How to make ETW spoken comments by Gabriele Greco (gabry@promix.it) ................................................................... The speaker comment is made by a bunch of sentences that are chosen looking at the game situation. The first 32 sentences are the names of the teams, actually the spoken comment is available only if playing with the world cup teams, the arcade section will need a completely different set of sentences (maybe we can add it in a next version). The team names have to be in the correct alphabetical order and in the working language (if you are making the german .spk file you have to say Deutchland instead of Germany). It's also important while recording team names to say a whole sentence and not only the team name to give the correct accent to the name. This is valid also for the sentences that needs a team name, for instance to record "loose the ball" it's better to record "England loose the ball" and then cut "loose the ball". It's important to record all the sentences that need the team name with the same voice intonation and accent since all these sentences have to be said with different team names! Be careful also when you cut the samples, the precision of the cut is not very important for normal sentences, it's only important in the end of the team names and at the beginning of the sentences that need team names. The sampling frequence have to be 11025hz, it's better, if possible, to sample them 16bit and then scale them to 8bit. The format of the samples have to be uncompressed IFF. A program I've written (makecomment) will get these samples and mix them with the crown sound (to hide sample quality problems and to gain an audio channel) making only two files (for instance: english.spk, english.sdf). To use makecomment the current directory have to be the directory where the 11khz samples are located and where "fondomix", the crowd effect, is located too. Then (if the samples are english.000, english.001...) a simple: makecomment english should create the files english.spk and english.sdk needed by the game. Please use the locale.library names for the spk files (english, deutsch, italiano...) All the sample have to be saved in progressive order (for instance english.000, english.001, ... english.035,...) following the order of the list in the end of the document. Please note that I'm italian and then maybe that some of the english translations of the sentences are not correct, feel free to correct them and please mail me the correct version (and obviously sample the correct version and not my broken english ones :) ) The sentences are divided in groups, with every group I give a simple description of when these sentences are spoken, I've included also the italian version of the sentences (if someone understand italian these sentences are grammatically correct while, as I've said, are quite sure not correct :) ) Sentences with TEAM (SQUADRA for the italian version) needs to be spoken with the team name before (and cutted WITHOUT it), if your language want the article before the team names (I think english don't want it but italian do) you have to place the article in the team name, not in these sentences. Sentences with a Roman Number (II), (III),... have to be replaced with sentences with the same meaning but with different words. These are used to increase the variety of the comment. 000-031 (team names) Argentina 0 Austria 1 Belgium 2 Brazil 3 Bulgaria 4 Cameroon 5 Chile 6 Colombia 7 Croatia 8 Denmark 9 England 10 France 11 Germany 12 Holland 13 Iran 14 Italy 15 Jamaica 16 Japan 17 Mexico 18 Morocco 19 Nigeria 20 Norway 21 Paraguay 22 Romania 23 Saudi Arabia 24 Scotland 25 South Africa 26 South Korea 27 Spain 28 Tunisia 29 United States 30 Yugoslavia 31 32-33 vediamo l'azione al replay! let's look at the replay! ecco il replay! here is the replay!
