dialog. A: It's a bug in Workbench, and has been fixed in at least OS 3.9 (possibly OS 3.5 Boing Bag 2 as well).

A: One of the ReAction gadgets is buggy; but the problem has been reported, and may already be fixed for Boing Bag 2 and OS 3.9.
