   / \/ \ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  / \ Atlanta, GA - December 1992
 / /\ /\ \
(_/ \/ \_)embers of the Atlanta Amiga Users Group (Amiga Atlanta, Inc.)
have embarked on a campaign to "wake up Wall Street" to the relatively
untapped potential of our favorite computer company - Commodore Intl. Ltd. We
hope to do this by encouraging a major move in the stock (symbol:CBU) on
Friday, December 17th, resulting in extensive positive publicity in the
worldwide financial press.

It just so happens the final "triple witching hour" for the year takes place
that day as equity, options and futures contracts on stock indexes expire
concurrently. Triple witching takes place only four times a year - always the
third Friday in March, June, September and December. It is historically a
turbulent day on Wall Street and almost always mentioned on the nightly
network news.

We encourage all interested parties to participate with us by purchasing CBU
stock at the opening bell on December 17th. The procedure for participating
in this activity, which we have dubbed "Commodore Day" is as follows:

1) Establish an account at a brokerage firm if you do not already have one.

2) Call your broker on the afternoon of Thursday, December 16th, after 4 PM.
Tell him that you want to buy 10 shares (or more in multiples of 10) of
CBU "AT THE MARKET" as soon as the market opens Friday morning.

3) Watch the evening newscast December 17th to see if this worldwide campaign
had an impact on Wall Street and gave Commodore the attention it deserves.

If you have any questions or comments concerning "Commodore Day," please do
not hesitate to contact us: Amiga Atlanta, Inc. Post Office Box 49103

 ______ The GoldenGate II Bridgecard
(__ __) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  / / Staten Island, NY - December 1992
 / /
(_/he GoldenGate II bridgecard lets you lets you use AT-compatible IBM
plug-in cards in your Amiga PC slots as Amiga devices, controlled by Amiga
software. Software support currently includes drivers for PC serial and
printer ports, with more exotic cards supported through the software emulator
CrossPC (available with CrossDOS 5.0 from Consultron).

PC Hardware Support

The GoldenGate II bridgecard will support almost all non-DMA PC plug in
boards which are "AT-compatible," i.e. can support 8 MHz bus accesses. This
includes such popular items as internal modems, multi-IO boards, non-DMA
ethernet boards, VGA boards, A/D boards, etc. Access to the PC cards is at
full Amiga Zorro II bus speed unless wait state support is turned on.

The following IBM AT bus signals are supported:

IO address space from hex $0000 to $7FFF (first 32K)
Memory address space from hex $90000 to $FFFFF (448K)
    16 bit data bus
    All AT bus interrupts
Wait states (IOCHRDY signal) for both IO and memory access
14.31818 MHz clock (OSC signal) from on-board crystal oscillator
7.2 MHz processor clock (CLK signal)
    BALE signal

Amiga Hardware Details

The GoldenGate II bridgecard AUTOCONFIGs as a Zorro II card, and it can be
"shut up" off the bus. The autoconfig size is 1 Meg to correctly map all of
the PC memory locations. All address and data lines to the PC bus are
buffered to avoid loading.

On-Board Registers

The GoldenGate II bridgecard includes 3 software accessable registers.

Register 1 is read-only, and reports the status of all the interrupt
lines, the master interrupt enable, and the wait-state control. This is
   a 16 bit register.

Register 2 is read/write; when read, disables the master interrupt
enable and returns the same 16 bit value as register 1. When register
2 is written to, it sets the master interrupt enable.

Register 3 is read/write, and it toggles the support for wait states.
When wait-states are enabled, a default of one wait state (one Amiga
clock cycle) is inserted into each bus read or write to maintain IBM
   bus cycle wait state compatibility.

Software Driver Support

Due to a lack of standards in the IBM community, there is simply no way to
provide Amiga software support for all possible plug-in cards.

A small number of standards DO exist, however, and we will provide drivers
for some of these, with more coming out whenever possible. The basic software
package (compatible with the previous GoldenGate board) is for serial and
parallel ports:

ibmser.device a replacement serial device for internal modems and
multi-IO cards. Includes automatic use of the 16550
FIFO buffer when available. Support for up to 4
serial ports at once, equivalent of COM1-4.

SerPrefs set and save the intial settings of the IBM serial
                     ports.

ShowSerial prints out what serial chip is hooked to each IBM port

ibmprint.device a new parallel output-only driver for printing through
IBM LPT compatible parallel ports on multi-IO cards.
Support for up to 3 printers at once, equivalent of
                     LPT1-3.

IOWedge a wedge program that allows redirection of serial and
parallel port information to the IBM ports even from
programs that do not alternate alternate device drivers.

NewPortHandler this handler lets you use the new IBM ports directly
from the CLI, by creating a mountlist entry. For
example, you can mount IBMPRT: and then issue a
CLI command to copy a file to the IBMPRT: device.

