CMScan: A Program for Sector-by-Sector Scanning of Any Floppy Disk

     Usage:

          CMScan is useful for examining the contents of a disk for text that
          remains on the sectors after a file deletion by DOS (since DOS only
          resets the first character of the file name and resets the File
          Allocation Table entries for the clusters previously used by that
          file, but does not erase the data itself).  Security officers might
          find CMScan useful for confirming the absence of sensitive or
          classified plain-text information on a disk, including data
          inadvertently carried from the DOS I/O buffers into the slack space
          of the last sector of a file.

          CMScan first reads a disk from either floppy drive A or B, as chosen
          by the user, and makes an image of it on hard drive C.  It then
          displays the first three sectors on the screen (track 0, head 0,
          sectors 1-3), and waits for you to page through the disk up or down
          to the next three contiguous sectors (PgUp or PgDn), to the
          next track (Ctrl-PgUp or Ctrl-PgDn), or exit (Esc).

     Running:

          At the DOS system prompt, just type CMSCAN.  You will be shown an
          opening screen that may be cleared with a single keystroke.  CMScan
          then asks you to press the letter, A or B, corresponding to the
          drive you want to scan a disk from, to insert the disk to be scanned
          into the drive, and press Enter.  CMScan will then read the disk,
          first determining and informing you what disk format it is, and
          display the first three sectors.

          Press PgUp to go back to the previous three sectors, PgDn to go
          forward to the next three;  Ctrl-PgUp to go back by one track,
          keeping the same sector and head, Ctrl-PgDn to go forward by one
          track.

          Press Esc to exit.  CMScan will ask you if you want to scan
          another disk.


     Registration:

          CMScan is distributed as Shareware.  It is not "freeware" or
          public domain software, but is made available to you, the user, for
          evaluation under the Shareware principle of "try before buy".
