»CL9:-------------------------------------- »CL8:»BIG: Sick and tired! »CL9:»SML:-------------------------------------- »CL4:by Alvin/Nah-Kolor »CL0:»CL1:Sick and tired», that's what I am! Yeah, I admit, I am. Sick and tired! I'm annoyed and aggrevated and even a bit mad. "About what?" you say. "About you!" I say. Yes, you. You that are reading this article right now. I'm talking about you. I will even tell you why I'm so sick and tired of you... I'm sick and tired of you, because you're lazy. You're doing nothing. You hang around IRC all night long, complaining about lack of releases. Hypocrite! Turn that modem off and do something constructive yourself for once. Shut that mouth and start doing something yourself for once. Draw a picture, compose a module or why not code an intro for the fun of it for once and stop farting around on IRC all the time. No wonder nothing is done. You think the Scene is "slow" these days? Are you sick of party-releases only? Are you fed up with all the scanned pictures in the pixel compo, with the typical "no copy"-slogan attached to it, and all the 3D engines in the demo that in the end just are the same anyway? Yes? Well, don't you think it's about time someone did something? »CL1:"Errr...yeah, I guess. Just not me...I don't feel like it." »CL0:Aaw, come on, give me a break. Here we are, with a Scene that has become more and more focused on money (demos are produced almost exclusively for parties, so go figure) with people like you complaining about the lack of activity and quality, wining about the "good ol' days" when Melon and Lemon rocked the Scene. So, what are you going to to about it? Rock your chair and drag your behind around? »CL1:"Errr...." »CL0:Yeah, I had a feeling. Going to think about it? Well, that is not going to work. A demo is not just going to come out your rear just like all that other nasty stuff does when it's ready. Neither can you pick it out of your nose; your finger might fit but a disk with a picture won't. Stop dreaming! You need to do something! Sick and tired. Our Scene has changed radically the last couple of years. More and more people are complaining about the lack of releases, about the "scanners" whose only talent is Photoshop and the coders that run around in circles with their 3D-engines. »CL0:People complain. They don't like things the way they are. But at the same time, they expect everyone else to do something about it. Sometimes it seems like the paradox of change is that there is a desire to see a change but nobody wants to carry the burden of doing it. "You do it," they say while they take a tour around IRC. Is something backwards or what? »CL1:"So what are you saying?" »CL0:I'm saying what I just said. A big part of the Scene is lazy or does not seem to care. »CL1:I know we all would like to see more demos and productions, more creativity in demos etc. However, have you ever thought about the fact that IRC is not really the most creative place. At least not if you just trash around. »CL0:I am myself a frequent visitor of #amigascne but sometimes I get scared. Many talented people hang around and sure, there is nothing wrong with that. However, if that is all you do, quit it! »PIC:Budgie240x29x128» »CL0<:If you're on IRC hour after hour, day and night, you need to start to reconsider what you are doing. The more time you spend on IRC, the less time you will have to draw, code and compose. The more you chat and chat only, the less time you will have to be creative. Oh, I know there are those that are online and draw or do something else at the same time (I frequently do this). Maybe we need more of this? Maybe it is time to start to use the multitasking you are so proud of. Miami, AmIRC, PPaint at the same time should be no problem, should it? The problem with IRC is obvious and well known. It is addictive. It is easy to get hooked and it is easy to spend hours every day just chatting. It appears that this even affects the Scene, which not is strange at all. An hour spent on IRC is an hour of drawing wasted. An hour spent on IRC is an hour of coding wasted and an hour spent on IRC is an hour of composing wasted. If all would make an effort to spend maybe a little bit less time on IRC and start to be more productive, maybe we then could see an increase in demoproduction in the Scene. »CL8:Conclusion »CL9:-------------------------------------- »CL0:Do you want to see more scenerelated productions release, especially between parties? Let me challenge you to be the first one to produce one then. Show that you are devoted to the Scene. If you are good at drawing pictures, take the time to draw a clip art or two for your favourite magazine. Maybe get together with other members of your group and start planning some interesting release and just release it. It must of course be noted that there are those out there that are very active, those that do more than their share of work when it comes to organizing, drawing and so on. To those of you, keep it up! To the rest, ff you want to see more activity in the Scene, I suggest you begin yourself and begin now. It is on your shoulders, not on others. We all have a responsibility to contribute to the Scene if we want to see things happen. Ask not what the Scene can do for you but rather what you can do for the Scene. Or as the Nike-slogan states: Just do it!
