Welcome to the Personal Inventory 2.12 program!  This program is 
designed primarily for home usage.  It will keep track of all items
in your household and is especially great for insurance purposes.

WHAT IT DOES

PERINV 2.12 keeps track of all household items and provide a means
of tracking depreciation using 4 different methods.  Each item can
be categorized and tracked by room or location. 

This version supports 43 line mode for EGA/VGA screens and the mouse
for systems with a mouse.

Simply enter "INV" or "START" at the DOS prompt to start the system.
You will see the opening screen.  Press the ENTER key to start.
Press F1 at any time to get on-line help.  

To add new items you must go to the INVENTORY MENU.  From the HEADER
PAGE, enter 'a' to add a new item.  The cursor will be placed at the
top of the screen and you will be able to add new items.

To view all of your household items press the F9 key from the
HEADER PAGE.  You will see a browse list of all your items.

To delete an item, simply enter 'd' from the HEADER PAGE under the
INVENTORY MENU.  The item will be permanently deleted.

To change an item simply press the ENTER key from the HEADER PAGE.
The highlight bar can be positioned over any of the fields on the 
screen.

Use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to move from page to page.  You
will get a display of the depreciation schedules (declining, double
declining, straight line and sum-of-years).  Use the UP and DOWN
arrow key to move from item to item.

Make sure to backup the datafiles by answering 'y' to the question
when exiting the system.

REGISTRATION 

This program is being distributed as shareware - meaning that you may 
try before you buy the system.  If you don't have use for the system,
you can simply discard it with no risk.  If you decide that this software
is useful, you must register.  Registration entitles you to an update
disk and phone support.  The price to register this program is only $20.

USER INTERFACE

Press the ESC key at all times to exit what you are doing.  Press
the F1 key for on-line help at all times.  

BACKUPS

Make sure that you make regular backups of your data.  When you quit 
the program you will be asked if you wish to make a backup.  Answer
'y' and the batch file IBACKUP.BAT will be run.  This batch file 
will compress the data files and copy the compressed file 'INV.ZIP'
to drive A.  You may modify the batch file to suit your personal needs.
