Short: NewsCoaster Full Version (v1.53) (MUI) Author: Mark Harman (mark.harman@ntlworld.com) Uploader: Mark Harman (mark.harman@ntlworld.com) Type: comm/news Replaces: comm/news/newscoaster_b.lha NewsCoaster is an MUI newsreader, for both online and offline reading. Please send bug reports, enforcer hits, feature suggestions etc to me at mark.harman@ntlworld.com There are two archives: nc_update.lha - this is the 'update' archive - you need to find BetterString, NList, TextEditor and Toolbar yourself. Optionally, NListtree is needed for tree views. Easiest way is to download 'newscoaster.lha'- this will also give you the documentation. newscoaster.lha - the full archive. Download this if you are not upgrading from an older version (or you want the updated documentation). Also, the source code is available in newscoastersrc.lha [ NB - I'm no longer marking releases as 'beta'; this doesn't mean any significant change or that it is necessarily more stable, but I thought it has to come back out of beta sooner or later:) ] NewsCoaster homepage at http://newscoaster.tripod.com/ (contains the documentation in HTML form). Mailing list to hear about announcements of new releases etc at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newscoaster-announce/ My personal homepage at http://mark_harman.tripod.com/ New for version 1.53 (13.7.2) - New option to allow using multiple newsservers for posting; if you've set up a non-default newsserver for a group (under Newsgroups / Advanced Settings), you can tick 'Post with this server', and then any messages posted to that group will be posted to the newsserver for that group. - In threaded view, opening a thread causes the entire thread to expand. - Clicking on column headings to change sorting now works in threaded mode too. - Faster threading. - Download from groups in a more sensible order to avoid repeatedly connecting to a newsserver. - New option to delete all duplicated messages in a group (under Messages / Permanently Delete). - Bug fix; in v1.52, messages wouldn't get deleted from the deleted folder (they'd still be on the hard disk). - Bug fix; bugs in base64 encoding and decoding. - Bug fix; in threaded mode, not all messages were getting displayed. - Bug fix; various other problems related to threaded mode. - Bug fix; 'Groups Manager' under Program Settings was always displaying groups for the default newsserver. - Bug fix; if you switched between two groups on two newsserver in online mode, it would fetch from the wrong newsserver. - Bug fix; was leaving a space at end of lines when quoting messages. New for version 1.52 (8.6.2) - Cope with yenc v1.3 attachments. - Option to always check for duplicates when downloading (some newsservers seem to have duplicate messages in their lists; this option means slower downloading, but guaruntees no duplicates). - Increased width storage of 'subject' (in messages list, etc). - Remove dependance on 'default.index' file. - Bug fix; some uuencoded attachments were no longer getting spotted. - Bug fix; sometimes checking for duplicate messages unnecessarily. New for version 1.51 (17.4.2) - Bodies for messages are downloaded when you select 'Join Messages', if not already downloaded. - Ignore directory information in filename for the default filename when saving an attachment. - Don't put in a sigbreak ('-- ') when the user doesn't have a signature, when writing messages. - Bug fix; crash or message corruption when either writing a message either when the Outgoing folder was displayed, or the message was a followup/reply/edit of a message already in Outgoing! - Bug fix; if editing a message that had a text/plain or text/html attachment, the it wouldn't get put in the Attachments list, and instead you just got the encoded base64 text in the main edit window. New for version 1.50 (16.3.2) - New 'Join Messages' option (under 'Messages' menu) which joins the selected messages together - can be used for multiple-message binaries. - Support for yencoded attachments (see http://www.yenc.org ) (CRC checking isn't done yet, and multipart messages is rather basic atm). - New Killfile options - can choose to match on messages that don't contain the text in a header; can choose to mark as Important instead of deleting the message. - New 'Kill' options to set up a killfile for messages from a particular server (based on the Message-ID), and from the NNTP-Posting-Host. - Newsgroup folders will have their AmigaDOS comment set to what you enter the description field as. - Option to Quit without being asked for confimation. - Icons supplied for the toolbar (in newscoaster_b.lha only - thanks to Jules for the currently supplied set; more will be supplied in future versions, meanwhile visit http://newscoaster.tripod.com/download.html to find some more). - Bug fix; problems when the message 'View' window is viewing messages from a group different to the currently selected one (messages weren't getting marked as Read etc). New for version 1.49: (27.1.2) - Toolbar is now provided with 'Toolbar' MUI class. No graphical icons are currently provided however - please send me some:) (they should be located in the 'icons' folder, under the names "main.toolbar" and "main_G.toolbar" - see toolbar.mcc docs for more details). - Improved performance on 'threaded view'. - Post immediately option finally returns for writing messages. - Bug fix; disposing MUI objects from a hook called with such an object is not a good idea.. (also before some objects weren't getting freed at all). - Bug fix; couldn't abort on moving/copying/undeleting messages. New for version 1.48: (12.12.1) - When downloading a message body (online mode), if the server claims the body is not available, try again using the article number instead of the messageID (this fixes the curious behaviour where NewsCoaster says a message is no longer available, even though you only just downloaded the header). - New option to not display From/Subject of messages when downloading news. - Don't display message about groups being downloaded into a file if checking for new newsgroups, and none are found. - Minor improvements to index reading/writing. - Bug fix; enforcer hit when opening the View Message window. - Bug fix; if messages that you hadn't downloaded bodies for appeared in a search result, and then you fetched the body, clicking to read the message in the search window would result in NewsCoaster fetching the body again. - Bug fix; couldn't cope with messages that didn't have spaces between messageIDs on the References header line. - Bug fix; ARexx command SETFOLDERBYNAME was rereading index when that folder was already being displayed. - Bug fix; adding/deleting or changing the order of newsgroups whilst downloading could cause silly problems like checking one group twice, or not checking a group at all. New for version 1.47: (5.12.1) - Find Text option for the View window (at long last!) - Choose which columns to display for the message list and search window ('Lists' under Program Settings). - Sorting of messages in search window results (click on a column, as with the main messages window). - Search window updates better to reflect changes to displayed messages (eg, if a message is deleted it will be removed, or if moved to another folder you can still display it). - Popup "help bubble" for message list displays info. on the currently selected message. - Popup "help bubble" for group list displays info. on the currently displayed group. - Various minor MIME and message parsing improvements/fixes. - More sensible sorting on statistics list for "By Person" (ignores quotes, etc). - Bug fix; leaving stray ascii '0's in message text when saving/viewing the raw text of the entire message, that weren't in the original message. - Bug fix; downloading body of messages in 'deleted' (or outgoing/sent if you decided to copy them there..) didn't work. - Bug fix; sizes of some attachments in list were one byte too big. - Bug fix; was marking all uuencoded files as "text/plain" - should work out MIMEType from filename extension. - Bug fix; new killfiles entered wouldn't work until NewsCoaster was restarted. - Bug fix; clicking sort messages by size resulted in sorting by number of lines in v1.46. New for version 1.46: (27.11.1) - Groups Manager menu option - displays the groups manager for the default newsserver. - Switch back to storing temporary files on disk, so as to not waste RAM; will make the location an option in future. - New 'Lines' column. - Bug fix; if the user aborts whilst downloading the message body, should not delete the message header!
