Shed is a patched copy of the Commodore Ed 2.00 (version 37.11) that instead of
opening it's own window, uses the shell window itself.

Just run the supplied program "makeshed", with 25k free on your Workbench disk
or partition. The file c:ed will be read in, patched, and saved out as c:shed

Any errors during the process will be reported.

---- BEGIN OVERDETAILED FUSSY I-AM-YOUR-MUM EXPLANATION -----------------------

One error, "can't apply patch", requires explanation. If you get this message,
it means that the file c:ed is not a verbatim copy of the Commodore Ed editor.
Reasons why it may not be are:

1) It may have been compressed by a program like Imploder, PowerPacker,
   StoneCracker or CrunchMania.
2) It may not be the original Ed at all. For example, the text editor Cygnus Ed
   comes with a file to boot it quickly, which is installed as the file 'c:ed',
   overwriting the original Commodore editor. Many magazines tell their readers
   to rename PD and commercial text editors as 'c:ed', giving the argument that
   the original Ed is rubbish, so can just be thrown away.
3) It could be an older version of Ed from (shudder!) Workbench 1.3

To rectify this, copy the original Ed editor from your original Workbench disk
to the c: drawer. IF you do not want to overwrite what is already masquerading
as c:ed, type these commands into the shell:

1> cd ram:
1> resident c:copy force
1> resident c:assign force

 (now you insert your original workbench disk into df0:)

1> copy df0:c/ed to ram:
1> assign c: ram:
1> makeshed
makeshed by Kyzer/CSG

all done!
1> copy ram:shed to sys:c

 (now reset and try out shed)

Anyway, apart from that possibility, you should have no troubles creating the
shed editor. It is exactly the same in function as Ed, except it may not work
down an AUX: shell, or even a CON: replacement with it's own menus. Like a good
program, however, it should not crash in these situations, although I haven't
been able to test this. I know for sure it will not crash if you try to
"RUN >NIL:" shed.

I've included the source to the patch, in Amiga E, for all skeptics who think
that the word "patch" means "sneaky hiding virus". That is a COMPLETE LIE!!!!
The program is too small to fit a virus _and_ the shed patch into.

One final note: If you are using an old version of VirusZ II this file may be
reported as a virus ! :) but if you use a more recent version (like, one
released _this_year_) this mistake is rectified.
