»CL8:»SML:-------------------------------------- »CL9:»BIG:Pure Journalism? »CL8:»SML:-------------------------------------- »CL4:BY ZEROX/GODS with the inspiration and words of Domain! »CL3:"A progressive mag is a mag which allows more than the norm" - Domain -------------------------------------- »CL0:"We will be back after this commercial break!"; shouts out a desperate main editor. Wouldn't want those hopeless sceners to figure out how to use the exit button, so they could start off loading one of our rival magazines. Better give them some scoop articles, after all that is what they want... The incidents of Zine, RAW and 42 doesn't need any explainng, but how about D.I.S.C ? Yes the Amiga diskmagazine scene surely has got yet another of those scoop magazines which seem so popular nowadays. Some would say that a fairly newly resurrected diskmagazine as D.I.S.C isn't like that at all, but the more experienced reader would soon notice the style of "we caught a virus coder" to be a pure RAW rip-off. Yet I would call them advanced in a way. As when RAW waits for the news to come, D.I.S.C simply makes up some news to write about. »CL1:A new style which surely will revolutionize our dear scene»CL0:. The unpublished words above were written by Domain 6 years ago, commenting the new style of D.I.S.C. Domain obviously noticed that I was inspired by R.A.W. - a magazine which I still consider to be »CL1:the best mag ever»CL0:. All the ideas you've probably seen in mags the latest 7-8 years come from R.A.W. From so simple things like making the news from A-Z, to having scoop articles covering persons and groups more closely than ever done before. Lord Helmet simply converted all the things from real magazines to his scene mag. He introduced the aggresive and ironic article style, and sometimes a lot of sceners felt he crossed the line of dignity. Quite many will probably still remember the Stalin article, the article about Tip & Mantronix etc. In any case, Domain was wrong when he said I invented the "We Caught The Eleni Virus Killer" - article. It was a true story which I actually got by some informers (»CL1:as real mags also have»CL0:). I still remember that it was a scoop to get that article. But some people really gave me a hard time after that. For the first time, »CL1:I actually got some threats»CL0:. But true journalists never back down because of lousy threats... especially when they come from people living far away from us... »CL4:;)»CL0: »PIC:Darklight.+ec_11.iff» Lets continue the story with some more words from Domain! »CL7: "D.I.S.C #10 by Gods: Zerox has along with a lot of fine writers managed to improve this diskmagazine drastically. They have along with this 10 issue brought to life a new style which I find both interesting and enjoyable, yet I do think that they should be a little bit careful with their big exposings; they might come to a point when they are crossing the line of dignity once too often and their popularity might decline as the result of this." »CL0: To »CL1:cross the line»CL0: was just what I wanted to do with D.I.S.C. issue 11. Therefore I wanted to create an incident. I knew that Andromeda never would release a production again already back in 1995, but wanted to create a fictional story about them as they were my favourite group. So I actually wrote an article about them called The Point Of No Return. As you all know, D.I.S.C. got delayed for the next 6 years, so it was never published. So I've been updating it ever since, and finally released a weaker version of it in D.I.S.C. #11 a few days ago. What did I want to achieve with this? Did I finally cross the line of dignity and pure journalism? And what can we sceners expect? What I wanted to achieve was writing something so detailed that some sceners would actually believe it was true. It would have been a lot easier if the article would have been released in 1995 though. It would be an experiment to see if some sceners just followed the »CL1:leader sheep»CL0:, and voted for the newest production without even seeing it. It's a fact that quite many sceners vote for productions they've never ever seen. »CL1:And that's sad»CL0:. Anyway, personally I think I perhaps crossed the line this time. We should always write the truth about other sceners and groups, but of course we can cover the events with critical eyes. But no harm has been done in this case, as the members and group faded away a long time ago... and because only good things were written about them. Andromeda died back in 1995, their last party was The Gathering 95 where they actually participated in the wild compo performing (dancing, jumping around) live in front of the bigscreen to the demo Ninja by Melon. The last production from Andromeda was the fabolous Nexus 7 just to mention it. Nevertheless, at least I hope someone got some entertainment and fun out of reading the article. Quite many articles can be quite aggresive though without crossing the line of dignity after my opinion. We should have the freedom of speech to write about everything and everybody, as long as we stick to the truth. And no one can censor your opinion, as long as it obviously is your opinion and not a fact you're presenting. But if it's a fact, the truth, then be free to write about it. This is actually the case with articles like Mop Quotes & The Party Animal written by me and Lord Helmet for RAW 10, and for the interview with Magic/Nah-Kolor in D.I.S.C. #11 for that matter. But it is actually possible to write too aggresive, but that limit has not been reached by the D.I.S.C. Team yet. To be progressive, is always the goal. »PIC:DaFreak.80x49x4.iff» And with issue 11 I think the sceners experienced something they've never experienced before. As we included pictures of the people we interviewed, and made links to various people and groups everywhere. We even inserted modules in the middle of articles. Next time we should come up with something new... instead of stock-still. Or else... it simply becomes boring and not very innovative! And who wants to get »CL1:THAT»CL0: mag?
