I don't know the answer, but I have a feeling that it would be many, too many. As for myself, I have experienced so many harddrive crashes that I probably could rename my handle from 'Punisher' into '»CL1:Crashman»CL0:' or '»CL1:The HD Toaster»CL0:'! Why does it have to be like this? Is God punishing me? Have some hooligans gone mad inside my computer? It all started in the year of 1995. I had a splendid 120MB 2.5 Harddrive, and I was very happy. I copied lot's of stuff, and started collecting various productions. Everything was pure joy, until the harddrive engine stopped working. I didn't, and still don't, know why this error occurred, but anyway, it made an end to the enjoyment I had felt. So, I bought myself an 80MB harddrive, and this one worked for many months, until I decided to sell it to a good friend of mine, Duckhunter/Spaceballs, as his harddrive broke down (can you believe it?). So, in the beginning of 1996 I had collected enough money to buy a real huge drive, and this was a Western Digital 1.7GB'er. Wow! I was very happy and the sun shined on me every single day. For some months that is. In June 1996, after the Bush Party in Porsgrunn, it formatted itself to NDOS. I don't know why, but it just happened. Over 1GB of stuff, inclusive lot's of letters just disappeared. Couldn't be more »CL2:unfortunate»CL0: than this to be honest. A year of waiting for a new harddrive crash. It came with a sudden bang together with the machine breaking down. I will not tell you about the three Amiga's I've owned during my career, but I can tell you that one of them burned up, the other one just stopped working, and the third had a wasted mouseport, a diskdrive out of order, a fucked up composite entrance, and of course, a keyboard that refused to work. So, back to the harddrives. I experienced a new crash, and ditto lost files. It was horrible. This happened a couple of times. So, in 1998, the autumn I visited Point/Apathy, and guess what? His harddrive engine got busted due to a horrible big PC powersupply. Gee! I had to lend him my harddrive, and I bought a new one, a 6.4GB'er. As soon as I started stuffing this drive with warez, it often became NDOS. Letters and other stuff got lost again. Point/Apathy did also buy himself a new harddrive, but this did also fuck up from time to time. The summer of 1999. »CL2:A big crash»CL0:! Thanks to Strife/Apathy I'm still active, as I was quite fed up with all the »PIC:Darklight.+ec_04.iff» problems at that time. I lost utils, games, and other rarities which I had been collecting. What is strange though, is that I until March 2000, had no major problems with my HD! It was great until what happened the other day. The letters disappeared, lot's of scene stuff went down into nothing. Fortunatly I »CL1:know»CL0: what caused this crash, so it was my fault. But however, things are looking better again. My question is, can anyone beat this amount of harddrive troubles? I know Duckhunter/Spaceballs could be a challenger as he has killed two 2.5 drives (one caught fire at Kindergarden 1996!) and has had problems at every party I've been too, except The Party 1999. So, come on! Tell me about your harddrive problems, so I don't feel like an unlucky shit!
