This text file is to let users of ScapeMaker 1.0 know what's been changed. Changes to ScapeMaker 2.0 Several Menu items have been changed and some have been added. 1. Open You can now load both images and scapes. This menu item now has two submenu choices: Image - RightAmiga-O Scape - RightAmiga-L The Scape Loading capability of ScapeMaker2.0 is to let you do true double exposure of scapes with any scape you wish to load in. 2. Scape Type This is simply to show which type of landscape file the program is set to handle as there will be different versions of ScapeMaker for Vista/VistaPro, BigVista, and possibly for Genesis. This version of ScapeMaker creates scapes which work with Vista, Vista1.2, VistaPro, and Scenery Animator. The Vista products are published by Virtual Reality Laboratories and Scenery Animator is published by Natural Graphics. 3. Controls Menu The old Relief mode is now called Extrude and is a simple menu option in the controls menu. The old Incuse mode is now called Carve and is a simple menu option in the controls menu. Extrude - RightAmiga-E (same as old Relief Mode) Carve - RightAmiga-C (same as old Incuse Mode) Color Number Mode and Color Value Mode have new keyboard alternatives: Color Number Mode - RightAmiga-R (for Register number) Color Value Mode - RightAmiga-P (for Palette value) Scale Factor has a new keyboard alternative - RightAmiga-F. Double Expose is now a real double-expose option! You can use it to ADD one scape to another! You can load a scape or grab one, then turn on Double Expose and when you grab again the newly grabbed scape will be added to the existing one! This is a great way to overlay your logo onto a mountainside or a Mandelbrot Set. Double Expose has keyboard alternative - RightAmiga-D. Inset is what the old Double Expose USED to be. It really always was a way to make one scape 'inset' inside another. When you have it turned ON then when you grab a scape and there's already one there (loaded or grabbed previously) the new one will be replace the lower or left portion of the old one. Inset has keyboard alternative - RightAmiga-I. Everything else in the Controls menus is as it was before. 4. Define Area - this is now separate from scape grabbing. This opens a window on the image you've loaded and lets you manipulate the window over the area you want to grab as a scape. You can size it and move it. When you're doing this you get a display in the window: L xxx #pixels from left edge of screen to window's left edge T xxx #pixels from top edge of screen to window's top edge W xxx width of window H xxx height of window V xxxx elevation value of point This display changes automatically several times per second. The value of an elevation point corresponds to a single point where you place the mouse pointer. This lets you obtain a height value of any point on the image screen (including underneath where you've placed the grabber window!). If you move the window or re-size it, the new values will appear in the numerical displays almost immediately. The V value works in both Color Value and Color Register mode and works correctly for HAM pictures, too. When you're done setting up the grabber window, just close it and you'll return to the WorkBench screen. Keyboard Alternative - RightAmiga-A 5. Grab Scape - this is now a separate function from grabber-window positioning. Just activate this to grab a scape from a region you've already defined using Define Area. Don't worry, there's a default so you'll grab something even if you forget to Define Area first. Keyboard Alternative - RightAmiga-G. 6. Smooth Scape - there are 5 smoothing options which have different degrees of smoothing as submenu options: 2 pixels RightAmiga-1 (default) 4 pixels RightAmiga-2 8 pixels RightAmiga-3 16 pixels RightAmiga-4 32 pixels RightAmiga-5 and you have separate control of smoothing in the X and Y directions (default is to have them both ON). X RightAmiga-X Y RightAmiga-Y If you select X or Y from the sub-menu you toggle X or Y on/off. Smoothing by 2 does a little smoothing and smoothing by 32 does a LOT. You can also repeat them to your heart's content. Smoothing does cause the scape to 'shift' position - to the left for X smoothing and downward for Y smoothing. The shift is negligible for most simple 2 or 4 smooths, but you'll notice the result when you do smoothing by 32 multiple times. A little smoothing goes a long way! Smoothing is very beneficial when you're grabbing scapes from video titles or painted pictures of topographic maps - it eliminates 'stairstep' effects and helps make topo maps convert more realistically into landscapes, especially when you only have, say, 16 colors in the topo map.
