Writing a book (or in this case "a several volume electronic book") is no easy task. That is why I'd like to say a few words first. Traditionally, the "acknowledgements" include the people that did the research, and all the "grunt work." Since there is no one like that here, I did all the leg work, the notes and the correspondence myself. So I am limited to only a few people to thank. They will be forever be immortalized in the electronic pages, presented here. (They deserve a lot more). With that in mind, this electronic book would have not been possible if it were not for the following people, that I'd personally like to thank in great detail here. Great detail, because I need padding, and plenty of it, to complete this chapter! HERE THEY ARE Before I go into the thanks due, I must say that it is virtually impossible to thank everyone that ever touched my life, or made a difference. It reminds me of a line from "It's a Wonderful Life" where Clarence the angel is telling Jimmy Stewart's character "each man's life touches so many other lives..." In this fashion literally hundreds of people have touched mine. And I went on to touch hundreds of others lives. With that in mind, please remember that I couldn't possibly have listed each person here. So, instead I have chosen a few "key" people to thank. Let them stand for the masses. Here they are in no particular order: Vanessa R. Davis-Hinkle Not only is this electronic-book (and volume) dedicated to you, but I also figured I should formally thank you here. You always say I've given you so much, beit warmth, love, laughter, a tear or two, a smile, etc. But I seldom ever thank you for all the great things you've given me, and that is YOU! Edward Spies, Jr. My best-friend for over 20 years (or was it 25?) My business partner who taught me absolutely nothing!... Anyway, without whom, I'd never have the courage to write this, or anything else for that matter. I can still remember the both of us sitting in front of the TV at 7:30p.m. Monday nights, in anticipation, waiting for M*A*S*H to come on. ("Walk a mile in my pumps!") It never ends. Edward Spies, Sr. Dad! Lets talk about WWII, okay? Seriously... I'll never forget the talks about love, life, war, poverty, sanity, history, time, relatives, sex, crime, age, etc. at 2 in the morning. I'll never forget all the things you've taught me, and I'll never forget you! William "Woody" Spies Ah, Woody. "The lebanese lad I never had." Jose Torres "What got up your keaster and died?!" Andre and John Paul Pena Groovy, man. Ken Kosman You were right. It is a lot of work! Bill Van Weiren A bus driver I met by pure accident, who became one of my greatest friends. There are so many things I could thank you for (and Bruce isn't one of them!) I'd just like to say thank you for all the times I came on the bus to say hello in the worst possible times in my life, when I felt like I was heading into a black hole of depression, and you made me laugh, when I needed it most. I still remember the first time I did standup, I was terrified and thought to myself "what would Bill do?" and it all came together. Sometimes the best thing you can ever get from someone is a moment like that, I was glad to know you, and share a few. OH! You were right, "Elvis impersonators and beauticians ARE a dime a dozen!" Durango Mendosa The former Boys Club leader (and a firm disciplinarian) that taught me to be all that I could. Dominic Morris My fifth grade teacher that knew good music when her heard it! (He gave me gifts I'm still exploring!) Robert Griefnow My 6th grade teacher that gave me so much, it's nearly impossible to list here. Indeed you opened my mind. He also gave me my first acting break. Buddy Keczwski (Hope I spelled you name right, I always had trouble with it!) But seriously... For being the second (Ed was the first) person to get me involved with computers. I purchased my (second) computer, the Commodore 64, computer from you. I learned so much from the initial investment. I had always wanted to write, and that computer made it possible! Thanks for being a friend!!! (P.S. Long live the Doctor!) Frank David Mitchell From the meetings at 2 a.m. in the weirdest restaurants I've ever seen, to singing "Satisfaction" at 4 a.m. in the streets of Chicago, Ill. you were a blast! I'll never forget the fun, excitement, and near-death experiences we had. "We're always crankin'!" Mike Willis My friend who says "a twisted mind is a terrible thing to waste!" and for providing the laughs when I was board to tears, working in a dead-end job, on the machine we unaffectionately called "the Sleeper." The school bullies, the people who said I couldn't do it!!! Many of you made my life so miserable that I realized that I must be different and kept in my shell until I realized that I was not sharing my gifts with the world. This electronic-book is a product of those gifts. AND MY SPECIAL THANKS TO THESE The Public Library system - Our local library For having the comfortable chair in the back that I spent many-a-hour on, researching this book. And thanks for the microfiche machine, it saves a lot of "browsing." And especially thank you for all the callbacks. Vaudville For giving the world great people to do great things. One of my greatest ambitions as a youngster was to do Vaudville, but unfortunately, it was long since gone by the time I grew up. However, I still firmly believe that if Vaudeville hadn't existed, there would be no reason for TV. If you watch old films and news reels, you will notice a certain "flair" that still survives today. Many comedians acts still resemble the early performers. Even a few TV shows have that Vaudeville feel to them. So you have to ask yourself, "where would we be?" After all, who wants to watch news 24 hours a day?! AETN-TV (PBS) Really there should be an award for excellence in their field. A very special thanks to Robin Douglas who helped me far beyond the normal call of duty. If you happen to live in North-East Arkansas and watch this wonderful station, PLEASE consider a pledge. When you have a station so incredible as this, you must support it to keep it on the air. I am sad to say that they no longer could air Doctor Who, because the syndication costs went "through the roof," to put it mildly, and there was not enough donations for the GREAT Doctor. If you wish to re-instate Doctor Who, tell them! If you pledge, tell them which shows you are pledging for, and mention my name so they will know where you heard about them.
