To play a digitized sound file, simply start up this program byclicking on it in the System folder, then drag the sound file intoits window.

Recording options require an audio input cartridge. Falcon audio isnot yet supported. However, the Falcon contains an ST compatiblesound generator which will play the sounds.


OMEn will accept three basic formats of sound files:

õ  d  ,àLÿa) Raw". This is a sound file with no (OMEn-known)information about the format of the sound. Thesefiles will be played in the most recently set mode.Even non-sound files can play and make noises.
   The user can click on the audio manager toaccess it directly (it's also in the System folder)to manually set the digitization output rate forsuch files.

b) OMEn sound header. Files with an OMEn sound headerare shown with a loudspeaker icon in directories,and always play properly.
   It works like this: If the FileDataType of thesound (in the file's header) is SND1 for mono orSND2 for stereo, this indicates the file has an OMEnsound header with the length, digitization rate, andmode (mono/ stereo, 8/16 bits) of the sound toindicate how it is to be played. (SND4 indicatesquadraphonic if available. Currently unimplemented.)

c) The popular Sound`Name.12S" type format where theFileType (= FileExtension) in the file headerindicates the approximate digitization rate of theaudio in kilohertz, and the letter indicates themode, mono (M") or stereo (S").
   A file consisting entirely of eight bit mono orstereo sound samples is implied by the use of thisformat. (A future release may use lower case m" ors" to indicate 16 bit sound.)

* ST" includes Falcon, STE and TT in original ST
  compatibility mode. 7.33 KHz mono is a popular Macintosh
  mode. Macintosh sound files can be transferred to the
  ST and given the appropriate file name & extension.