Wait this is a small program to toggle wait state support
                     on and off.

All programs require AmigaDOS 2.0, and were written by Dan Babcock (thanks
Dan!).

Details for accessing IBM IO and memory space through the GoldenGate II will
be in the documentation. Most boards that do not try to emulate system
functions (like ports) will not need device drivers; they can be accessed
directly from your programs in C or any other high level language.

For more exotic applications, the GoldenGate bridgecard is compatible with
the software IBM emulator "CrossPC" sold by Consultron with CrossDOS 5.0.
CrossPC will automatically find the GoldenGate bridgecard if it is installed,
and map any IO location calls to the GoldenGate card. This allows you to use
your IBM driver software directly. Thanks to CrossPC and IBeM author Mark
Tomlinson for this!

Author Chris Hames of PC-Task has also expressed an interest in putting
similar GoldenGate compatibility into his emulator, and this should be
available in the future.

GoldenGate II System Requirements

The GoldenGate II bridgecard occupies one Zorro II slot aligned with an IBM
AT slot in an Amiga 2000, 2500, 3000, or 4000. It has essentially the same
form factor as an XT bridgeboard. You will need at least one additional open
PC-AT slot for your plug-in PC card.

The GoldenGate II requires 1 Meg of autoconfig memory space to be available.

Availability and Price

The GoldenGate II bridgecard is available in two ways:

   (a) As a kit with all parts and assembly instructions, for US$95
(You should have some soldering experience to assemble this)

   (b) Fully assembled for US$115.00.

Shipping charges will be US$3 within the US, US$5 to Canada, and US$10 to
anywhere else.

New Product Announcement...

     _ Lightworks Graphics Synthesizer
    / ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   / / Sebastopol, CA -- December 1992
  / /
 / (_
(____)ightworks Graphics Synthesizer has redefined computer graphics to
include live performance. For the first time, computer graphics can be
composed and performed like music. Just as a music synthesizer manipulates
and controls sound, Lightworks Graphics Synthesizer manipulates and controls
computer graphics. Graphics compositions can be created and performed solely
as visual pieces or they can be used in conjunction with music. Besides the
wipes, fades, and palette manipulations of conventional graphics presentation
software, Lightworks is:

INTERACTIVE. All interaction in a Lightworks performance is instantaneous,
allowing the artist to actually "perform" graphics just as a musician
performs sound. Your visual compositions can be completely interactive,
completely predetermined, or a combination of both.

CONTINUOUS CONTROL. Not only can you control "when" a graphic event occurs,
you have ongoing continuous control over such things as palette color,
palette shifting and cycling, wipe and stripe speeds, etc. during the
performance.

MIDI COMPATIBLE. Any MIDI compatible instrument or sequencer can be used to
control dynamic visual effects. MIDI notes or song pointer can trigger
events. MIDI controllers, key velocity, key pressure, pitchbend, etc. can be
used for continuous control.

STEREO AUDIO INPUT. Stereo audio input, separated into its bass, midrange,
and treble components, can be used to trigger events or used for continuous
control.

MULTIPLE CONTROLLERS. Other controllers include the Amiga mouse, the Amiga
keyboard, eight internal timers and the Lightworks' hardware module which
includes eight sliders and stereo/audio inputs. All controllers can be used
interchangeably, encouraging creative exploration.

ANIMATION. Complex, random access animations can be created interactively and
in real-time allowing the artist to quickly produce sophisticated computer
animations.

VIDEO COMPATIBLE. Since all Amigas are video genlock compatible, Lightworks
Graphics Synthesizer can be combined with video to create unconventional
visual effects from titling to overlays of computer graphics. This further
extends the creative possibilities from simple visual compositions to full
blown visual/audio pieces.

GRAPHICS PRESETS. Lightworks includes graphics performance presets just as a
music synthesiser includes voice presets. The artist can use these presets as
is or use them as a basis to create unique and original visual effects.

POWERFUL PALETTE MANIPUTATION. Lightworks has two color palettes with eight
color ranges which can be blended, shifted, cycled, oscillated, and ramped
independently during a performance. The color effects alone can comprise an
exciting visual composition.

EASY SCRIPT CREATION. All special effects are determined by means of a Script
which consists of simple, English language sentences. Script creation and
Script editing are done via carefully planned menus and prompt messages so
that the artist does not have to learn a script language. This facilitates
rapid refining and testing of scripts so that the artist can "work in the
moment."

Lightworks Graphics Synthesizer was conceived as a means of giving the
computer graphics artist the same degree of creative control of computer
graphics that an acoustic or electronic musician has over music. Musicians
not only have interactive, real-time control of the notes they play, but have
control which goes far beyond that.

For instance, a saxophone player can alter the attack of a note, the timbre,
and how loud it is played, all while the note is being played. A synthesizer
player can adjust key velocity, key pressure, the modulation wheel, and
pitchbend, all while the sound is being played.

