Hardware: Amiga 4000 Cyberstorm PPC 604e-233Mhz with 68060-60Mhz Ariadine II Ethernet Network Card Software: Miami v3.2b MiamiInit Netconnect v3 Products (Not Genisis) STEP 1. How do I get my Motorola CyberSUFER WAVE & Bigpond Working on Amiga? --------------------------------------------------------------------- First step, this is very very important, please read carefully. a) If you have had your Cable Modem hooked up to any other system other than your amiga, please turn off that system and press the reset button at the back of your modem with a ballpoint pen. b) The cable modem comes with an FT connector which plugs into the wall socket, make sure that the cable guy checks that the cable is outputting the correct signal, if too much or too little the amplifiers must be adjusted. This could hamper performance ie. Line noise, etc. It also comes with a CAT 5 Cable (RJ45), plug this into the back of your modem and in your ethernet card (RJ45 Socket). c) Ok now those steps are done its time to turn on your amiga... (poof... just joking..) d) Very first step is to delete any configuration that you might have already saved with miami, such as miami.default, MiamiInit.config, etc... e) Launch MiamiInit in your Miami Directory a window should pop up, click on Continue f) Select Ethernet, cable/ADSL modem (Make sure Internet and Dns are checked), and click on continue g) Select your Ethernet card, (in my case it is Ariane II, unit 0), and click on continue h) It will now check the connection, check Rarp (ARP =Ask Request Protocol), it will most likely come up with MiamiInit has found the following subnet mask for your local network. Please check the mask and correct it, if necessary (Mine came up with 255.255.240.0), hit enter.... It will now say Finding DHCP Server again MiamiInit has found..... (mine came up with 144.132.32.1)... hit enter....Verifying DNS server... Please wait.... a screen should now popup asking you for Real Name and User Name, Save Config.. etc... check Save Config... (The most important) and click on continue NOW where nearly ready.... STEP 2. Getting Miami and BPALogin to work together. -------------------------------------------- a) Launch Miami, it will probably ask you to import a configuration file if you have deleted all defaults, select that configuration file, MiamiInit.config... if not select Import from MiamiInit vX (whatever version of MiamiInit you used). b) Before you try and click on Online or try and run Internet Apps, please do the following, Select TCP/IP and make sure the following are checked, Use ICMP, Use DHCP, Verify DNS servers, Auto-add domain and Dynamic. c) Go to Database and check Hosts, make sure the IP Address and Name are both there. Go to Domains and make sure vic.bigpond.net.au (or nsw, qld.. etc whatever your state is). Go to DNS address and make sure all IP's are there, there should be 3 but 1 would be sufficient. d) You can go all through your settings again, if you have imported MiamiInit correctly everything should be ok, but to double check you can go from Interface and check everthing again if you wish. e) now click on Online, this will put miami Online. f) ping DCE-SERVER 13.SYS:> ping dce-server PING mr3.vic-remote.bigpond.net.au (24.192.1.18): 56 data bytes If you get this come up, you now its picking up the Authentication server If this comes up 13.SYS:> ping dce-server ping: unknown host dce-server This means that Auto-add domain is not selected. Control C to quit it. g) BPALogin comes with a config file called BPALogin.conf, edit BPALogin.conf all you need to put in is username (your username) and password (your password) that is all you need to touch. Do not touch anything else. Save and Exit it. h) assign ETC: to a path where BPALogin and BPALogin.conf lives... ie. assign ETC: MIAMI: than make sure BPALogin and BPALogin.conf lives under the MIAMI: path. i) In a shell prompt put the following line 13.SYS:> MIAMI:bpalogin -c bpalogin.conf -D and hit enter, (where MIAMI: is this could be where the assigned BPALogin and BPALogin.conf lives). j) Test to see if your BPALogin BIGPOND advance Cable connection is now working 16.RAM:> ping www.telstra.net.au PING tcruskit.telstra.net (203.50.1.77): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 203.50.1.77: icmp_seq=0 ttl=248 time=28 ms 64 bytes from 203.50.1.77: icmp_seq=1 ttl=248 time=115 ms 64 bytes from 203.50.1.77: icmp_seq=2 ttl=248 time=26 ms --- tcruskit.telstra.net ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 26/56/115 ms k) Test your favorite networking applications IT NOW WORKS...
