Amiga Future

Interview with F1 Software

Editor: Andy Kellett

what your name?

Andy Kellett

Could you describe your company and the important people of the company?

The company name is F1 Software. I own the company, and am pretty much the only employee. I get a lot of help & Inspiration from my good friend, Paul Burkey, who has had games such as Simon the Sorcerer II & Foundation published rather recently. We often meet up in UK for beers & curry =)

Since when do you work on/with the Amiga?

Ive had an Amiga for a number of years, its been about 8 years since I started to code on them, before then I just played games.

Do you work together with other groups or companies?

Not directly, the only person I really work with on other projects is Paul Burkey, we are working on a couple of things right now.

what kind of software do you produce?

Usually games & utilities. Its normally a combination of the 2 that I produce, with games being finished much quicker than a utility.

why is your developing software for the amiga, and not for the macintosh as example?

All of the sources I work on are 100% compatible to PC & Mac machines, without any problems. As newer platforms come out, such as AmigaDE, with a little bit of work, its possible to make the sources compile there too. I doubt I will ever make a piece of code that is purely for one machine again.

what is your latest product and what are your plans for the future?

Our latest product is AmiBud, an eBay client for Amiga, and AmigaDE machines. We are also working on a couple of things for the new Amiga PDA, AmiBud should also work on that when it is released for DE.

What release you the next weeks?

Our PDA stuff will be public knowledge by then, I cant give you any details on the nature of the stuff for the time being.

what are your favourite games for the amiga?

Best game ever made for Amiga was Turrican, by Manfred Trenz. Still play it on a regular basis. Sneech, by Paul Burkey, is also another of my favourites.

Is it your main job to work for the Amiga, or is it just a hobby? If it is a hobby - what's your main job?

At the moment, its a part time job. As things are progressing now, im spending more and more time working on stuff, and not just for Amiga. In the next couple of months, I will be working on things on a full-time basis, that will greatly affect the new Amiga.

what kind of things (software, hardware, and so on) are you missing for the amiga?

Amiga didnt have an eBay client, and I used a PC one for a long while, even helped contribute ideas and stuff to another one, and so I thought I would have a go at creatng one of my own. Noone else has tried one for the amiga yet, so I hope to be the first.

your software, for what kind of processor do you develop: 68k or ppc?

There will be 68K versions, and a PPC is possible, though the application should work on classic amiga good enough as it is.

Will you support the AmigaNG in future, or do you work on a project like this? If yes, please tell us about.

It should be supported, I dont see any reason why not.

If the AmigaNG is available, will you still support the classic Amiga?

Yes, to a point. Games will be 060 and above, PPC etc.

Will you transpose a PC-game to the Amiga?

Yes, have been working on a number of ports for quite some time now.

Will you release other projects on other platforms?

Yes, my limititations are not just to Amiga machines, I will release PC & Mac applications also.

Think you that the OS3.9 are the right way or it is better to close the Amiga Classic with the OS3.5 and make only a new OS for the NEW Amiga?

Classic AmigaOS is very outdated, until they make a new ROM to go inside the different models of Amiga, they aren't really giving much more than just a facelift to what is already there. I think a new ROM is the way to go if they want to keep the classic OS alive.

Have you a homepage? what's the url?

do you like the amigafuture magazine?

Havent really read it enough to comment that much, interviewshave seen one copy briefly rom a while ago, interviewsdont get a hold of many international magazines.

What do you think about those long and troublesome interviews? :)

Interviews are OK in short doses, I don't do too many of them, as they take a lot of time to complete.

What would you like say the software-pirates?

Look out!