With Lightworks Graphics Synthesizer, the graphics artist enjoys a similar
kind of creative control over computer graphics. Besides interactive,
real-time control of graphics presentation (wipes, stripes, fades, etc.), the
artist has continuous control of the form, color, texture, luminance, etc.,
all while the graphic is being displayed. Just as a musician controls the
dynamics of a note, an artist controls the dynamics of a graphic,
interactively and in real-time.

No other program for the Amiga computer offers such complete creative control
over all aspets of computer graphics.

The Lightworks Graphics Synthesizer package includes a program disk, two
graphics presets disks, a GS-100 control box and cable, and an instruction
manual. Retail price is $599.95. To order, or for information, contact
Euphonics at 2685 Burnside Road, Sebastopol, CA 95472 or call 800-892-3325.

(____/AS Institute announces a maintenance release (version 6.1) which
patches the Version 6.0 release of the SAS/C Development System for the
Amiga. Patches are installed via Commodore's Installer, and the original 6.0
disks are required during the installation process.

The patch archive is named SC6_1.LHA and is available for downloading from
the Pro/Am Software Library on GEnie. It contains both text and AmigaGuide
documents describing all patches made. Many pieces of the compiler package
are patched with this release. Though most of the patches are bug fixes (such
as fread() not setting the EOF bit, so that feof() wouldn't work), a few
patches add extra functionality (such as Public Screen support in SCMSG etc.)

This patch is freely-redistributable. Please, pass the file as far and wide
as possible, that all SAS/C owners may benefit from this release.

LucasArts Presents an Original Indy Adventure for Amiga:
____ Indiana Jones(R) and The Fate of Atlantis(tm)
   / _ ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  / ___/ San Rafael, CA -- December 1992
 / /
(_/laying at a sofware store near you: Indiana Jones and the Fate of
Atlantis, an original, thrilling graphic adventure for your Amiga from
LucasArts Games. Starring Indiana Jones and introducing Madame Sophia
Hapgood, Fate of Atlantis is an exciting worldwide race to find the potent
magic of Atlantis -- before the Third Reich unleashes the Lost City's power
for evil.

"Indiana Jones is one of the most engaging characters ever to appear in the
movies," said Hal Barwood, Fate of Atlantis designer and himself a movie
maker. "Lucasfilm has no plans for another Indy film, but we weren't ready to
retire everyone's favorite professor. So, LucasArts Games is sending him on a
new archaeological adventure -- an adventure as engrossing, mystical and
laden with historical significance as his search for the Art of the Covenant
or the Holy Grail."

Fate of Atlantis is the largest and most complex game ever published by
LucasArts Games. It has over 200 rooms, and artists rendered more than 100
pieces of original background art. The game also features vivid 32-color art,
advanced animation techniques and many special-case animated sequences.

Fate of Atlantis animators used video rotoscoping to make character movement
more realistic. Rotoscoping involves videotaping live people in a variety of
activities -- sitting, walking, shifting their weight -- and feeding the tape
through a computer paint program. "The animators literally draw the game's
characters right over the video images," said Barwood. "Rotoscoping allows us
to incorporate nuances into a character's posture and gestures." Indiana
Jones and the Fate of Atlantis also features LucasArts Games' exclusive
iMUSE(tm)(C) interactive music and sound effects system.

The game is designed with three playing paths. Based on choices players make
early in the game, they are led down either a "wits," "fists" or "team" path.
Further enhancing replayability are complex puzzles with alternative
solutions.

Fate of Atlantis reflects enhancements to LucasArts Games' point-and-click
interface. The game has an icon inventory, and the verb selection is
streamlined. "There are so many activities in Indiana Jones and the Fate of
Atlantis, we have seven different interfaces in the game to accomodate them
all, including a German submarine, steering a hot air balloon and operating a
mysterious Atlantean machine."

"The technological enhancements and the brand new adventure are coupled with
everything Indiana Jones fans have grown to love," said Barwood. "We
maintained the integrity of Indy's character, and once again he's pitted
against the Third Reich in a worldwide race to save civilization."

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis emerges from a myth grounded in
historical documentation. Plato contemplated Atlantis and wrote about its
potent source of energy called orichalcum, and early twentieth-century
mystics postulated about the power harnessed by Atlanteans. Fate of Atlantis
takes place during the late 1930s, a time when Germany and the United States
were racing to develop the first atomic bomb. In the context of Fate of
Atlantis, the Nazis believe discovering Atlantis' power source will lead them
to victory in the race and domination over the world.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is available for Amiga models 500,
1000, 2000, 2500 and 3000, with a suggested retail price of $59.95. The game
can be played off of floppies or hard drive (at least 1 megabyte of memory
required), and supports NTSC and PAL monitors. Fate of Atlantis works under
Kickstart versions 1.2, 1.3 and 2.0.
