Object Editing Shortcuts

Nudging objects

Object(s) must be selected with the Object or Reshape tool to nudge them.

• Nudge left: Left Arrow
• Nudge right: Right Arrow
• Nudge up: Up Arrow
• Nudge down: Down Arrow

Note: hold down a Shift key to move by 10% of the nudge amount.

Moving the contents of a frame

A picture, drawing, EPS object, compound object, or group must be selected with the Reshape tool to shift the contents within its frame.

• Shift left: Control+Left Arrow
• Shift right: Control+Right Arrow
• Shift up: Control+Up Arrow
• Shift down: Control+Down Arrow
• Center contents in frame: Control-C

Note: hold down a Shift key to shift by 10% of the nudge amount.

Scaling the contents of a frame

A picture, drawing, EPS object, compound object, or group must be selected with the Reshape tool to scale the contents within its frame.

• Increase by 5%: Option+Up Arrow
• Increase by 1%: Shift+Option+Up Arrow
• Decrease by 5%: Option+Down Arrow
• Decrease by 1%: Shift+Option+Down Arrow
• Scale to fit in frame: Shift+Ctrl+F

Selecting and deleting points

You can edit the points in a path with the keyboard when at least one point in a path is selected with the Reshape tool.

• Select next point: Option+Up Arrow
• Select previous point: Option+Down Arrow
• Delete selected point: Delete

Nudging points

You can edit the points in a path with the keyboard when at least one point in a path is selected with the Reshape tool.

• Nudge left: Left Arrow
• Nudge right: Right Arrow
• Nudge up: Up Arrow
• Nudge down: Down Arrow

Moving the insertion point

To move the insertion point to the...

• previous character: press the Left Arrow.
• next character: press the Right Arrow.
• previous word: press Option Left Arrow.
• next word: press Option Right Arrow.
• previous line: press the Up Arrow.
• next line: press the Down Arrow.
• previous paragraph: press Option Up Arrow.
• next paragraph: press Option Down Arrow.
• start of the line: press Control Left Arrow.
• end of the line: press Control Right Arrow.
• start of the article: press Control Up Arrow.
• end of the article: press Control Down Arrow.

Text deletion:

• Previous character: Delete (Amiga and Windows: Backspace)
• Next character: Forward Delete (Amiga and Windows: Del)
• Selected text: Delete or Forward Delete (Amiga and Windows: Backspace or Del)

Kerning or tracking:

• Increase by 0.05em: Control+]
• Decrease by 0.05em: Control+[

Leading:

• Increase by 1pt: Control+'
• Decrease by 1pt: Control+;

Breaks and indents:

• Right indent tab: Shift+Tab
• Indent here: Control+/
• New paragraph: Return
• New line: Shift+Return
• Column break: Enter
• Page break: Shift+Enter
