Would  you  like  to  make  money  at  home  with  your
computer?   Although fast becoming a crowded field, this may
be one of the ultimate cottage industries.   You  can  start
with  as  little  investment  as  one  computer,  which  you
probably already have if you are reading this file. It is so
easy to do, even kids can do it after school to  earn  extra
money. It sure beats babysitting or delivering newspapers!

     Sometimes  I  refer  to  the  slot  on  the  front of a
computer as the money slot, the place where money comes out!

     This  business  is  extremely  easy  to  start,  simply
assemble a collection  of  shareware  that  you  like,  make
copies,  and  sell them.  It's just that easy!  Well almost.
Here are a few tips: Shareware disks are ten times easier to
sell for $1 than for $2 or $3 each.   Make  sure  that  what
you  are  selling  are  shareware or public domain programs.
You must avoid selling copies of something that  the  author
maintains  full  rights  to. Anything that you may copy will
normally say so specifically somewhere within the disk.   To
get  more  master  disks  for your collection, you can order
interesting titles from your own favorite shareware vendors.
Then, when you get a disk you'd like to copy and sell, write
to the author for permission to do so.  Almost  always,  the
author will gladly give you the permission.  Sometimes, they
even send you a free copy of their latest version.

    There are many ways to sell shareware. You can sell at a
flea market on weekends, you can make a flyer  listing  your
programs  and  paper  the  town with them. You can also send
these flyers to people. You can carry a box of disks  around
in   the   back   of  your  car  and  sell  to  friends  and
acquaintances. You can consign disks to retail stores.   You
can even use shareware disks as a great  trading  medium.  I
have  traded  bunches  of shareware disks for a VGA monitor,
VGA card, laptop computer, and other neat toys.

     On  a  small  part-time  scale, your only cost is blank
disks and labels.  You can  get  a  box  of  labels  at  any
stationery store. Blank disks sell for as little as 19 cents
each.  Look  in  any issue of the big computer magazines and
you will see several mail-order suppliers  of  blank  disks.
For  a  full-time  business  you  have  to  experiment  with
advertising and build a large clientele.  The best way is to
start a small part-time business and let it grow  larger  as
your  experience  grows.   We  recommend  that you play with
several low cost advertisements first and see which  formats
work best for you. Do not place $2000 ads until you know you
have   designed   them  just  right.   Once  you  gain  this
experience, enjoy the profits!
