Every house on the map is designated as a specific Type, the Type determines the shape and external measurements of the building ie Type A could be a square house 50ft x 50ft, Type B could be a Rectangular house 100ft by 50 ft and so on, I suggest at least 10 different house Types. (more will probably be needed though) 2. For each Type of house their should exist a number of internal designs showing room layout only. 3. For each type of Layout their will then be a number of detailed descriptions ie were the fire place is and under which floorboard the secret treasure store is etc. 4. Accompanying this set of housing layouts will be a list of possible inhabitants for the house from the farmer who works the fields to the off duty sgt of the guard. From this set of designs then the map dictates which Type of house to use but from thier the GM can then choose/Roll a layout, description and owner for the house from the provided descriptions etc. This will then allow the GM to populate every house in the city if he so desires but at relatively little work. Assuming 10 house Types each with 5 Layouts and each layout with 5 descriptions this gives us hundreds of variations on just a few house designs, and hopefully the GM will never have to worry again when his PC's stop in the middle of a street and say 'whats in that house then ?'. Please let me know what you think of this idea. ------------------------------- ------- >> Paul Owen << ------- firedrake@CIX.compulink.co.uk -------------------------------
