C= has finally been sold and the strategists have been busy deciding on a wise marketing plan for the company with a new face. First on the agenda has been the task of establishing just what sort of a face to put on the new business. Media specialists in the successful takeover company have lobbied heavily for a name change from Commodore to Compudore. They point out, quite rightly, that the use of "Compu" as a prefix leaves no doubt in the consumer's mind as to what the product actually is. Also, and perhaps more importantly, the whole demise of C= in the first place has been attributed to the use of the prefix "Commo" which has had negative connotations since the MacCarthy era and certainly was not helped by the events in Tiennamin Square in 1989. Moreover, it is not uncommon to hear issuing forth from the lips of ex-servicemen, the word "Comm" as a general expletive to describe any form of peabrain. Perhaps of greater interest to the public is the actual product that will be first off the line. The good news is that the new machine will be shipping by July and should be on the shop shelves by August. If not then, somewhat later. The new machine has been called the Amigo 50. The aforementioned media specialists have decided that Amigo is a friendlier word than Amiga and further that 50 will describe the new machine quite accurately as it will be exactly one tenth the size of an A500. In keeping with the new company policy of small is beautiful, the new machines will ship with a 3 inch monitor - yes - that's right folks - a 3 inch monitor! However, there is no need to panic. For those of you that like a large workbench, there is an option for scrolling the screen around. This will require, unfortunately, a third party accelerator and will mean that most of your existing software titles won't run. Authors of books have promised to address the issue of how to program the new hardware in the usual fashion by introducing at least 120 undefined terms by Chapter 3.
