Arguably the catalyst for the greatest social upheaval since the Industrial Revolution. Or, equally arguably, a big bin full of light bulb jokes and pornography. Either way, if like me you're using AMosaic on a bog standard TV set, it's very difficult to read. Hence, Webcrawler. A set of typefaces that look stylish yet are quite legible on an interlaced TV screen. The Webhead fonts were based on a font I drew around 3 years ago - although the bulk of the work was done on and off between October 1995 and February 1996. I used the Commodore program Fed that was supplied with Workbench 1.3 - because you can't teach an old dog new software. Unfortunately, Fed occasionally made a bodge of saving my hard work (due to incompatibilities between fonts in WB 1.x and those in 2.x), so I used the Typeface program (available on Aminet) to do a final save. __ WHAT YOU GET __ AddToMosaicPrefs - a list of settings to add to Mosaic's prefs file Webcrawler.doc - this doc file fonts/Webhead - six fonts used for headings fonts/Webfixed - one font used for non-proportional text fonts/Webtext - one font used for main body text __ WHAT GOES WHERE __ Installation is easy. Just copy the fonts to your fonts: directory:- copy /fonts all fonts: Now all you need do is configure your web browser. __ AMOSAIC USERS __ 1. Edit your prefs file with either of the following methods:- a) Use either AMprefs or ConfigAMosaic to alter AMosaic's preferences. Both of these programs are available from ftp.omnipresence.com. These are the recommended settings to use:- font webtext/15 h1font webhead/32 boldfont webtext/15/bold h2font webhead/24 italicfont webtext/15/italic h3font webhead/21 plainfont webfixed/15 h4font webhead/17 fixedfont webfixed/15 h5font webhead/15 addressfont webfixed/15 h6font webhead/12 OR... b) Use a text editor to edit envarc:mosaic/prefs, adding the above lines. These lines are also contained in the file "AddToMosaicPrefs", which you can insert into your existing prefs file. 2. Get AMosaic to open on an interlaced screen. Refer to the AMosaic FAQ for more details (at http://www.phone.net/ATCPFAQ/amosaic.html). It might also be worthwhile getting rid of some of the flicker, by using MUI to get rid of the frames around buttons, gadgets etc. (Assuming you've registered it...) __ IBROWSE USERS __ Release 2: I'm afraid you're stuck with Times - why not download the far more impressive Release 3? Release 3: Use the above settings as for AMosaic. However, due to a bug in IBrowse you will need to change the "FixedFont" setting to webtext/15. Oh, hang on - I've just read the IBrowse doc. Apparently it's not a bug, but a deliberate attempt to increase readability! __ TALK TO ME, SOMEBODY __ Comments and suggestions are welcome. Death threats and Star Trek humour are not. You can e-mail me:- andrew.gr@ham.celtic.co.uk __ THE INEVITABLE LEGAL BIT __ The Webcleaner archive is freely distributable, as long as the archive and associated doc files remain intact. Any individuals/companies who wish to distribute the Webcleaner fonts (in whole or in part) as part of their web browser package (or any other type of software) must obtain permission from me first. If, whilst using these fonts, any of the following stuff happens:- a) your computer suddenly decides it doesn't like your taste in software, and starts deleting everything from your hard drive b) your eyes try to escape from their sockets, shouting, "epilepseee!" c) your boy/girlfriend starts singing "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel and doesn't stop, which gives an interesting twist to snogging - its not my fault. They're only bitmap fonts, for heaven's sake. And remember: this offer is not available in any shops. __ ISN'T THIS DOC A BIT LONGWINDED FOR WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY JUST A COLLECTION OF TYPEFACES? __ Yes, it is.
